Hi!

Hubby and I are in WDW Dec 5 - 11. It's our first trip to WDW and our first trip without the boys (15 & 16).

I'm really concerned about gaining weight while gone. I gained 5 lbs in 7 days last Dec in Disneyland. It took me all winter to loose it.

I have some stratagies:
- no starchy foods other than breakfast
- dining reservations are all made for 1:30. Hoping I can walk off some of the calories during the afternoon.
- try to have salads for evening meal. Which quick service spots have good salads?
-drink water
- avoid alcoholic drinks
- avoid the bakeries. This will be the hard one!

Any one else have any ideas?

Enjoy your vacation and worry about the weight when you get home. Try to lose a couple pounds before you go so you can eat more when you get there. Vacation is a time to splurge and when you get back work off the weight it will be worth it. Have a great time!

I would normally agree with above poster, but if you really had to work all winter to lose the weight it won't be worth it to you. Share meals. Don't get any sweets, just share a bite of someone elses. Wear a pedometer to keep you honest on how much walking you are doing.

Ride lots of tummy dropping or spinning rides. Who can eat after that anyway?

like one poster said - lose a few pounds prior to the trip - I do this all the time before I travel.
Also, other than the walking - try working out also - I go for a run in the morning atleast every other day while at WDW, and depending on what resort you are staying at - it may have a fitness center (deluxe's)

also, splurge - but try not to over do it - don't clean your plate! :)

Im going for two weeks in Nov - leave wk from Sat
I wanted to be down a few lbs but so far that isnt happening. Im only 5lbs from goal but those 5lbs went on last Dec and are still hanging around.

Anyways I wear a pedometer at WDW. I walk in the mornings besides walking around the parks. I drink water. I have a sitdown lunch w/some type of salad. And then I spend the afternoon/night dancing at Off Kilter!
Im usually ok at WDW. (and yes I have my few drinks! It is vacation afterall)

Staying 4ngihts Pop, 4nights Coronado, 5nights BCV (both Coronado and BC have fitness centers. BC also has yoga) Both Coronado and BC have lakes to walk around - Pop 1/2 a lake!

aside from not worrying about it while you're there, i'd suggest not finishing whatever it is that's in front of you - just "taste" everything and not feel compelled to clean your plate - above all, don't deny your tastebuds!

We're using the DDP again. I usually eat 1 meal a day, so I have to watch. However, this trip, I'll only eat 1 meal and save the counter services and then on the last day get lots of snacks to take to Universal for a couple of days. That way I'm not wasting the credits.

At the table service restaurants:

1.When the server comes to check on you, have them take your plate.

2.Don't deny yourself the appetizer or dessert, just don't eat it all.

I ate sooooooooooo wrong when my husband and I were there in September.....I mean off off off.......and I didnt gain anything......what was my secret.........we were on the go from breakfast till night time......walking and sometimes running to get someplace fast ....swimming .....I am a diabetic and I am supposed to have only so many carbs per meal and snack time....and no way did I stay anywheres near my amount.....I ate alot and enjoyed myself.....keep your self active when you go and I really think that the pounds will not pile on....

I am surprised you gained weight, with all the walking. I have never been to Disneyland, so I don't know how big it is compared to WDW but WDW is a lot of walking. I can understand about not wanting to gain weight, but at the same time the food is part of the fun. A few tips: eat only when you are hungry not just because, eat more often but smaller amounts, everything in moderation. If you do want to go to the bakery make sure you will then keep moving to work it off. For some of your snacks try some fresh fruit. Just keep walking and perhaps swimming, it is the best way to burn off calories. Try not to worry too much about it and enjoy your vacation. Good luck!:)

I've lost 7 so far and have 8 more to go! I'm sure I'll lose it just in time to gain it back during our December trip!:lmao:
You sound like you have a good strategy with eating lunch later. I'm doing the same thing - We usually eat dinner at Le Cellier and I love the pretzel breadsticks, Cheese soup etc. so we are doing it for lunch instead so I can splurge and still have all day to walk it off. I'm planning on eating fruit in the lounge for breakfast that morning and a salad for dinner!
I think if you go with a bit of a plan - this is the first time actually planning for me- it will be a lot easier to stick with your diet! I usually only gain about 2 pounds because of all the walking but with the holidays right around the corner, I don't want to gain any this trip! Good luck and have a great trip!:)

just try to remember that Disney will still be fun if you are not eating ice cream 3 times a day:) I am in the same boat as you. I just lost 10 pounds and don't want to gain any back. Every time I travel I always come home a pound or two heavier (probably due to travel) but by the next week it is gone. My plan for our 12 days of DDP is to eat whatever I want but control portion size. You can do it. Good Luck!:flower3:

Just don't go crazy! It's okay to eat one big meal at dinner, but maybe try salads and other healthy things for dessert. Share portions, those CS and other portions at Disney are HUGE. I couldn't finish them if I wanted to.

You walk A LOT at WDW. It's much bigger than Disneyland, which is why my family usually never gains anything. Make sure you're walking, try to do it at a brisk pace sometimes, and don't overeat. Stop eating when you're full, don't try to shove those last few forkfuls in when you feel as though you're going to burst.

