How do I throw away a large, sharp knife?

I was cleaning out my kitchen drawers and came across this large cheap butcher knife that I never use. I want to either give it to Goodwill, or throw it out. But either way makes me worry that someone will cut themselves on it. Any suggestions? I would really prefer to just toss it in the trash, it really isn't worth anything...but I am afraid the garbage man might cut himself...

Wrap in heavily in newspaper and tie the paper around it.

You could get two pieces of cardboard that are cut close to the size of the blade and then tape these around the blade. Tape the end of the cardboard to the handle so it doesn't come off.

When I was 8 I was running along the sidewalk and someone had put broken pottery out in their trash. I ran past it and it sliced my leg to the bone. I needed stitches and I still have the scar. It is good of you to think about harming someone. You have to be careful with anything sharp.

I would wrap it well with tissue or newspaper and tape it.

put it inside a large plastic coke bottle, or wrap in paper, either way,, label the container if you cannot see whats in side,,, or,, put iut out in your gardening tools and use it in the yard, i have acheep butcher knife in my gasrden tools that i use to cut root balls, slice open potting soil etc:)

Ouch!! Sorry that had to happen to you, and at such a tender age...

If I had a phobia, knives would be it. I can use one, but can't watch anyone on the screen get stabbed or even chased with one. The thought of ever having to stab someone in my house to defend myself (like in all the scary movies!) creeps me out. So I guess I am very considerate of someone else getting cut by my knife..

Thanks all for the suggestions..maybe I can finally ditch this thing for good!!

First get a metal file and file down the edge to where it is completely dull. Then break the blade and wrap it in a cardboard container. That should take care of the problem.
