How difficult to book studios?

Another question for you all...sorry! I noticed that there aren't many studios at each resort...SSR doesn't have any. I was looking to purchase enough points for a studio stay. With such little inventory, how difficult is it to book the few that are out there? Thanks.

Saratoga Springs absolutely does have Studio rooms. In fact, all of the DVC resorts have studios. Saratoga Springs actually has the highest number of Studios out of all the DVC resorts.

there are plenty of studios - many are listed as being lock-offs (i.e. a 1BR + a studio = a 2BR) - so some of the charts can trick you...

except for concierge and value studios at AKV, which truly do have teeny-tiny inventory (of 5 and 8 respectively, IIRC), it is pretty easy to book studios at and around the 11 month window. at less busy times of year, you can still find some studios available much closer in (5-6 months out or less...although i'd recommend booking earlier.)

since they allow (roughly) the same occupancy as 1BRs at only around 1/2 the point cost, they do tend to book up more quickly than 1BRs, though.

Ok then I'm TOTALLY confused! There's a post there that says the # of dedicated rooms for each type (studio, 1-bed, 2-bed, etc.). I must be misunderstanding what those are then. Can someone clear this confusion up for me? Thanks!!!!

"dedicated" studios are rare.

most studios are "lockoffs" (i.e. they have a connecting door to a 1BR unit) and are pretty common.

SSR studio dedicated room simply means there is no door adjoining into another room. A 2 bedroom can be a 1 bedroom plus a lock off studio with an adjoining door to permit entry into the other room without going outside to the main door entrance.

2 bedroom lockoffs can be split into a 1 bedroom and studio, reserved separately (the connecting door will be locked on both sides).

We have never had a problem booking Studios .

We book SSR at the 11month mark and then move around the 7month mark.

We just had a BWv stay over the 4th for 5 nights then moved to AKV for 6 nights after that. I had a choice of everything but BW View at that time. I also got my DM and DsF a AKV Sav at about the 6 month mark.

Ours were Dedicated and DMs was a Lockoff.

studios are popular (usually the first room type to book up) + BCV is relatively small + BCV is extra-popular during F&W = it's really, really difficult.

you never know when you might luck out but if you want to stay at BCV during F&W, you'd better buy there...

If you know when you are wanting to travel, then a word to the wise for success with DVC... The Earlier you book the better chance you have of getting your desired room type and location. I have Never had a problem getting my room type and locations I own at ( to knock on wood.) Studios are at every DVC resort. They have a kitchenette, queen bed, sofa sleeper, regular bathroom. There is not a washer/dryer in a studio. There are laundry rooms for your use at the DVC resorts.

bwv and even ssr in nov/dec have been booked up for some time through MS. did you book through CRO? (if so, it's a different inventory and doesn't apply to those looking to stay on points.)

The only time I had a problem was when I underestimated how busy marathon weekend was. Literally every room onsite was reserved when I called. It was my fault for procrastinating.

I've been told by MS that, during busy times, studios and 2BRs are the fastest categories to go. 2BRs are very popular and the studios get removed from availability due to the 2BR lockoffs. That said, I've rarely had an issue even after the 7 month window. It all depends on the time of the year.

Studios are at every DVC resort. They have a kitchenette, queen bed, sofa sleeper, regular bathroom.

I think the studios at OKW have 2 queens and are slightly bigger.

That's one reason we like them.

I was able to book a studio at SSR in April, 2007 on a Sunday and was on a plane that Thursday! I completed the DVC tour but haven't yet purchased and keep going back to it so I think I will eventually get hooked as I am on Disney. Good luck! Chris

I think at 11 months, booking a studio will almost always be successful; at 7 months, you might have to be flexible.

Book where you can and waitlist for where you want to stay. Have faith in those waitlists, they do work for a lot of people (it got us a studio and 2br last Dec 5).