Her'es my 2-cents... see if this works for you

If you are on the DDP....
For your appetizer, get a salad everytime. Limit your bread intake at dinner.
For your entree - look for lighter meats such as fish and chicken. Only eat half the starch. Avoid fried stuff.
For dessert - as of October 7th, all TS restaurants offer a sugar-free dessert selection, so go for that, or skip dessert and see if you can trade your dessert credit for a specialty coffee, such as a cappuccino.

If you do this, you'll be able to indulge at a bakery from time to time. Just try not to do it too close to bedtime.

Most of all - drink lots of water.

I can relate to you firsthand. I've worked very hard over the past year to lose 35 lbs. and I'm where I want to be now. I've been doing a "modified" Weight Watchers "way of eating" (not a diet) and I work out almost everyday which includes 45-60 minutes of cardio. That being said I too was concerned about gaining weight during our last 2 visits in May and Sept. (just 2 weeks ago). Even a few lbs. takes weeks and weeks to shed!

I can tell you that both resorts we stayed at had fitness centers. Both trips were about 4-5 days long so I made sure to get to the fitness center in the morning when I woke most of the days we were there. I didn't do my normal long workout but a modified workout PLUS I also wore a pedometer all day.

Yes, you do a lot of walking in the parks, from the bus to the parks, etc but it's not "aerobic" so you're not going to burn off everything however it is easy to walk 10 miles a day in WDW...really! If you're staying in one of the larger resorts or in a resort area that has a path you can walk on and you don't want to do the gym take an early morning cardio walk for 45 minutes.

Food-wise does get a bit tricky. Depending on your activity level for that specific day can depend on what you eat.

I allowed myself 1 treat a day and I'm talking "ice cream sundae". We did eat breakfast in the room everyday though which saved time. Either some yogurt, fruit and granola or one of my alternative bagels with peanut butter.

We did lunch in the parks which again, like many previous posters mentioned, be realistic sticking with lighter foods like salads with chicken or sandwiches that you can remove one of the slices of bread from, etc. Veggies instead of fries as you can.

At dinnertime I'd sometimes have a side salad and an appetizer for dinner or if I ordered an entree I once again would order something light like fish, chicken or just eat 1/2 of the portion if it was large. Just normal common sense things you would do otherwise. We'd split desserts if we ordered them or dd would get one and I'd have a few tastes. Just because your on the DDP doesn't mean you have to eat all of what you get..;)

I also try as much as possible to stay away from the buffet meals. One per visit and that's it. And, I'd take very little portions of the different buffet items. Any "all you can eat family style" meals I'd not ask for seconds unless it was a request for more veggies or salads (with dressings on the side).

I do admit that I ate more than I normally do at home but when we got home I expected that I gained a pound or 2 but surprisingly didn't gain anything at all.
Good luck but ENJOY!:goodvibes

go get the unofficial guide and follow their plans - they have you walking (or jogging) all over the place.

when you wake up each morning - before breakfast - go for a walk or jog - WDW is very, very pretty with the sun coming up. So go for it!!!

which resort are you staying at?

all the deluxe and DVC resorts have a walking/jogging path. (except AKL/AKV)

here are a couple of websites to help

WDW is way bigger than DL....

I think all the extra walking you will do will help...

that andnever finish anything:goodvibes
Have a great trip

Thanks everyone!

We are staying at the CBR and without the DDP. I plan on getting it for our trip with the teenage sons next Sept, though.

I will be pushing Hubby in his wheelchair so that will increase the exercise level of my walking around.

I have ADR for 2 seafood restaurants, and generally order seafood when we are dining out anyways. And I normally just snack or eat salads other than that. I'll just try to eat like I normally do.

I'm going to make a note about sugar-free dessert selections. Hubby's diabetic so he will be happy, too.

Congratulations to all of you who have recently lost weight!!

I was on the DDP for 7 days in August and gained just 1.5 pounds.

We ate breakfast we brought from home (100 calorie English muffins or Fiber One Bar) brought snacks to the park with us (raisens, Fiber One Bars), and for lunch I ate as healthy as possibe. Salad, nothing fried. Drank only water and a lot of it (you know they give you ice water for free at the food/drink concessions, all you have to do is ask). At dinner, I ate what I wanted to until I was more than satisfied (sometimes stuffed!) I also enjoyed dessert every night and probably about 1 alcoholoc drink a night. All the walking and water counteracted anything "bad." I was thrilled when I got back!

Good luck!

Part of what I love about DisneyWorld is that I get to eat great food and I don't gain weight because we powerwalk all day long.

The other thing we do is DH and I share an appetizer, entree, and dessert for lunch and dinner and we have a small breakfast in our room or on the go. At lunch and dinner we usually have a glass of wine or beer (each, we don't share everything). OK, at dinner we may have 2 glasses or a fancy Disney cocktail.

It is the greatest thing! I get to eat food I normally can't consume without going to two spin classes the next day and am required to enjoy as much of Disney as I can pack into a day to work it off. I believe this is what's called a win/win. :goodvibes

i forgot to add
breakfast is usually in the room - raisin bran to help w/the system
Since I have a salad w/meal for sitdown lunch I usually either skip or snack (popcorn) at dinnertime
