How Did You Get Your Pet?

Here is Kona - adopted two weeks ago from our local shelter. I realize its only been two weeks, but there hasn't been one accident and the temperment of this dog is just amazing! But I will admit, we were going for a medium sized, short haired dog - and this is what we came home with.

Sometimes love takes a different course.

Congratulations. That is a fine looking pup!

ellie was a pound puppy. swiss roll was a neighbors cat but thr kids there were mean to her and she came to be our cat. of course she was preg and and each kid wanted to keep akitten so we also have dd, pirate , and pitty.

miss tinks came from a breeder. I wanted a chihuahua and could not find one in a rescue group. She was older when I got her (4 months) and had been placed once, the breeder took her back due to abuse (they broke her ear and paw) she took to me and followed me everywhere, so home she came.

I got both of my cats when they were kittens from my boyfriend's cousins cat who had kittens.

We got Jasmine from a breeder a friend of mine recommended. Then a couple years later, after I had to put my 2 older collies down (also bought from breeders), I seen the breeders I got Jasmine from at a dog show. They were looking to place a nearly 2 yo Blue Merle collie they bought to show, but because of her teeth now can't.

We took her. She's been here a year now. Jasmine and Bella had some issues at first but now they're BFF.

I was about to buy 3 Ragdoll kittens and was just about to pay and sign the dotted line. Until I found petfinder.com. I drove 4 hours each way to save my furbabies from a humane society in Baltimore. I paid $85 each.

You could check surrounding areas on Petfinder.com within driving distance. Though some require local adoptions only or home inspections.

GL!

We got our greenwing macaw from a reputable place that deals with exotic birds. We got our bichon frise/shihtzu doggie from a breeder. We got our maine coon kittie from a rescue society. We got our cockatiel also from a rescue society. We got our goldfish and siamese fighting fish from the petstore.

DD, DH and I visit my Dsis. New kittens under porch, wild ones, in mid winter. DH tell DD she can have one. I become a mother again that day. Hated cats! Kitten was ill. I got kitten to vet and nutured kitten. I FELL IN LOVE WITH KITTEN!

Its 5 years now and I have the bestest kitten ever who thinks I am her MOM :rotfl: This all happened ON MOTHERS DAY 2000 !!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Our most recent addition was a Ragdoll from a local breeder. She's such a sweet kitty! We also have a Siberian Husky and a Siamese that we were lucky enough to find through ads in the paper.

I don't have many photos of my Siamese because she's always scowling. DD calls her Crabby Pants. :goodvibes

Ok, my DW is a pushover for cats, so during the time we lived in Gainesville she saw a post on a Shand forum about a lady wanting to get rid of some kitties she con me into driving out there to get them. Thats how we got Cali. Then her cousin's girlfriend's cat had kittens some months back and that is how we have the walking terror know as Stitch.

We've had 2 dogs. Both were rescues.

The first dog, Cinnamon, was straight from the pound.

After she died, we got Molly from a rescue organization that took her from the pound. We found Molly's rescue organization info. on petfinder.com. I didn't see Molly listed on petfinder as she was mistakenly put in the wrong category of dog size, but when I called the rescue organization and told them what kind of dog I was looking for, they said that they have the perfect fit for us in foster care. They actually brought her to our house and let her spend the night with us so we can make sure she was kid-friendly before we signed the paperwork.

We got our dog from some friends who's dog had puppies--they have the mom/dad dog, both are pure bread dogs they just don't keep papers on them. We considered a shelter dog but someone said that often dogs are in shelters for a reason so we opted for a puppy that we could train the way we wanted it trained.

we had our first dalmatian from a breeder in Maine and we opted for a limited registration because we would not breed the dog. SHe died of cancer and it took us three years to get to the point of wanting another one.....we have a two year old dalmatian now and we got her from a really good breeder in NH and she is perfect.....well not perfect as she is a thief.....she steals when no one is looking....hahaha.....I would prefer to go thru a breeder as I know the background of the dog and how many times they breed a year.....we were fortunate to have a great dog .......Megara is her name.......our first dal was Jasmine.......

O...M...G, I am in love with your furbabies! Beautiful!

Well, we have two dogs and both were rescues.

Janky is an adorable 91/2 year old, brindle female greyhound. We adopted her through a wonderful rescue group called LIGHT (Long Island Greyhound Transfer). Dh and I had done a LOT of research on the breed after meeting the group and their dogs at a booth at a county fair. Turns out they are the perfect breed...for us (but we think just in general!). I believe the adoption fee was $250 and covered all shots, teeth cleaning, spaying etc. We actually didn't even pick Janky out (thank God because there is NO way I could walk into a kennel full of sad faces and have to choose just one!). We described out lifestyle and habits to the rescue group and they paired us with her. The day we met her was the day we adopted her. This was 5 years ago and it was the best thing DH and I ever did!

Our other dog, Milhouse is a also a rescue. He's a 100lb 2 1/2 year old Black Lab/Chow cross (with a head the size of a black bears). We found him when he was 3 months old sitting in the middle of the road next to the carcass of his mother, who had been hit by a car and killed. We were on our way home from a horseshow and one of my students saw an 18 wheeler drive OVER HIM (he was literally between the wheels). So they stopped and grabbed him from the road and asked the neighbors whose dogs they were. The neighbors pointed at the house next door and said it was ONE of their many puppies and that the puppy and carcass had been in the middle of the road for THREE DAYS. The neighbors pleaded with my student to take the puppy...the neighbors wouldn't notice/care, so they did...and gave the pup to DH and I. We named him after Bart Simpson's best friend and he is a wonderful WONDERFUL dog!
