Last year I vowed to lose weight before cruise, had 6 months didn't lose an ounce. we are now going on cruise this next Ocober and I really want to lose weight. Not just for the cruise but at least that reasoning gives me ambition. I have gained about 6 pounds since last cruise in October. History - I was always a twig, skinniest (horrible eater -junk food) of my friends throughout school and college weighed about 105 pound before I got pregnant. Well I gained 60 pounds with first pregnancy. Yeah way more than your supposed to, well I thought it would all come off since I never had problem with weight before. So I have dd and lose about 30 pounds. (not working out) I was now 135 and I hated it. Through the next 5 years gained about 5 more pounds. Up to 140 now prego with 2nd child. add another 60 pounds (you think I would have learned and not got ice cream every day) So I am 200 pounds when DS is due, it looked like I was having twins. After son was born I lost 25 pounds down to 175. I then went on this Prism diet kind of like Atkins no carbs or comforst foods. I am a huge meat eater and pasta eater no veggies or rice for me:crazy2: I have horrible eating habits anywway getting by on mostly chicken and cheese I managed to lose about 15 pounds over the next couple months putting me at 160. Well over the past 5 years I have managed to work my way up to 185. I feel so bad for DH this is not the woman he married. Every once in a while I will be good and walk on treadmill for about 30 minutes daily but that only lasts about two weeks before I fall off the wagon. So my combination of low exercise and horrible eating is really hindering my wieght loss. I just feel like no matter how much I work out nothing will happen, so why bother. I know alot of my friends have the attitude, I ate horrible today I need to work out double. I am opposite if I eat horrible I say why bother I already ruined it. I know, I know!!!

Anyone have any great inspirational weight loss stories you care to share,
I know this is very personal to some but if anyone is willing to spill the beans please do so. I have one friend who has yet to gain alot of weight from their prenancies, most look the same a couple weeks after, what the heck:confused3

Have you tried the WISH board.? It is a very good place for this. I hear you on this issue OH to well. I am now on my own Weight Watchers diet where I count my points, and can basically eat anything I want without going over. It has helped me realize the good from the bad. I also "try" to use my treadmill 3 x a week, "try" being the operative word here...

Once you do exercise often, at least for me, I have found that I don't want to eat the junk, as I worked so hard to exercise (and I hate that)..

Good luck to you. I have lost 15 pounds in 2 months, not a lot, but better than nothing...:grouphug:

Wow good for you - I would to to lose 15 pounds. I have 2 friends at work that are doing weight watchers. Neither one is heavy so it is hard to get ambtion from them, but they always tell me yo come with. Just counting points I think would drive me mad for every meal. I should try it though, at least I could have a wider variety of food.:p

I did not join, but do my own version. I have a copy of the book and the points. I am a VERY poor eater, junk junk junk. So most days I do well, the salad, the fruit, blah blah. On the days my cravings kick in, I eat nothing all day, and save my points for the nights;) Not the way they want you to do things, but HEY if it is still the right points, why not..

It is very difficult, I know. My friends are all slim jim, and have had kids also. Me on the other hand:upsidedow

My dh was VERY heavy for a long time, so it does work, it is never too late.

He was 350 and is now at 200 pounds. He lost a complete person, and looks great, and feels better. IT does work. He did it all on his own, with hard work and determination. I loved him no matter what his size, I just feared for his health too much. I would not worry about your DH, he loves you I am sure.

Now the joke is on me, as my DH is a health/exercise nut, and I suddenly gained the weight:sad:

There are no magic tricks or magic words. You have to reach a point where you say "enough is enough". It has to come from within you or it won't stick.

I know this because I struggle the same. I was 118 lbs, and worked in restaurants so I was walking all the time, and was strong and it was jsut my life. I could eat whatever I wanted, and established eating habits that have stuck with me... I got a desk job when I was 23, and being sedentary plus my bad habits, I gained weight. I didn't even really notice...it just happened over time.

Now I am 180. I teach dance, but it isn't aerobic enough, and I have metabolized that type of physical movement--despite teaching and dancing 6 hours a week, it doesn't do it if I don't do other kinds of exercise and eat better.

Hubby and I are on a mission to lose weight this year--30 lbs is our goal. But hopefully if get some momentum, we will lose more. We replaced the sofa with an exercise bike, and get on it semi regularly, but not as much as we should. And our eating hasn't improved as much as it should.

When we did Weight Watchers two years ago, we got in a great rhythm. I hit that "today it is going to change" conviction, and stuck with it for three months and lost 16 lbs...and gained it all back...

I know I have to hit that "I am fed up with myself and need to change it TODAY" to really get back on the wagon. I am trying. I am starting to make some little lists of rewards and incentives to keep me motivated. Wish me luck, and I will keep you in my thoughts as well!

I'm also doing Weight Watchers after having a baby. I had done it twice in the past with success. The first time, I quit and didn't keep up with what I had learned. The second time, I got pregnant but was able to not gain too much by using what I learned. Now I'm finishing what I started so that I can wear a bathing suit proudly on the cruise. I like WW because I don't have to give up anything, I just need to learn to make better choices and use portion control.

Anyone ever try slim fast for t meals a day?

Yikes, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I was thin all through high school and stayed that way through 2 pregnancies. I didn't start gaining the weight until I went from a teaching job to a desk job. That was in my late thirties. Now that I am over 40, the weight is even tougher to lose, especially since I quit smoking too. But this time I am determined.

