Okay, quick background. We have neighboors we don't like- enough said right?? No, really. We have neighboors that we don't associate with at all. We did call the dog warden on them in 2002 and essentially they've never-ever let it go. The call was warranted, they would leave their dog tied outside in the middle of winter for 12 hours straight a day. It would bark, howl, and whine 11 of those 12 hours. It was within 15 feet of my dining room windows and we listended to it day in and day out. Poor thing was on a 4ft chain a best and had no food or water. I actually called and asked them nicely to do something, they did nothing, after about a month I called the dog warden. Bad move, the dog warden was their friend and did nothing. Ever since then, they don't "like" us. No love lost, because we were never friendly anyhow.
Now tonight around 11pm (ish) I was taking my dogs (which are never tied outside) out for their last potty break of the night. Out of no where the husband and wife come storming out of their house. I thought something must be wrong over there. They came to the property line and asked me why I was harrassing their daughter. I was honestly floored. They have 3 kids (2 dd 1 ds). I've NEVER spoke to the one daughter- EVER. The eldest dd I spoke to for the last time probably in 2003 when I told her I like her dress (because she had said hi or something to me), and the son I don't know. I spoke to him over the summer. Never anything out of line. He would ride bikes w/ my son sometimes.
Anyway, I did NOT speak to their daughter today or anytime in the last 1-2 years!!!! I didn't speak anything about their daughter or any of them. So, I don't know where this is coming from. They were really irrate saying I knew what they were talking about (which I didn't and still don't). I seen their dd outside for about 15 seconds today. I glanced up because she slammed a door which startled me. I didn't say hi, I didn't nod, I didn't even smile at her. I glanced to see what the noise was, and went back to sweeping the porch. She did say hi to my son, who in turn said hey. I believe she immediately went back indoors then. Not one single other word was exchanged.
So, here we are outside at 11pm and they are both talking very angrily about me starting stuff w/ them again (umm-- hello you shouldn't own a dog and it was in 2002). I honestly don't know what they are talking about. I really don't know how to handle this. I don't ever acknowledge them or their kids. I don't say hi, I don't wave, I don't acknowledge that they are even alive. Mostly because we have a strained relationship anyhow.
I would just love to know where this is coming from. I really assumed they were misunderstanding their daughter. They went in their house after about 90 seconds. Then they cam storming back out saying they double checked and I did indeed harrass their daughter about her "card" and their dogs. I don't know what card they are talking about and I didn't say anything even about their dogs she could of overheard.
Where do I go w/ this??? I'm not good w/ confrontation. I really hate taking the dogs out late at night to begin w/ but this really rattled me. DH is out of town every Mon-Thur for work. So, I don't even have him to fall back on. Do I say something else if I see them. I don't think I'd have the nerve, but I'd love to ask the kid when she's outside w/ her parents what I supposedly said (she's 12 or 13 if that matters). I just don't know where this is coming from. We've actually existed next to each other pretty peacefully for the last 9-10 months. There were some problems last winter w/ them pushing all their snow into our newly shoveled driveway and filling it in.

Maybe the daughter was just trying to start trouble... and it will die down on it's own.
