How difficult is it to juggle multiple use years?

I’m hoping there are some DVC gurus out there that can help me understand how difficult it is to manage multiple use years.

Let’s say that I want to book a split stay every year with two contracts at two different resorts.

Is this a major headache? Would I have two separate log-ins to the member site?

It's not bad at all. You have one login and you can toggle in between contracts once you're on the website. You can't combine the contracts to make one reservation, but if you are doing split stays it's not a big deal. The one thing to note is that the different use years will have different banking/borrowing deadlines so that might increase the chance that your reservation falls within the last four months of your UY, which could be problematic if you had to cancel.

It's twice as much work and more to keep track of. Is it doable, sure, but why create more work and chance of errors unless you have a good reason?

I have 4 use years and its not that much trouble at all. It would be nice to have all one use year but use year only matters for time you are staying someplace.

I have two use years, and if I buy another contract I might get a third. Although it is more work, the one thing I really like is that I can have more waitlists going at the same time. I use this “feature” regularly.

I have 4 UYs and no issues. However, I keep my resorts in separate UYs. For example, all my BLT points are in my June UY. All my VGF points are in my Feb UY and so on. I have used Feb points for a Jan stay and will be using Dec points for a Nov stay. With kids in school and things changing as they get older, our travel times are constantly changing. There is no predictability with school age kids unfortunately.

So if you have 2 contracts at the same resort, but different use years, you can’t combine to make one reservation?

So each contract would have to cover a specific number of days, and you couldn’t cover a night that costs 11 points with 5 from one and 6 from the other?

They are different membership numbers and treated separately. You could transfer points from one contract to another to combine into one reservation, but keep in mind that transferred points do not show up online and the reservation would need to be made over the phone.

we have 2 (and a resale pending for a 3rd) and have never had a problem. we travel several times of year, and use them all for different trips. if you have a clear idea of how you want to use them, and a good way to track it all, it's not much of an issue at all.

We bought a resale contract right before the restriction deadline with an Aug UY to match our existing contract. Turns out the UY was a typo and was in fact Sep. instead. I will now have to juggle multiple use years not by choice. Lucky me! This would fall in the good reason category lol.

I’m sorry that happened to you. They wouldn’t let you back out after they revealed that had listed the use year incorrectly?

So a summary of the disadvantages would be:

1)Different banking deadlines
2)Unable to use points from both memberships for a single reservation without transferring points (limited to 1x per year) and thus requiring a phone call

Any more?

Advantages:

1)Additional waitlist opportunities
2)Additional guests for special events, tours, dining etc. (where applicable)
3)Ability to get additional point transfers from other members

Any more?

They did give me the option to cancel, however we really wanted the points without the new restrictions because I bought 75 direct knowing I needed to add resale. I wanted to be able to use all my points at new resorts going forward.
