How did you buy--location, price, or year?

Our first 2 contracts, we bought where we love to stay - BCV and VWL. Our next 2 contracts, we bought at OKW and SSR. They have lower MF's than BCV and VWL, and we consider them our "play points". We will use them only at 7 months, or trade for cruises, etc. If I were to only have one home resort, I would buy where I love staying the most!

First 4 contracts based on location.................next 2 based on price as add on contracts.

I bought SSR because that was where the DVC was located and I fell in love with the resort. Haven't stayed anywhere else. Bought add ons at SSR because the add ons were cheaper at the time than the original price I paid per point... When my guide asked about buying my add on at one of the newer resorts for the longer ownership, I told her my kids could buy their own points:rotfl2:

We bought based on best price at the resort we love. I think having a good home resort is the most important.

know you have decided on SSR and at their resale price can't blame you.

that say own a small contract at BWV and VWL - plus now BLT.

use to own at OKW - it is a lovely resort but always wanted a monrail DVC resort. so when one came along - sold OKW and brought BLT. only half as many points at BLT as OKW - for the same amount of money (at the time).

went with what I loved. no regrets.

my use year is June and this works well - it was excellent when the kids were younger (my DB's children) now they are both in college.

bought BWV because we stayed there and loved it (still do.... it's my family's absolute favorite resort - including DH, kidlets, parents, brother, SIL, nephews', etc..)

bought BCV b/c it was near the BWVs

bought SSR for the extended life of contract, and proximity to DTD

now every year, we use all the BCV points and some SSR to book BWV for our lower season vacations, and saving the BWV points for the F&WF.

lesson learned: do find out what resort you love, and buy/add on there. saves a lots of headache and heartache in the future :)

well, we are waffling now over to BWV because it is our very favorite. Anyone use A Timeshare Broker to purchase resale before?

We always work with resales DVC for all of our resale contracts. The DVC forums sponsor is more then capable to help you find the right contract. They are the largest DVC reseller.

I wouldn't buy a resale contract without a licensed broker, unless it was a close friend or family member.

Yes, I agree. "A Timeshare Broker" is actually the name of the realtor. I definitely would not attempt witout a broker either. Just curious if anyone has used this particular one. They have a contract up that would be just about perfect for us.

Huh...I never heard of them, until now. They look legit...just check the BBB if you are unsure.

I usually check with the "big four companies" for resales. I'll have to add them to my bookmarks now.

We purchased SSR from Disney, but a couple of years later, we decided we wanted to flexibility to stay at our favorite resort--BWV. So, we bought BWV based on the resort. I guess we have the best of both worlds, because SSR gives us a longer contract.

Location...
You don't ever want to feel disappointed because you "have" to stay at a resort you don't really like.:confused3
If you do a spreadsheet on amortized cost over time, you will be amazed how much closer the actual costs are per point. When you look at a $.50-$2.00 per point differential over time, the price is less significant than having your "dream resort" IMHO.

I agree with the concensus on location but for a different reason. We like all the resorts but we also stay at Grand Villas most often. That is why my family & I own at OKW and SSR. We really like all the room it gives us and even if DH & I have 2 more kids we'll all still be able to fit in a GV. :)

We bought our SSR contract from my BFF's father - we still went through a broker. Was just easier as you still have to file paperwork process.

We bought because of location. It was on Disney property :rotfl:

When we bought there was no choice and I have never regretted it. It does annoy me though all the people going my DVC is better than your DVC, :cheer2: but that is human nature.

If you are the type that covets what other people have the decision is important and almost always wrong. There will always be a better one. Even if they stop building that will probably be true. We will start arguing over whose DVC is aging better.:worship:

I suggest you pick one you like and buy in. When making reservations at 7 months I have at times not gotten the resort I wanted but always got one I enjoyed.

The pickier you are the less choices you have in life.

Well said! When we were looking for a resale we had a specific home resort in mind. In an ironic twist we found a resale deal that was too good to pass up but was not our desire for a home resort. In fact it wasn't even on our short list. We bought the resale and have had no regrets. It has been a happy accident that has provided us with years of joy.

We are interested in purchasing a resale and are torn between buying at the resort we love, picking a resale that is cheapest, or choosing one with the longest "expiration date".

We don't book our vacations 11 months out--typically within the 7 month timeframe or less. We do have a particular dvc location that we alway stay at when we rent. It would be nice to have it longer to pass on to my daughter....decisions, decisions, decisions.

Don't know which way to go, but starting to lean towards cheapest since we don't need the long booking window. What did you do???

We also bought because of location - BCV 2002, added 2 more times to BCV then bought SSR. We have never stayed at SSR, but have had no problems using our points. We usually go off season which makes it alot easier to get reservations.

When we first purchased we were always banking, we added on so we could bring extended family and its also very addictive. Next year we are going to Ireland ABD - 3yrs of points...I recommend buying where you want to stay.

When I bought they were offering AKV and BLT, I opted for AKV because of the cost. They werent offering any discounts at BLT. I really do enjoy AKV but always wished that I bought at BLT (mainly because I love MK). So to solve my problem I just added 100 pts to BLT last week on my cruise!!! So excited!

All my purchases were dictated primarily by LOCATION.

We made up our minds to buy, and wanted to go through Disney for the financing. Price was the deciding factor. We bought at AKV, and love it, but none of us would care where we stayed so long as it was at WDW ;)
