I made reservations today for Dec. @BLT. This ended up being 448 points. I have 160 per use year. 2011 points had to be used by Nov, so they were no good for this trip. By my calculations it should be:
160 for 2012
160 for 2013 (borrowed)
320 would be the total used...short by 128 points.

According to MS I have 32 points left in 2013. Am I missing something here?

I would guess that your 160 2011 points were banked into 2012 for a total of 320. They borrowed 128 points from 2013, leaving 32 points in 2013.

Agreed.

Normally MS will tell you what they are doing as far as banking and borrowing and that they are transactions that can't be reversed.

Thats what I thought to, but they would not take the banked points from 2011. I actually called later and used those for a June vacation because we didn't want to loose them. Still have 22 banked 2011 points left.

Are you certain those aren't actually 2010 points banked in to your 2011 UY? That's what it sounds like if MS said you couldn't bank them. And then they banked the 2011 points, used 2012 points and borrowed from 2013 for the Dec reservation. The only way to get the total amount of points you needed for the Dec stay is to use from 3 UY's unless you had other points transferred in.

Is your use-year December? In that case, you're caught up in the common confusion that involves that use-year. From a points standpoint, it is still going to be 2011 for another 10 months. "Banked 2011 points" couldn't be used for a vacation this June - they had to be banked 2010 points. Banked 2011 points aren't eligible to be used until a stay after December 1, 2012.

Exactly. Dec UYs are funny because everyone else is at the end of the Calendar year and you are just starting the year. OP, you just started your Dec 2011 UY last month and will be in that UY until Nov 30, 2012.

Did you buy recently, ? before the UY ended. I'm assuming you have a Dec UY. It sounds like you had 160 points banked from 2010 to 2011. Then they banked the 2011 points to 2012 and borrowed points from 2013.
