How crowded is MK during the Christmas Parade filming?

I've got two Magic Kingdom mornings planned during the period when they'll likely be filming the Christmas Parade (Dec 3 to 6, I think).

We've got no problem getting there by rope drop, and we're not terribly interested in the parade or any of the entertainers. So my plan is to try to just avoid the castle and Main Street and focus on the rides.

Will this work? Is it a good plan? How busy will MK be?

It is a great plan. We have done this twice and the rest of MK had very reasonable crowds. Just stay far away from main street.

ETA - the big tree doesn't go up until after the taping, so try to visit MK at least once after the tree goes up if you have not seen it before.

We'll be missing the tree this year, unless they manage to wrap up filming and put it up on the 6th. But I'm not disappointed! It'll be awesome just being there.

As the others said avoid Main Street and you'll be fine. I did want to add that if taking a ride around the park on the train is a must do for someone in your party do it first. They don't run the train during the taping.

Oh, thanks for the tip! The train is actually one of our favourite things. I'll make sure we do it first thing.

When do they announce which day the taping will be? Is it usually on a certain day (like Saturdays)?

They used to tape it on the first weekend in December but they moved it to Monday in 2014, so I have no idea what to expect this year.

My daughter is performing for the parade taping and they have not given us a specific day yet. We were just told that it could be anywhere from Dec 4th-7th. I'm sure they have to have a few possible days to allow for weather.
