How do I vote?

I registered to vote when I was 18. I'm 27 now and I have moved since I last voted (2000). I want to vote tomorrow, but I'm in a different town and I don't know where my voter's registration card is. Do I need it, or just my driver's license? Help!

Your state and its rules/laws may differ from mine. You could probably look up the Supervisor of Elections for your county for specifics.


In Florida--I can just show with a DL and if I moved---they would have me (in your case) vote a provisional ballot. (assuming I was in the correct precinct).

ETA: Also--I don't know what the timeframe is--but if we don't vote for x-years or whatever..I think we become unregistered. If that happened...we couldn't vote in the present election if we didn't re-register. Another important reason to look up your laws for your state.

Up here, you have to register by a certain date or you won't be able to vote in this election.

When you moved, did you re-register to vote? When I moved from GA to VA, I registered here when I got my VA driver's license. They told me that the state of GA would be notified that I had moved and reregistered to vote so they could remove my name from the voter list there. Then when I moved from one county to another and had to get a new DL with my new address, my voter registration was changed to the new locality. I don't remember if it was automatic or not, though; at the very least I'm sure I had to fill out a new voter registration card.

Call your local election board in the morning. You may or may not be registered in your current locality to vote, but they should be able to tell if you are.