I found out that my cholesterol is a bit high and the doctor says I've got to loose at least 25 pounds and start exercising. I actually feel that I need to lose at least 30, but we'll see once I start getting to that number. I know that one of my major problems is exercise. Every time that I tried I said I would do it 3-4 times a week. Unfortunately, once I had a day off it seemed an excuse to continue being lazy. In my late twenties and early thirties I used to be religious about exercising every day. So I have decided that I am going to exercise every day now. Some days may be lighter than others, but I will not miss a day anymore. It seems to have helped me. At first it was hard trying to find the time. But I told myself if I didn't start finding the time, I may have no time at all. I think I have a further motivator because my father died at 54 of a heart attack. That's only 10 years away!

Well, I have only been eating better and exercising a couple weeks so far. I have decided that I will not weigh myself for 1 month, so I have no idea how much I have lost. I know that I have lost some because my clothes are definitely fitting better. But I am trying not to get caught up in a number and concentrating more on how I feel and the way I look. Another thing that motivates me are fitness magazines like Fitness, Shape, and Prevention.

I think that everyone is completely different when it comes to weight loss and being healthy. That is why certain programs work for some and not for others. I think you have to find out what will motivate you to take charge of the situation and what lifestyle is going to work for you. Be sure to find fun ways to exercise. I like workout tapes with great music, so it seems like I am at a dance club instead of working out at home. Sometimes I just put on a great upbeat cd and make up my own moves.

Good Luck!

I also love WW. I have tired of keeping up with points, but now I realize how many points things are worth. That cheesecake better be good for me to put that many points/calories in my mouth.
It really teaches good eating habits, and sometimes the creme brule (can't spell it..just eat it!) cheesecake is good enough! :worship:

If you want to do Weight Watchers, but don't want to count points, go to a second hand bookstore and look for an old WW cookbook that has menu plans in it. I have two different ones, and one of them has 52 weeks of menus. Just follow the menu plans and you don't have to worry about counting points.

Just a tip, the much older plan required you to eat liver once or twice a week. It has since been determined that liver is bad for you (THANK GOD!) so every time liver comes on the menu exchange it for a lean meat you like. Chicken or fish would be the best choice.

I hear ya! After seeing how horrible I looked in our cruise photos last September, I realised enough was enough! 11/1 I started a diet and exercise plan. Nothing crazy, just very healthy, common sense type of eating and walking. Sometimes its not easy, but so far I have lost 35 pounds and I feel great! Next cruise I plan to look very different in those photos! :cool1:

::yes:: I totally agree with this. You just have to be really ready for it to work. I have tried so many times to lose weight and would be good for a short time, but then "fall off" again only to gain back whatever I lost. I too, had always been tall and skinny and never really had to work at it....until I had my third DD and I hit 30 years old. Now it's a real effort to lose the weight.

For me, it was this past December. I was so sick of feeling gross. I decided I had enough and I would do whatever it took to lose the weight. I tried WW with little success, although I know many people that it has worked wonders for.

I have a friend that has lost 140 lbs by changing her eating lifestyle...she is a real inspiration for me. She now runs a weekly support group that I attend when I'm not working.

Basically the "healthy choices plan" is no sugar, only whole grains (no white flour, white rice, regular pasta) lean proteins and lots of veggies and fruit. For me this is easier than WW because I know I can't have cookies (for example). With WW, if I wanted a cookie, I would count the points. The problem was, I could never have just one cookie. I'd tell myself, "only one" then I would proceed to eat the whole box. :(

Portion control is a big part of the plan too. I never realized how much I over ate until I saw what a normal portion looked like!

The idea is that you can change your eating for life, not just until you lose the weight. How many times have we all gone on a "diet" to gain all the weight back (and then some) when we go back to our old eating habits?

I also get on my treadmill 6 days a week. I am a huge procrastinator, so I make myself do it first thing in the morning before the kids get up. Otherwise, I would make excuses all day and never get on. It feels so good when it's 7:30 and I'm done exercising for the day! Then I can Dis with out the guilt ;)

I wish you the best of luck pixiedust:

You have to get off your @ss everyday and move it for at least 30 minutes. Walking is great and if have gym access 3 days of cardio is great too.

You also need to think water, water, water. No more sodas ever.

I agree cepmom. I've got to exercise in the morning too. But I do try to get a bit of movement in after dinner too. Sometimes it is a romantic walk with DH or often it is marching in place while watching American Idol. I was told by a dietician that one of the biggest mistakes that Americans make is to eat a large dinner and then sit around watching TV. So I try to get myself up and moving a bit after dinner. This last week I picked small chores to do each night and found that I didn't have to clean my house over the weekend. :thumbsup2

that's a good idea too! I work several evenings a week after dinner, so I am moving a lot at work (retail ~ on my feel all night) but the nights I am home I will try to keep moving! Maybe I can have my Saturday mornings back if I keep it up all week! :thumbsup2

I'll tell everyone this; my DW and I have lost a total of around 40 lbs. in the past 7 weeks. I lost 20 and she lost 18. Now I won't lie and say that exercise didn't play a part, but the BIGGEST part is what you eat. We didn't do weight watchers or south beach diest or this and that. We just got smarter. We lowered our caloric intake. For instance, we would eat 6 egg whites, (which isn't as much as it sounds) and 1/2 cup of oatmeal with a banana for natural sweetener for breakfast. Then we would eat things like baked fish with rice for dinner. And for lunch we would eat a salad with grilled chicken on it. If you can make yourself eat every 2 1/2 hours that really jump starts your metabolism. Have the breakfast I mentioned, a protein bar, the lunch, a protein shake, and then the dinner. The key is to get more protein, less calories, more fiber, and cut out the sugars. Most people will tell you to cut out carbs; DON'T!! You need carbs to function. The part you need to cut out is the SUGAR in carbs. Also, if you can make yourself drink only water that helps. Even diet sodas have a lot of sodium to make you retain water/weight. Like I said, we just started eating smarter and we've lost around 20 lbs each with still 9 months to go before the cruise. Good luck to all of us!!!! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:
