Help Disers! I bought new jeans over the weekend and tried them on in the store which is quite a ways from my home. I cvame home and threw away the receipt and bag because I knew they fit.
The next morning I emptied the frig. leftovers in the trash and took out the trash.
Later that day I went to hang up the jeans and saw the ink tag on the jeans. As I said, it's a long way back to the store and I'm kind of afraid to take them back without a receipt as I'm afraid they might think I stole them.
Anyone know how to remove this thing? Is it magnetic?

It's either glued in or sewed in. Just remove it.

I just bought a Gap sweater that had one sewn in the seam. It was for the customer to remove, not the store.

Just take it out.

If the tag does have ink in it, DO NOT try to remove it because the ink will splatter everywhere. Not all of those tags really have ink in them, but you may not want to take a chance.

You can place the jeans in the freezer and the ink will thicken and/or freeze. After a few hours, you can remove them and cut the bolt that holds them onto the jeans. Be careful, though, because it's easy to accidentally cut the fabric, and the store definitely will not take the jeans back.

Other than taking them back to the store, this is the only way I know of that you can remove the sensor tag.

DO NOT try to remove the tag without the special tool. The chances are about 95% that you will fail and ruin the jeans. Take them back to the store, walk in with them in a grocery store bag and find the first sales person you can to explain the problem.

If they refuse to remove the tag, buy another pair of the same jeans and then use that receipt to return the tagged pair. Or wait until you get your cc statement and ask for a copy of the reciept for that charge and then use that to get them to take the tag off.

It's so annoying when they do that! Two years ago I had a shirt I wanted to wear on NYE, and went to put it on and noticed the tag. Grrr...

I'd feel strange too, but go ahead and take them back. They should take it off without a problem.

I would call the store first and explain the problem and make sure they will deal with it appropriately before you go in and risk being arrested for having the jeans and no reciept. See if they will take your name so they are expecting you.

Call the store and get the OK from a sales person (write thier name down). Then take the jeans back to the store in a bag, and ask for sales person by name.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll try calling the store first and go from there.
I knew my DIS friends would have answers.

I would take them back.

But we did do someshopping at the outlets about 3 hours away once and came home with a Ink tag on one of DD white sweaters.

I used a Dremmel and cut the back of it off without damaging it aat all. i use the dremmel all the time so I knew where and what to cut.

After that I put it in a towle and pulled at the left over stem and darkblue ink came out around all the edges with just a small tug on it.

Did you use a credit card when you bought the jeans? The store should be able to look up your purchase that way. I wouldn't try removing the tag myself.

Ask to speak with a manager instead of just one of the cashiers. It'll speed things up.

LOL, duh moment for me. :) They could if they have her jeans still in stock. Without the tag or any numbers we can't look it up.

But, if you did charge it, you can call the charge company and ask for them to send you a copy of the receipt. If you know the exact date and time it'll be easier for them.

Generally, people in retail know the scams and the people that run them. If you come in with one pair of jeans and explain, I'm sure they will take it off. Shoplifters aren't interested in one pair of jeans....if you were a repeat "offender" then that might change things.

Update!
I called the store and explained the situation. They said bring the jeans on in and they'd gladly remove the ink tag. So that's the plan. Thanks so much everyone.
