How do I convince family to try HH?

We've been to Vero Beach the past two August's and we love it, but I would like to try HH this year because I think we should try something different. DH says let's do VB again . . . the kids love it and so do we. It's a known quantity." He says we'll do HH next year. I said, "How do we know they won't like HH better? Why wait? We can always go back to VB next year." Kids say, "VB!!! We love it!" BTW, DD is 12 and DS is 9.

So, I know this subject in some form or another appears hear with some regularlity, but when I posed this question to DH for about the 4th time, he said, "Why don't you post on the DIS and see what they have to say?" So, here I am and what have you got to say?

Like I said - I am not the expert but we are going to HH this Sunday. We have been to Florida quite afew times with my daughter, we have yet to take my son.... Hubby and I went just for a short weekend to HH years ago...
From what I can remember (and I was childless then) --it is a really nice resort... I think you guys would enjoy it... since your husband and kids are so set on vero though, I think they might be slightly disappointed that the disney resort in HH is not directly on the beach... I didn't find that to be a big deal and you will see that others don't either... There are so many restaurants to choose from... It really is beautiful....I say go for it and try it out.... Like you said in your post - Vero will be there next year.

Does your family drive from PA? If so, you could try just a night or two at HH along the way and test it out. We have friends that love VB and HH equally, so there must be something to be said for both of them.

It may be a moot point. HH is so very difficult to get into in the summer that if you don't have a reservation yet, you may not be able to get one. HH next year may be your best option at this point.

I have not yet been to the Resort in Hilton Head but I have family that lives there and I have visited the Island. Let me say that it is just beautiful. If your DH likes golf he will have a wonderful time. Even if he doesn't golf there are so many things to do that he will not be a bit bored. The beach is so great and the land on Hilton Head is so pretty.
We always go to Disney instead of VB or HH because we are a family who likes to be busy at all times and don't relax much but I am sure it will catch up with us in due time. If you like to relax and take it easy I would absolutley try it.

During a fabulous VB vacation about 6 years ago, we sat through the DVC sales presenataion and were this close to signing on, but waited. We just loved VB and pictured ourselves spending many summers there.

The next summer we went to HH and signed on the second day of our visit.

We are making our first visit back to VB this summer and while we look forward to it, we can't imagine not spending summer vacation on HHI.

They are quite different resorts. Each has great positives and very few negatives. You really can't go wrong with either. I tell my friends both should be seen and enjoyed and are guaranteed to be memorable.

Final note, we drive from PA with two kids about the same ages.

Go for it. You've nothing to lose.

DH and I tried HH for a long weekend back in February 2001 and we loved it! In fact, it was our first DVC stay, even though our home resort is BWV. Now, I am a die-hard Disney nut and tend to only want to vacation at WDW, but I would go back to HH in a heartbeat, even during the quiet off-season and definately for a longer stay. The grounds are beautiful, with little touches like hammocks and shuffleboard scattered around the resort. We were right near the salt marshes and loved the atmosphere. Each morning I would sit out on the deck with a cup of tea and watch the sun rise over the marsh-- very peaceful). The beach house across the street was very cool; DH and I rented bikes and took a wonderful ride down the beach.

The resort was very near island spots like the lighthouse and outlet shopping. There isn't a sit-down restaurant on the property, but there are tons of good eats right around the property, from the chain Outback Steakhouse, to more quaint and charming local places (we absolutley loved an Italian restaurant we tried-- can't remember the name, but oddly enough it was in a strip mall not too far away).

I think you may find it a pleasant alternative to Vero for a change of pace
