How did he propose?

Now that you told me how long you were dating before you got engaged (a previous post), I want to know how he (or you) proposed? Was it a Disney proposal?

Not a Disney proposal - our first time in Disney together will be for the honeymoon :goodvibes

We were on a cruise together, it was a 7 day cruise. On the second to last day, we had a "formal" dinner, so we got to get all dressed up and everything. We ate dinner, and then when it came time for dessert the waiter said, "we have a special dessert for you tonight." And he brought out a cake, and it said "Will you marry me me?" on it, and DF got down on one knee, and it was cute, and everything is kind of a blur, but apparently I was so hasty to accept that I said yes before he had even finished his little speech!

There's also a funny part to this story: earlier in the week we had received two other "special" desserts. It turned out that Jason's uncle sent us two cakes at dinner, just as a Bon Voyage present. So this is the third night we were getting a special cake, so I didn't expect anything at all - I was just like, "geez, Jason, how much cake is your uncle going to give to us??" :rotfl2: And it turns out that the first night that happened Jason was freaking out, thinking they were bringing his cake on the wrong night - he had no idea his uncle was doing that!

My husband proposed to me during the Epcot fireworks back in May of 1992. It was actually Mother's day. My family was at Disney with us. But not during the proposal. So my Mom got a new son on Mother's day!

Kory and I are huge Disney fans. We live in Windermere, right on the back side of the Magic Kingdom. He is a full time cast member in a role with office and technical and I am a seasonal cast member at The Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Every year we go to see the Spectacle of Dancing Lights at the Studios and this year was no different. So on Dec 19th, we went. Kory knows that I love having our pictures taken by the photopass people so he asked if I wanted to get in line to have our pictures taken there. Of course I said yes. So we got in line and when it was our turn, we gave our camera to the photopass people and got in place and then he said "Hold on" and bent down to tie his shoe. He had been having problems with his shoelaces all night and when he did it then, I said "Really??" and kind of got an attitude. Well, apparently he had the ring box hidden there. He pulled out the box, opened it and said "Andrea, will you marry me?" and all the time, the photopass people were taking pictures with my camera and their camera. So it was all on tape! Apparently, I was so into making sure I said yes, that I forgot to give him my hand to put the ring on!

My DF surprised me with a long weekend in WDW (he even called my two bosses and asked for Monday off!!:lovestruc). He literally announced the surprise trip less than 8 hours before our plane took off!:scared1:

We went to MK our first night there. Ate at Tony's, watched Wishes, Spectro, etc...he said he tried to propose several times, but the timing just wasn't right (Tony's was loud, Spectro was too crowded, Wishes was really annoying as we were stuck standing next to an extremely rude family with totally obnoxious children:sad2:). Finally, after the park announced it's closing for the evening at midnight, he suggested that we take one more peek at the castle before we left. We walked up to the front of the tunnel entrance to Fantasyland and he proposed right there. There was not a soul in sight, except a custodial worker out in the distance near the carousel, & it was PERFECT!! We took a picture of the spot before we left and we framed it. I could not have asked for a more perfect proposal :)

My partner (of nine years now) and I had been looking at rings once we had been together about 2 years but he wasn't divorced so I didn't want to get engaged then the price of diamonds shot up so we put the idea on hold for a little while. One day when we had been together 3 years he come home after a week of working away kneeled down next to me whilst I was sitting on the couch he gave me a jewelwey box but it wasn't the right shape it was about the size of a credit card and about an inch thick. Then he said "yes it is what you think it is". I opened the box and there was the most beautiful sparkling diamond PENDANT!!!!!!!!!:scared1: It is the nicest thing I have ever owned but deep down I was so disappointed. :confused3

So I left the issue for a couple of years then as we were nearing our fifth anniversary I mentioned engagement. We moved in to our first home (he finally had a job close by and didn't have to live away five days a week) our fifth anniversary came and went still no ring. He promised me I'd have one in three months but just a few days before we were due o go ring shopping I lost my job . I didn't find a job for another six months but when I did once we had got Christmas over and done with I started paying for everything I could manage and doing every extra shift I could get to give him opportunity to save for a ring. He promised me that I'd have one by the end of February, them march then he said I'd have one by his birthday (15th of May) his birthday came and went with another promise for the next month still no ring :mad::mad::mad::mad:!!!!!!

I was really upset because we had been together six and a half years and we hadn't even started making plans to get married. I really wanted to be married before we had children but it looked like that would never happen so we decided to try for a baby. I was upset that we hadn't got married first but we had been together six and a half years and although I wasn't worried about my biological clock I wasn't 18 anymore and he was 35 I felt if we didn't try now I'd be waiting for something that would never happen. I got pregnant in the October and I was sick to death of the "engagement issue" then when we were Christmas shopping I saw a nice fairly inexpensive ring he looked at it and agreed that it was nice and was just about to make a promise to get it for me but I didn't want to hear it. I'd had my hope dashed too many times. Then the next week we were shopping in the same place I had been back to the counter to "visit" the ring when he asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I told him I wanted the ring and it was like a light had been switched on we went to order the ring. The next week when we went to pick it up we stopped off at woolworths and I figured what's the point in being pregnant if you can't have a treat so I got one of those big pick n mix cups.

