Let me say I am very bad when it comes to math. I am just so darn confused about this. We are going Sept. 19th to the 28th. We are going to use the dining plan no matter what (makes more sense for us lots of character meals plus the baby under 3 eats a LOT). We will have 2 adults and 2 kids on the dining plan. I have used a 40% off code, we are staying at a moderate (POR). The way I have it figured IF the free dining gets announced (I am a disney visa card holder) it would be cheaper and would save us at least 150 to do free dining rather than the 40% off. Am I doing this wrong? Just add up the cost of the adults and kids on the plan and then then compare to the 40% off discount? Will I be able to call and have them compare without changing anything to see what is cheaper?

Your room discount per night would be $60(40% off $149).

Your free dining would be worth $96 ($38 X 2adult, $10 X 2 children).

Wait, you said $150 for the dining plan? Are your children 10 and up? Then yes, it would be worth $152 a day. Definitely a no brainer. :)

Go on to the disneyworld.com website.

Using the same dates and ticket type, use the booking engine. Leave it as a Magic Your Way package. This would be your total if the free dining is released and you can get it.

If it's cheaper than what you've got now, then change to the free dining.

If it's not, you've got the best deal you're going to get.

I think you're probably going to make out better with the 40% off rate.

When I figured this out for myself, DH, and DS3, free dining comes out to be a better deal at the value and moderate level. I'm assuming with an additional family member, you would have an even greater savings with free dining. I can PM you exact numbers if you'd like. :thumbsup2

Remember that free dining this year (if they have it) will not be totally free. You have to pay for appetizers and tip so you need to estimate what that might come to and subtract it from your savings as well as any meals you might have to pay for if you use up 2 table services on a character meal or sign. rest. Oneyear we did the 40% off room and the next we did the free dining.

For my family, it's almost a toss up.

We're hoping AGAINST free dining for our mid-August dates. It won't save us much money and will bring more people into the parks.

We are going August 9-19, and also have the 40% room code. We currently have the dining plan, and since we are a family of 6 we have two rooms booked at ASM. If they offer free dining, we are thinking about changing our reservations to accomodate the free dining. We would lose our 40% room discount, but we would still save about $500 by not paying for the dining plan. I realize that the crowds will increase with free dining, but it will also be crowded during our travel in August so I think we would be able to live with it. ;)

Lets see where do we start. It is simple Disney is putting head in the beds with the "up to 40%" discount. The "Free Dining" if it is done this year, is another way to put heads in the beds for full rate. If you use a AAA agent to book your room as a menber you get good rates even with the free dining. The marketing team at Disney are pretty smart people ad see the lulls in occupancy and fill the rooms with the discount and dining savings. Remeber Disney is not losing anything in this quest to put heads in the beds. When callng Disney they will check for your discount and will do this at no charge. That is their jobs at Disney Reservation Center. However do not just ask if there are any "discounts availble" that is against company policy to offer those. Make sure you know the discount codes and the cast members will look and apply as applicable to you reservations. GOOD LUCK.
