How did you choose your "home?"

when we were buying Disney was selling BCV and I was aware but not as knowledgeable or comfortable with resale since I had just found the DIS. We had it narrowed down between BCV through DVC and OKW through resale.

The options at the time were...
OKW - low purchas price and Ohhhh those Grand Villas
BWV - BCV was right next door so would choose to go through Disney (comfort and ease factors)
VWL - cool theming but not for us. We want to leave the snow to the beach.
BCV - Ease of purchase. Location!!!

BCV won.

If I was buying today. I don't think SSR with it's 12 extra years would sway me. I think with SSR having close to 40% of the rooms it will be harder to get smaller resorts especially in the popular times - like school beaks that must be respected no matter how much we don't want to. SSR just doesn't have the draw for us either with location or room size/amenities. So today our family would either buy BWV resale (cheaper then BCV with the same location) or wait for the next DVC (CRV or VAKL) which could be announced soon. (I'm thinking fall.)

We had been looking at DVC for a couple years and really any of the resorts are fine by me. We were going back and forth when we received a mail notice about SSR's initial offering and that it was a new 50-year term. That sealed it for us we called immediately and purchased without so much as a tour. On our first stay at SSR we were very happy with the resort, it is beautiful.

Buy where you'll be happiest. What appeals to one may not appeal to another. All the resorts have there pluses and minuses. What one member considers a negative another will consider a positive. We choose OKW for reasons that others didn't chose the resort. Factors that appealed to us were location and isolation -- the feeling of getting away from it all. Cost for points (resale) and dues. We are older so being able to park up close to our rooms was another added benefit. We found a nice resale that included banked points. Then we found an add-on in which the first years dues were paid by the seller. If we were younger we may have considered SSR due to the expiration but, then again, OKW still has a charm for us that the others lack. It's a subjective decision. But then again, we, too, are old hippies. :surfweb:

Well we bought BWV because it was the first resort we stayed at.We needed a kitchen and the one bedroom was available.Immediately after our visit we decided to buy and buy there.we loved the location to epcot and mgm and blizzard beach. It was easy to get down town from there and over to typhoon lagoon. If I had known about resales at the time i would have saved some money and did it that way.As of this time we have never stayed anywhere else and have no desire to do so.We make most of our reservations at the 10 to 11 month window and have always gotten the rooms we want.I never thought too much about the amounrt of years on the contract because i figured that in my time disney will open up a few more resorts on the property and who knows someday i might want a change. If you feel that the 12 years is the most important thing to you then by all means go downtown,I just think with all the new properties going to open that the 11 month window might become the most important factor to buying in.

We bought VWL on gut and sentimentality. DH grew up going to Ft Wilderness and his fondest memories are of bike riding there and taking the boat home after a long day at MK. We also love going in early Dec and knew we had to have home resort advantage for VWL in Dec.

We are also still young but the 12 years wasn't enough to sway us to SSR. Who know what the time frame will be on the next DVC (Contemp, AKL etc) and if we get 30+ years we're doing well. Then our kids can buy their own contracts and take us :)

We chose BWV because of:

1) Proximity to Epcot (and MGM) :sunny: :sunny:
2) All the restaurants & activities right there :goodvibes
3) Theming
4) Standard view uses fewer points! :cheer2:

We chose BWV resale as our first purchase because promixity to the parks is important to us with young grandchildren and we love walking to Epcot/MGM plus all of the offerings and activities available on the Boardwalk.

For those times when we want a relaxed vacation with less hustle and bustle, but still close to the Magic, we are planning on adding on at VWL as we want to vacation there in December and need the home booking window for that time.

For us, having close access to 3 out of the 4 parks was a major factor in deciding where to purchase. Now, if they add VAKL, we'll be all over that one too!

we are buying at BCV b/c of the pool (have small kids) and proximity to parks.
... it was toss-up between BCV and VWL (the pool won).

I figure as our needs change w/ time we will either sell/buy into a different resort... or just add on where we are.

Good luck.

We selected OKW and BCV because of preference. OKW for its style (condo), theme, villa size and cost to own. BCV for SAB, proximity to Epcot and YC/BC themes.

My slant on buying is to buy where you want to stay if you need and can use the extended booking window. Give some thought to how your vacation patterns may change over the years. Otherwise buy where you have the lowest total cost of ownership over the contract. SSR fits that right now and is a wonderful resort!

Give our sponsors a call and see what they can do for you.