When we were at home I was sitting on the couch eating a jelly snake when he finally asked me to marry him :cheer2::thumbsup2. It had taken nearly seven years and a pregnancy to get the what wasn't the world's most romantic proposal but we were finally engaged.

We now have a beautiful 20 month old daughter and aren't really any further forward with wedding plans but that's another issue. I'm sure it isn't this hard for everyone else.

DH and I were together almost 2 years when he proposed. We always go to Disney the beginning of Dec. and that year his family was with us. We made reservations at Chef Mickey's for 7pm. It was funny because DH was getting ready that day and asked how he looked. He never asks that :rotfl: Then when we arrived at Chef Mickey's my DD was going to sit next to me and he asked her not to :confused3 The only people who knew about the proposal were his parents and my parents. His brother/SIL did not know anything and were as surprised as I was. My SIL told Mickey and his friends and Pluto had DH get on one knee again to reenact it.

I was just after our 5th anniversary on the Disney Wonder. I had read about secret deck 7 on DIS and was excited to check it out, we walked down there but it was just past the time that it was closed. I was peaking outside when a CM officer walked by. Alex secretly showed him the ring box and he opened the door for us to go out. He proposed there just as the sun was setting. We tried to find the CM later in our cruise to thank him but never got the chance.

We were together about a year and a half when he proposed.

We met at a mutual friends BBQ. We spent hours talking there, and when it was over, instead of going home he asked if I wanted to go to Steak n' Shake and get something to eat. Well, we literally sat in that diner talking until 7am. :)

The night he actually proposed did not start off to well. I had plans with a friend of mine to go watch a movie on the lawn (Fiddler on the Roof) at the Performing Arts Center. Well, he decided that he was going to come too, and then he proceeded to nap through the entire movie. :lmao: After it was over and we dropped her off I was ready to go home and go to bed (it was around midnight at this point), but he kept insisting that he wanted a milkshake and he wanted to go to Steak n' Shake. So naturally I got annoyed and finally agreed to stop. We get there and he refused to go through the drive-through and insisted that we go in and sit down. We sat there for about a half hour with me asking every five minutes if he was done yet. :lmao: We finally got ready to leave, we walked outside and he got down on one knee and asked me. He had planned it where he was wearing the same clothes that he wore the day we met, we sat in the same booth in the diner, and the place where he actually got down on one knee was where he had hugged me the first time. He's a total softy sometimes. :lovestruc

We actually had a few of our engagement photos taken there. This is us in "our" booth.

aww, I love hearing all your engagement stories! Here's mine...

Me & James had been together for 6 months when he asked me the magical question. We planned to take our first holiday together in October 2008. With us having a combined love for Disney/rollercoasters we decided to go Disneyland Paris.

At somepoint before we went I remember us being sat in a pub with my friend Becca, who innocently said "wouldn't it be great if you got engaged in Disney?" I didn't see James's face... apparently it was a picture!

When I was at work my (then) manager Mandy kept asking me random questions like "What kind of ring do you like?" "What size is your ring finger? It looks the same as my daughters middle finger and I want to suprise her with a ring" - very tactful

anyway.. we went to Paris got to Disney, checked into the hotel and went over to the Magic Kingdom. The first place we headed for was the castle. I love that castle! I love it even more now :rotfl:

The moment we reached the castle, we stood on this 'balcony' type area and James dropped to one knee. He had this speech and held the ring out. Of course I said yes ;) There were loads of people watching, clapping and 'aww'ing. It was wonderful

This is the balcony thing and my ring.

I just got engaged last Friday night!!!! We have always known we wanted a Disney wedding so we booked our date before I actually was engaged hehe. I knew he had bought a ring about a month ago but I had noooo clue when he was going to do it. I was on pins and needles every single day. Last Friday we had our site visit with Kristi. On Thursday night he told me to pack a bag but wouldn't let me know anything else. Of course this was hard so I brought like 5 oufits and tons of shoe options because I had no idea where we were going. We live in Orlando so I didnt think it would be too far. After our planning session we had lunch with my mother at Downtown Disney. Little did I know that he had the ring in his pocket all day :) We went and played miniature golf then we drove across to the Swan and Dolphin. I asked him if we were staying there and he still wouldnt tell me anything! When the bellman asked if we were checking in my Fiance said yes. I was sooo happy that he had planned all this behind my back. I hate surprises and I'm like a little child I always try and snoop haha. We went to dinner on the Boardwalk then came back to the room. It was almost 9pm and I was really upset because I didnt think he was going to do it. Little did i know....5 min later the fireworks at Epcot were starting and he got down on one knee:cheer2:I was sobbing so hard I could hardly talk but I did get the word yes out of course! We went to Epcot the next day (another suprise) and I was thrilled that they gave us the just engaged buttons! My mom tricked me big time also. She said he had not spoken to her about asking for my hand in marriage but he had really taken her our to dinner a few nights earlier. Our wedding is May 27,2012 at the WP and reception at the GF. I cant wait to start my PJ!!!!

