How do they know?

How do they REALLY know Neo is the One? He saved Trinity from the helicopter crash, but how does that make him the One?

(BTW-I'm talking about the Matrix)

They assume he is, and they're probably correct. As far as they know, he is the strongest, and most mentally attuned human being ever recorded. Therefore, he must be "The One".

My DH also said that he is being monitored and the guy who is reading all that binary/hex or whatever, is probably able to see that Neo can see things in slow motion and react the way he does. Otherwise what RoqueC said is part of how they apparently knew too.

They just assume. Also, he's not "The One" untill they shoot and kill him. Then he comes back as "The One".
