How do I get DH into Disney?

My 3 kids (and ok, me, too!) are all obsessed with Disney (no surprise for those on this board...LOL).

But DH is a different story. He LIKES Disney, but just isn't that into it. His idea of "just right" is about one trip every 3 years. Yikes! Not enough for the rest of us.

How do we get him to be as excited about Disney as the rest of us?

I would like for us to buy into DVC so we can go more often and stay more comfortably (I'm fairly well-versed in the economics of DVC, so I'm not stating that it is a true money-saver), but since he is not a Disney fanatic, he is not crazy about the idea.

Any ideas as to how to spread some Pixie Dust to him?

What about booking a fishing trip for him? GOlf outing? Something for him. What does he not love about WDW? Once you know that, you can figure out how to "sell" him on the idea. DH is getting more into Disney but not nearly at my level--I booked him a fishing trip for one day when he will go out and spend 2 hours doing his favorite thing in the world! Good luck!

My DH is the same. He is happy to have a vacation but certainly is not on the disboards every day. I think the difference for us is that I have been going literally since birth. He only went for the first time in life at about age 30. I get goosebumps thinking about our previous and upcoming trip with our DD 2 - just thinking about my life history with the parks, family, etc. He just doesn't have that connection. But, once we get there and he sees his daughter in action, he's hooked. Once we get back, he spends weeks telling people how great it is. If he could only keep that spirit through to the next trip. Oh well.

My DH is a foodaholic....so I make little 3 X 5 cards for each day with the restaurants we are going to and the time. This keeps him very happy!

Ok, I'm getting a few ideas...and he does love to see how into the kids are, so that helps once we are there...like you said though, it's keep the magic in him all year, not just when go to the parks.

I feel your pain, my DH is the same way. One way I get my DH to keep going is we schedule other things to do besides Disney during our trip. This past trip we were on last week, we went to Anna Maria Island for four days and then Disney for four days. It helped that he had something else to look forward to than just the parks again. We also stay at a different resort each time (or at least split our stay) and try to eat at different places. I also plan other things besides the parks every day. We have been to Ripley's Believe it or Not, Wonderworks, and Skyventures. Unfortunately we will not be back until 2007, but I did convince him to do another Disney Cruise next fall. At least I still get my Disney fix next year.

Someday I'd like to get the demographics of the disboards and find out how many men and how many women are on here. Hard to tell if there are more female Disney fanatics or if it is about even.

Going to the water parks helps, as DH LOVES any water park.

I finally convinced him to do our first Disney cruise next year, so that is HUGE. I really think he will love it...perfect blend of family time and adult time; relaxation and activity.

I know that Disney says it is about the same price for a family vacation at WDW and a cruise, but I am finding that a cruise is MUCH more expensive. I have learned how to get great deals at WDW, but DCL doesn't seem to have many "great" deals, other than traveling during off-peak (which we do anyway).

So, that may be the ticket...do 4 days in the parks and then a 4 day cruise (but selfish me...I want a week in WDW and a 7-day cruise later in the year!)

I'll just have to get the kids on him...

3DisneyKids, Dreams Unlimited has many discounted cruises for next year. Try looking to see if that helps with the price. I am saving about $1000.00 going with Dreams Unlimited instead of booking directly with DCL. I haven't used them before, but many people on the boards have. Make sure you go over to the Cruiseline board, you will get lots of information on how to make the most of your cruise.

My DH wasn't excited to go last Christmas, so we surprised him with a Segway tour at Epcot! He really enjoyed it!

There was a poll posted recently and an overwhelming percentage of those who took the time to answer (a lot did answer)---by a overwhelming margin--caucasian female was the majority of disers.

I'm afraid there are just Disney Lovers, there are Disney Haters and there are Disney Ambivalents. My father is one of the latter cases. My father in-law used to be, but then my mother in-law took the kids without him, regaled him with all the wonderful stories of what happened without him, and he couldn't wait to go the next time. He is now a Disney Lover.

If you have children, the conversion is much easier. What father can't swoon when his previously unaffectionate, too-cool daughter clings to him and screams while riding Tower of Terror or Rockin Roller Coaster? What father can't appreciate the wonder and complete awe of his young children when they first see Cinderella's Castle or meet Mickey Mouse? What husband can't appreciate the tears in his wife's eyes as she gazes on Wishes?

There is so much magic at Disney. Seek it out. If your Disney Nonbeliever isn't moved initially, perhaps he will be after witnessing how much you and your children are affected.

If not...go without him!

Agree with posters saying your either into it or not. DW has banned me to talk about upcoming trip until a week before. We leave on the 27th next month. She never went as a child and likes it ok but I'll be lucky to bring up Disney as a vacation for the next couple years. That ok though there are other cool places to visit.

My husband is a Disney-enabler.

He nods his head and smiles (weakly) when we're walking around town and I say, "Hey, there's a hidden Mickey in that trash can!"

He sits in the same room when I watch the WDW planning DVD for the 100th time.

He lets me cut in on his computer time to come to these boards.

He looked the other way when I bought DVC points. (Well, he signed some paperwork, too.)

He packs his own suitcase when I shove it at him as we're leaving for the airport to fly to MCO.

He has even allowed me to raise the children in the Disney faith.

Yet the guy will never say, "Honey, lets go to Disney World!"

That is probably never going to happen but he does like my enthusiam for Disney and he loves to see the kids in action as we plan and take our trips. He's just never going to do more than be a laid back travel partner. I think I'll keep him and keep coming to these boards to talk to people who KNOW what I mean.

I was worried that it was something you are "born" with LOL. Maybe there is hope for him...time will tell.

I *think* we are going down in February...if the kids have an amazing time, I am hoping that will push him over the edge.
