Yea I'm serious

Going to WDW next week and I got each DD $20 in quarters to do the stamped Penny machines. Figured it was a good way to keep them quiet about buying lots of other stuff.

My problem is that I now need 80 shinny pennies. The bank was no help. They couldn't find any nice rolls so now I have to clean up a bunch of pennies from my change jar.

Anyone know of a good way to clean a penny?

My son used to clean pennies with catsup. Weird but true :)

You can also use Barkeepers Friend

Salt and lemon juice, metal polish, tomato sauce(yes, I am serious.

My DH uses vinegar and salt . . .believe it or not . . .

He puts the pennies in vinegar and then takes a small bowl of salt and rubs the salt on the pennies and they come out pretty clean and shiny.

Hope this helps.

Vinegar should do it. You might want to check out this page on Deb's site.

You can rub them with a pencil eraser but it is alittle tedious a great job for 6-10 yrolds

Any change that someone leaves in their pocket and then goes through the washer is always really clean and shiny.

I don't know but everytime I toss away a bad penny ...it keeps showing up

I recommend the vinegar method. We used that one in school one day for a science exp.

Lori P. :)

There is also a powder copper cleaner (for cleaning copper bottom pans) that comes in a shaker container (like Comet). You scrub a little on and rinse it off. Cleans in an instant.

Soak them in Coke

Rub them with Catsup or tomato sauce

Use vinegar

Does this frighten anyone else here, that we all consume these items which can clean a penny?
:scared1:

Ditto on the vinegar...

I soak them in vinegar overnight or longer, then rub them with a cloth. The gunk should come off easily.

(And you thought it was a weird question, didn't you???)

I do not recommend leaving them in vinegar overnight. I tried this once and the pennies eroded.
For cleaning pennies soak the penny in white vinegar for about a minute or two. Then clean them with toothpaste. Use your fingers to scrub the dirt out of the crevices. Don't scrub them with a brush as it may scratch them. Rinse with water and pat dry with a paper towel. Leave them out to let the air circulate around them for a bit to ensure they are completely dry before storage. Voila, clean pennies!

soak them in Coke or use Taco Bell hot sauce.

::yes::

I used to work at Taco Bell back in my HS/College days...this amused me while working on drive-thru. hehehe

Pepsi doesn't work though - gotta be coke!

I actually ran over a packet of hot sauce in the parking lot in my old car...no lie, it ate away at the paint.