Congrats to all! I'm hoping to have a story of my own to add someday! We are approaching our 1 yr anniversary soon. Wish me luck!

We were going to Atlanta for the weekend to see a football game. We live in Pennsylvania. Once we were at the airport, Wayne, pulled out the printed itinerary and said he forgot to tell me that we had a layover.

In Orlando. For one day.

We walked into the Magic Kingdom and up to the castle. We posed for a Photopass photographer and he got down on one knee. I can't remember what he said because the tears were flowing and I tackled him.

On 9/18/10 DF made dinner and surprised me with the ring after we ate. He had purchased the ring a few days prior w/ plans to propose on our cruise vacation three weeks later. Apparantly, the ring burned a hole in his pocket, and he proposed that same night after picking it up  We're now planning our Castaway Cay wedding in May 2012.

I got engaged in May 04/2010 on a lovely mountain city called Campos do Jordão in São Paulo/Brazil.
We know each other for almost ten years and I must say my fiancee got me completely by surprise because I was not getting vibes he wanted to compromise...:rotfl:
So we were at this lovely restaurant called Davos to have dinner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-qJRI5P-9o) and before our meal came in he showed me the black little box with a silver bow tied and ask me to be his wife!:cloud9:
See my radiant smile!

Our wedding will be here in Brazil in 40 days from today!:bride:
Our Honeymoon will be at WDW in May 2011. We'll stay at Pop Century from 05/20 till 05/29.:woohoo:
See you!

these stories are so cute!!! dbf and i just celebrated our 3 year dating anniversary last week. i kind of coached him on how to propose haha. he asks me all the time if we're going to get married and i tell him yes but i refuse to make it official until i get a ring and i get it at disney! his answer is always the same: "i guess we'll have to keep going back to disney together then!"

All these engagement stories are so cute!!! I will now share mine...

So DH and I had planned to go to Orlando after I finished my law school finals in December of 2009. We had been together for a little over 2 years, and I knew that we would be getting married when I finished law school, and I was just waiting for a proposal!

We had recently gotten APs, and we were trying to find things off the beaten path to visit in each of the parks. Well one night, he asked me if I had ever seen Cinderella's Wishing Well. I told him that I hadn't, that I would love to try to find it. Over the next couple nights, he would say weird things - asking about tripods if no one was around to take a picture, and random other things - he is horrible about surprises!!! He even mentioned about how he was really nervous about asking my dad for my hand in marriage (I'm a big daddy's girl and DH finds my dad very intimidating).

I mentioned something to my best friend about him acting strange and that I thought maybe he was planning something, but my best friend assured me that I was just being paranoid, and that if anything was up she would know and she didn't know anything. (Man did she fool me!)

We were visiting the MK on December 13, 2009. We checked into CBR, and went to MK to meet up with my family (it was my niece's 3rd birthday). No one would answer their phones, so DH and I wandered around. We even went to Country Bear Jamboree (one of my favorites, but he HATES it)... I should've known something was up! I stopped to eat and call my parents again. He asked if I wanted to go find the wishing well. We were on our way when I spotted Lady Tremaine, Drisella, and Anastasia and I insisted on taking a picture with them. We then proceeded onto the wishing well and I took some pictures. He pulled a penny out of his pocket and told me to make a wish. I quickly wished for my happily ever after and threw the penny in the well. He looked at me and said "Close your eyes and make your wish again." I rolled my eyes and made my wish again. When I opened them... he was down on one knee!!!

Well this is when I started to freak out! I couldn't believe he was proposing and I started screaming "NO! NO! NO!" Now with these nos, I meant no I can't believe you are doing this, not no I will not marry you (luckily he knew that I was just surprised). I barely let him say anything before I grabbed the ring and started kissing him. He finally got out "Will you marry me?" and I was just so excited and finally said yes.

So yes, he had this great proposal and I ruined it!!! LOL.

he would say weird things - asking about tripods if no one was around to take a picture

KMS - it's so funny you mentioned that. DBF mentioned this weekend that he was thinking about bringing a tripod on our Alaskan cruise in case no one was around to take a picture!
