We leave in a little over a week.
I know I read that we need to collect pennies (preferable prior to 1982, right?) and clean them to press.
Are there other types of coins to press?
It costs .50, correct?
How many machines are there?
INFO Please!!!
Thanks so much!

You don't have to clean your pennies but if you do a little copper polish or toothpaste will work.
Yes $.50 for the pennies I think $1.00 FOR THE NICKEL(not 100% sure on this) and quarter presses
They are evrywhere in the stores after the rides at the resorts You don't have enough pennies or time to collect them all. Most a 3 different per machine as well.
You can also get a wallet/book to display them in.

Good luck and have fun

Soak them in ketchup for about an hour or so, then rinse. Works like a charm. Maggie

I'll have to try the ketchup thing. That sounds like fun.

We've got a collection going I started on a previous trip. This last trip I still had an entire roll of quarters left over from laundry so I brought my change tin and pressed away.
And why 1982 or before pennies??

BTW, contemporary has the most press machines. They're by the escolaters for the monorail. But you'll see them at every turn. I managed to get a pressed coin book at the character premier for a 1$ I think they sell for like 5$ in the parks. I think I'll be needing to go get another one real soon though.

I tried to clean my pennies before our last trip, but gave up. Nothing worked. Not vinegar and salt, ketchup, or toothpaste. They're going to be smooshed anyway.

Well, vinegar and salt won't work, because it is the salt in people's sweat that makes the pennies corrode in the first place. Plain vinegar works just great. Probably the reason the ketchup works is because of the acid. We just did a bit of an experiment around here last week trying all kinds of different substances to clean pennies. Vinegar was the most effective.

But why prior to 1982?

The pennies made after that have more zinc in them. When the pennies are pressed, you get this odd silver smear instead of a uniform copper color. Some people like it, but I prefer the copper color all the way through. Maggie

The cost is 51 cents for the pennies and I believe $1.00 for the quarter machines. It may be $1.25 can't remember. We have a few smashed quarters but it's been a while.

A CM recommended we use bicarbonate of soda to clean them. If you ask in any shop they will give you clean, shiny pennies in your change.

I haven't tried it, but I've read on this site that hot sauce works, too. Also, another tip I got from this board, buy an M&M container, it's cylinder-shaped and contains the mini M&Ms. Quarters fit in there perfectly and you can stack two quarters, penny, two quarters, etc to make it easier than searching through a coin purse. If you can't get your pennies shiny, maybe you can ask at your bank for new ones?

We just got back. My DD did the smooshed pennies.

We tried cleaned our pennies before takeing them with copper polish and discarded the ones that were beat up and uncleanable. The polish worked marvelously and they were beautiful when finished. Just for the heck of it, we did try one uncleaned penny and one that was cleaned by badly beat up. They did smoosh but the uncleaned one looks mottled and the beat up one didn't take the image very good. I really do recommend you cleaning your pennies before taking them - it does make a huge difference.

As for the pennies in the M&M tubes - this was PERFECT. Be advised though, if you fly, those tubes will delay your security check.

The pre 1982 coins worked much better, no silver streak thru them. I saw 2 different kids throw theirs down becuase of the silver streak. I gave them some of our pennies to use instead.

Those machines are EVERYWHERE. We filled up 2 1/2 coin press books in 6 days.

After many attempts, what work like magic was a rust/lime liquid remover. I just put a handful of pennies in a plastic cup and poured the liquid over them just to cover. Then I stirred for a minute. They came out very bright. I'd heard of using an eraser, which I tried 1st and it didn't do much good , but I used one on my clean pennies and the difference was amazing ! Brand new !

Anyone have success with cleaning pennies that you've already smooched?

I tried it after our last visit but I didn’t have very good results despite the assortment of cleaners and methods I tried.
