How Do I Retract a Bid on Ebay?

My DH, new to ebay, has been bidding on laptops. He didn't really know what he was doing & bid on multiple items. He won 1 a little while ago & is still high bidder on 2 more. One ends in 2 hrs. If he wins that one, we'll just have 2 new laptops. The other doesn't end until late tomorrow. I'd like to retract the bid on it. I know better than to bid that way & have never needed to retract a bid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to look for a site map on ebay and then look under buying and there should be a link to retracting a bid. I haven't done it in a really long time but I'm sure you will be able to find it.

You can't retract within 12 hours..for very obvious reasons, so the one ending in a couple of hours may be yours. If someone was bidding against him, it will go down to the lowest price before he bid. Not really good for the seller, as aonther bidder may not have bid, because your hubby bid so high.
You can ask the seller to remove you as a bidder..but in most instances, I'm sure they won't..or may not even be available to do so. You do have an obligation/contaract to pay if you win as I'm sure you realize. It's important to read the rules of bidding before you start bidding..and I'm sure you ahve clued your hubby into that as well. Perhaps you can resell it on eBay. Remember, the seller will have to pay the listing fees and report you to just get back the end of auction fees. So the seller may lose out in one of several ways if you back out.
To retract the one ending tomorrow..just go to help and put in retract a bid. I think that will bring it up.

You cannot retract the bid during the last 12 hours of the listing, unless the seller agrees.

I would suggest you contact the seller. We sell a lot on Ebay and are typically understanding when things like this happen. Good luck. Worst case you could always sell it on Ebay when you get it.

Just wait till the auction ends and see what happens. Electronics tend to be items that are sniped alot {bidder wait until seconds before the auction ends to bid}. You may end up oiutbid and not even have to deal with an item that you don't want.

Thanks for the info. I just read the rules & being a bonehead doesn't seem to be a legitimate reason to retract a bid. Looks like we may be stuck with 3 more laptops. We already had one, before he decided to bid for another.

I wish everyone read the reasons for retractions, but usually people just say put in wrong price. Then I go see what else they are bidding on, and what do you know? They found a cheaper of the same item LOL.

You sure have a positive attitude about it. I'd be shooting my hubby.

The right thing to do is buy them and re-sell them. As for electronics they do sell best right at the auction's closing so you may luck out and not win them providing he didn't bid too much.

Truthfully, I have almost done this. I am an ebay novice. I have bought 4 total things on ebay in the last 3 years. Every year, I look for the Hallmark Lionel Ornaments for DH for Christmas. I was considering bidding on a couple of auctions to increase my chance of winning - so I thought. Thank goodness the lightbulb went on in my brain and I realized that I could end up WINNING more than one auction. Of course we are only talking about $35-40 in my case.

It is a mistake. A stupid one, true. But it is one that is easy to make.

Another thing newbies may not know, is they could be outbid, and suddenly be the winner again. If the high bidder retracts, or gets suspended on eBay, their bid goes away. So if the auction isn't over..don't go bidding on the same thing quite yet.

I didn't mean to sound harsh, just surprised to think he may not expect to win if he bid. I was so nervous the first few times I bid on Ebay I only bid on low price items in very low increments.

I can see how this could work, but it doesn't seem fair. I know if I want something and I need it quick, I might not wait until the one I was outbid on was over. I didn't realize that I could end up with 2 that way. I'll have to keep that in mind. And I'm not a newbie either!
