How do I order food at the Pepper Market?

I've heard that if you are not going to be sitting down restaurant style, you have to cut people in line. Is this true? Do they have seating elsewhere? Im used to just ordering my food and sitting down at a nearby table. What are my options here? I don't want to pay a gratuity just to have a cheeseburger brought to my table. :confused3

They don't bring the cheeseburger to your table. All they do is seat you, give you silverware and fill your drinks. You go up in the line and carry the food back to your table.

If you don't want to pay the gratuity you need to eat outside or in your room.

If its pretty, you could take it outside by the lake.

You bring your ticket to a station(there are several), and choose what you want. Then, it's stamped and you're given your food which is delicious. You don't cut in front of people. Everyone waits their turn, and then then order is taken.
Some people freak out about the Pepper Market-why, I don't know. It's like a cafeteria except that you go to different stations instead of going down 1 line. I don't mind the 10% gratuity, after all the servers do bring your flatware and drink + refills.

Wow, so if its raining or cold outside, you have to walk your food back to your room or pay a gratuity? Thats horrible.

Well, I will never stay at the CSR again cause of this. I didn't like the Pepper Market. First, they seat you. Then you get up and stand in a line to get the type of food you want. Theres a few different sections. We waited like 20 minutes til someone helped us. Then everytime you get something you had to show them your paper so they stamp it. I got pasta, soup, and a drink for 22 bucks! Oh, and the food wasn't good at all.

Does anyone know if there is usually seating outside available or is it generally packed due to people not wanting to be seated and pay gratuity?

If you're going to stay at CSR on your trip(according to your signature), wait until you get there to make up your mind. It really isn't bad and we loved the food.
Don't let us make up your mind ahead of time, you need to judge for yourself.
Every resort and it's restaurant has been bashed or praised to the heavens because everyone has their own tastes and ideas.

DH and I were not a fan of the Pepper Market....food was pretty expensive, not real great and lines were always entirely too long. Also, we waited a very long time for anyone to ever even say anything to us, let alone let us know how things worked!

Seems like the Pepper Market is one of the negatives about CSR. Though it does seem to be one of everyone's favorites when it comes to the room itself, decor, pool, playground, and other amenities.

We usually eat at the parks with the exception of breakfast. So I guess we'll just bring the food back to our room. I'm sorry, but for someone to bring me silverware and refills to pay a 10% gratuity is just a waste of money IMO. I could see if they actually brought you your FOOD. Like they do at places like Panera Bread, San Francisco Oven, etc. And those places do not charge ANY gratuity. You get your own drinks. Which I like anyhow, that way you don't have to wait for a refill when you want one.

For a food court the PM is pretty good. Not great by any standards. But certainly better than a typical food court.
If you want to work around the gratuity, just get your food to go and don't sit down.
Sometimes we go in there just to grab something for breakfast for the next morning. The desserts and pastries are very good.
Even if there is a line to be seated, we have never waited for more than a few minutes to get a ticket and walk to a counter.
There is a coffee type bar to the right as soon as you enter. Sometimes they even have blank tickets on the counter for walk ups grabbing food to go.
We have eaten there several times. There has been a few times where service was slow at a station. But overall they are pretty efficient.
Getting drinks at the tables is usually is what is slow to nearly non existant. And standing in line to pay can be a long ordeal if your timing is off.
The gratuity is for the drink service, regular flatware (metal as opposed to kid size plastic ware), cloth napkins, etc.

You think thats bad? starting in 2008 you have to pay an 18% gratuity on EVERY meal and beverages you buy at Disney.

Well we don't eat at restaurants, just counter service on our trips, so I won't be affected by the gratuity increase. Im hoping the Pepper Market isn't going to be an issue with me on this trip.

You won't find a better QS spot than the Pepper Market. Huge portions, great choices and tasty food. Lunch/Dinner Menu If you want your food to go, make sure you ask the host for a "TO GO" ticket. If there is a line, just walk to the front to get your to go ticket, you do not have to wait in the line.

how to order food?

pick something and pay 10% more then you would anywhere else ;)

I love the Pepper Market, and found the food there to be much better than at the food courts of POFQ and POR. We usually got breakfast to go (or I should say I got it to go, the DH loves to sleep in!), so no worries about the service charge, but even when we did eat there, it wasn't a problem. Yum, I love the quesadilla, I can't wait to have one in January!

I agree! The Pepper Market is one of the best places to eat at WDW. The 10% isn't an issue for me at all. :goodvibes But there isn't a place at WDW that will please everyone. ;)

I so agree. I have stayed at the Poly, AKL, WL, POR, POFQ and CR and really disliked the cookie cutter meals at their food courts...CSR's has a much larger menu and I love not having to jockey for a place to sit at the Pepper Market like I had to at the other resorts, but as others have said, each to their own...and their own is the best for them. Try it, if you don't like it...don't go again. Have a great trip!

Oh. So, I'm curious - how do you determine what's a fair tip at a buffet?

If, and ONLY if, you are using the Disney Dining Experience discount... but here's http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1633420 an entire, rapidly-growing thread devoted to that topic
