How crowded are the parks on New Years Day?

We had a change of plans and now are going to be in DisneyWorld on December 31st. I have NO intentions of even attempting to go to a park on NYE but what about New Years Day? Are the parks still crowded with long lines?
Just looking for some feedback.....Thanks!

We got to Epcot around 2 pm on NYD 2005 for the first day of our trip and the fact that I don't have any vivid memories of it tells me that the crowd level was unremarkable, certainly no worse than for our usual early March trips. That night we hit PI and easily got a seat for the first Comedy Warehouse show and once again, no memory of crowding means no bad crowds. I dislike being sardined and jostled so I would have remembered.

Two years ago, our last day was New Year's Day. We did Epcot. We all were saying "where the heck did everyone go?" VERY low crowds. I put in my trip report that I think everyone had hangovers. I think Future World echoed.

Not so many people... between the hangovers , the bowl games on tv , and the live bowl games (aren't there like 3 within a close distance) it really clears out.

Everyone is tired from staying up late the night before and they decide to sleep in. We went to the Magic Kingdom on New Year's Day 2006 and it was great until about 11 and even then it wasn't too bad.

We have been there a couple of times on New Year's Day. Both times it was the MK and both times it was EMPTY!
We, too, stayed in on NYE and got to the MK early. Our quess was that the vast majority of revelers were still in bed!

Wow! This is GREAT news for me, too. We will be at MK for New Year's Day and my son's 11th birthday.

Tamara, do you know that right now the park hours are 9AM to 11PM with EMHs until 2AM for MK that day? I was hoping that people would be too tired from the night before to attend the evening EMHs, but it sounds like the morning should be fine also!

We spent the morning at AK two years ago and each ride was basically walk-on. After having a nice lunch at Rainforest Cafe, with no ADRs, we headed to DTD. A different story here. I guess because it was the afternoon, its free to go there and doesn't use a park ticket, and lots of men where home watching football, this was the place to go. It was just a last-minute stop before heading to the airport for us, though.

This thread makes me wish we'd be staying until later on New Year's Day again. We've all got work and school on the 2nd, so decided to head home in the evening on NYE and avoid the chaos all together this time around. Here's hoping AK won't be too crowded in the morning/early afternoon on NYE!!!!!!

It has been 11PM ever since I've been checking into this trip. At least a couple of months now.

I'm also very happy to read this... we were suppose to be there on the 2nd of Jan... but got good deals for airfare for Dec 31st... but we will just be relaxing at CS and having diner at Rainforest Cafe that day... and going to bed early with the kids... but the next day, should be very fun at MK can't wait to go!!!!!! I had no problems on Jan 1, 2006, went to Animal Kingdom for EMH and rode everything big in 1.5 hours. then went back to the room for a nap, and then Magic kingdom from noon-3am. It never seemed to get really crowded. We stayed for EMH that evening and didn't see big crowds either.(I saw worse crowds Labor Day weekend 06 at Epcot eEMH) This year we have the same plans for NYD after Epcot and MGM(midnight-2am) on NYE.

Magic Kingdom does have EMH on Jan 1 in the evening.

This really is great news! We will definitely be at the MK on New Years morning and hopefully again that night with the EMH scheduled. I am so glad we switched our reservation now.
Another thing that concerns me is that I wasn't able to get an ADR for dinner at Chef Mickey's for NY night. There was nothing available for any time. I thought that was kind of strange.

great news, my 40th birthday is 01/01/07, so we will be there! We want to go to MGM to catch RR before the refurbishment. We are having a cold snap right now, but we had our a/c on 3 days ago.
