How do they pick guests to participate in the parades?

Any tips or places to be to get the kids in the parade at Magic Kingdom?

It is not something you can plan or plot. It is pure, unadulterated, Disney magic and pixie dust

We were grand marshals of the Make a Dream Come True parade in January 2003. We entered the Magic Kingdom early in the morning (but not at rope drop!), and were checking out the board where they tell you waiting times and which rides are closed. Got into conversation with a cast member standing there - and after a few minutes, she asked if we'd like to be the grand marshals. It was a wonderful experience, never to be forgotten. And by the way, we were celebrating our 25th Wedding anniversary - we hadn't mentioned it to the cast member (Robin) but that just added to the magic
