how crazy are the auditions...

My son is auditioning this weekend. I have a few questions I hope someone that has been thru it before can help us with.
1)should we get there very early before sign in?
2) Will he stand in line to wait to sign in?
3) Should I plan on sticking around, or should I plan to meet a friend for lunch?
4) Do they take each of you individually or as a group?
5) When they list a "start" and "end" time, are they pretty accurate?

We are driving about 6 hours, so the time issue is important.

And to all of you who are auditioning this weekend (or at another time) ... break a leg.

1) I auditioned in Minneapolis and I got there an hour early, but it was a waste since everyone just had to wait until the casting directors let us in. If you are half an hour early, you'll have more than enough time.

2) As far as standing in line goes, the casting directors let us into the waiting room, and then they explain some stuff about the audition and you fill out some paperwork. When you finish the paperwork, then you wait in line to turn it in and get a number. But it makes no difference if you're there early or not, since everyone has to listen to their spiel first.

3) All Disney auditions are closed so no one who is not auditioning is allowed. Too distracting

4) For our audition, they told us about the animation section and then the dance section. We spent a good deal of time practicing as a group (as in every person AT the audition) both portions. After that, they break you into smaller groups for the actual audition. You're never by yourself.

5) The start time is dead on. Make sure you ARE there when it starts, it just doesn't have to be excessively early. Although in your case, since you're coming from so far away, it's probably not a bad idea to give yourselves a cushion of an hour or so. The end time depends on how many people show up for the audition. Mine lasted 3 hours.

I don't know yet!! When we finished the audition, the casting directors told us it would be about 4 weeks before we heard anything, since they had to finish the audition tour and then go back to Orlando to make a decision with the other casting directors. So it's pretty nerve-wracking, to say the least. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Good luck to your son and tell him to S-M-I-L-E at all times! That's the one thing the casting directors emphasized more than anything else!

My son changed his mind. Maybe next time. He said several reasons he didn't want to try out this time. So.... I am behind him.

Hi Dee!!! Well in Philly today it was different than in MN. Today they divided the group into 1-50 and 50 through however many were there. My daughter was in the 2nd group ..she was number 55. One group went into one room and the other group went into another room. They taught them a SIMPLE.... VERY SIMPLE pedestrian/stroll with a turn. VERY SIMPLE....she got cut the first round. She was quite shocked. She has been dancing since she was 3. She is still dancing in college and just last night had performed in a big sorority event. She said that their dance was far more involved than this simple 8 count today. She said that they filled out NO PAPERWORK at all. They were just given a number to start with. THEN...the people that made it thru the first cut...would do the paperwork and have a head shot done. She is 5 feet 5 inches and after getting home tonight and posting on the FB page for the CP Hopefuls who are auditioning....she was told that she probably didn't get it because she is considered DEAD HEIGHT....meaning there are very few character roles except for Princess in that range and you have to be able to fit in a FUR character costume too". Today they were told they were NOT PULLING any face characters, that anyone that made it through would be doing FUR and that if they did decide to give you a FACE based on the audition and picture they took....you would still do FUR. They told them that they would not be dividing the group into FACE and FUR. Now whether that happened after first cut..she does not know. She said it was heavily emphasized about DOING FUR. They were also told that if you are planning on getting to Orlando and auditioning for a "parade" role that more than likely those auditions would have already taken place by Jan. when these CP kids arrive.

She went into this audition not even sure she wanted to do a fur character, but didn't want to NOT try out because she thought she might regret it down the road. Other than being shocked she got cut right off the bat..she is fine. She is still in the program and was happy with the role that was offered her before she even made the decision to audition. It seems that each audition/city it is held in, is different. At least from what she continues to read on this FB page she has joined.

That shocks me as well but the dead height thing does make sense. Makes me glad I'm about an inch and a half taller than that! Also I'm glad she is okay, and im glad she ended up going, cuz id regret not going too! Actually I do wish I would have auditioned for my first program, but at that time, they didn't offer you another role beforehand, so I didn't want to risk it. And I'm glad I was where I was because I made amazing friendships! I did "pass" the audition for extensions, but that's a whole other story there that I think I've already posted a couple times on this board about it. Lol

They are running things a bit differently this season. In the past, you would have filled out paperwork and then the whole group would have learned the dance and animation. Something you should know is that Disney has a six month rule when it comes to auditioning. If your daughter had done the paperwork, done the full audition, and not passed because they didn't need anyone in her height range, she would have wasted her time and the opportunity to audition again for another six months. However, if they hold an audition in three months or so and they do need her height range, because she filled out no paperwork, she is free to audition again (and hopefully make it!). I think they do the short 2 sets of 8 routine so people can have the experience of auditioning so they feel more comfortable next time.

I wish your son the best of luck! I just got accepted into the college program as a character performer, idk haha it seemed like fun so I'll hopefully be going to WDW this summer I auditioned in minneapolis, MN. Tips on the audition, just relax and be as obnoxious and silly as possible. They want to see you go out of your comfort zone and have fun! I can't dance worth anything and they still hired me because I laughed at myself when I goofed up. The time is pretty long, it took about 3 hours for the whole thing. Just tell your son to relax and don't make it a big deal auditing. Exaggerate all the motions and make everything look like your doing it BIG. He'll be fine! Good luck to him!
