How difficult to get in a Hilton Head?

How difficult would it be now to get in at Hilton Head in July or August?? Just looking at other threads of the fun things to do there and thought it might be fun!

Almost impossible, sadly. You can certainly waitlist and hope someone has a change of plans, but the summer at HH is one of those "better own and book at the 11 month mark" to get what you want.

Good luck, though - it's a beautiful resort and a lovely change of pace from WDW!! We will be there for the 4th of July week.

I agree with above post. We added on at HHI in 2002 to get 11 month window for summer. We had no problem before getting xmas week or October, but if you want summer or April vacation week..you need to get 11 months out. Last year we changed plans in January and tried to get HHI for last week in June and a very patient cm looked at each sun-thurs through june,july and finally we got 4 nights aug12 and we took it. We lucked out with nice weather without the crazy 100 degrees(which had been the previous week). We thought ourselves very lucky to get anything at the "last minute".

We also added on at HHI to get the summer 11 month advantage. We just love it there and want to make sure we are able to vacation there during the summer months. Now when we were there last we did meet a few DVC'ers who did get in at the 7 month mark with the waitlist.

Overall VB is not as tough though there are differences. Getting a 1 BR or studio at HH in mid summer is next to impossible while getting a 2 BR is tough but workable much of the time if you call day by day at 7 months. Some weeks will be easier than others. For VB it's more Feb, March to mid April and a studio or Inn room is easier since that is the unit of excess there.

This year? They're pretty much all booked up. I called a few weeks ago for Sun-Thur any week in May or June with no luck. Perhaps late August would be the best bet.

I have not tried - it is true that schools around these parts start mid August. I've always got pre-planning the first or second week, so I'm out of vacation time.

I'd bet August is available at 7 months. I got last year's Spring Break (April, Easter Week) at 7 months - but it was definitely not beach weather yet.

I've heard people claim May w/out trouble too.

Last month I called for 4 nights in early/mid-August, and everything was sold out for points- but I was able to book either a 1bdrm or 2bdrm on cash ressies, which had the DVC 25% discount. The 2bdrm was only $33 more/night than the 1 bdrm would have been!! So we booked that, and invited DH's family to join us. We are all really looking forward to our 1st visit to HHI!

Mid to late August is easier and also easier to trade in. Anyone looking for a 2 Br for 6-7 nights (even 5 with weekend points) might consider a trade in option as well, esp for the top 3 Marriott's. One can start a search up to two years out and could possible get a match as early as about 14 months out for all but the ones with fixed weeks which could come up as much as 18 months out. And for golfers, Heritage offers free golf daily, I think it's for 2 people but does include one round at Harbour Town and one at HH National, I'm sure cart is extra and required though.
