How could I do this ??

Hi,

I would like to make a reservation for the beginning of december at OKW, but I will not be a DVC member for about 6 more weeks since the closing process has just begun.

I know that if I wait until then, there are about no chances that this is still available. I first thought that I could make a cash reservation now and finaly pay with my points when I receive my member number but it seems that I can't do this.

Is there a way I could solve this problem ?

Thanks !! ;)

Congratulations on your purchase!

I encourage you to "not give up hope." I don't think there's really anything you can do now, but it's not unthinkable that you may be able to find something at OKW for the time period you're looking for.

Many have reported great success with the waitlist.

Also - you've got a unique situation this year with the opening of BCV. As more and more is sold there, more rooms will be declared into member inventory, and more and more reservations will open up. As many are excited try the new resort, you may find many cancellations at the other DVC properties.

Lastly, if you really want to visit during this time, you may choose to use your points to stay at one of the other WDW resorts. It's not the best use of points - but, at least, it will get you onto property.

Best of luck!

Should you be buying thru Disney – contact your guide and have him or her assist with this reservation.

Consider this - have another member make the reservation for you, in your name, using their points (i.e., a standard rental arrangement). Then, when you close, transfer the same number of your new points back to that member. You may have to offer a point or dollar inducement to the member, but it seems that there are plenty of members on the rent/trade board with excess points, so one may go for it.

Good Luck !

This is difficult; we also joined recently and faced the same situation.

We got an OKW 1-bedroom in early Dec at the beginning of June, and were able to move the dates just last week. Judging by the sound of the CM's voice, I don't think there is much left at this point. However we are also waitlisted at BCV, so if we get it, there will be a corresponding opening at OKW. If so, may you be the one to get it!

I think you do need a plan B. Consider that the non-DVC resorts generally have lots of space AND terrific rates in early Dec. So pick your favorite, and be prepared to bank or rent your points for this year. (While you can use points at non-DVC resorts, I recommend avoiding that if possible.) It helps if your use year begins late in the year as then you can wait before deciding whether to bank points.

I second the recommendation bres@westernMA made. We couldn't get in when we wanted because the paperwork took a while. I called our guide and magically an opening was found!

When we were waiting to close, we were able to make a reservation. We were told by MS that we could make a reservation as long as we were only using our current use year.

shelly3girls...

Which steps of the process were done ???

I was told that when Disney makes the final transfer, they cancel the existing reservations

I am not sure exactly what you mean, but this is how we did it. I called MS to see if we had closed since we were over a week past the original closing date. MS reserved a room in our name. When we actually closed they assigned the points to the reservation. It was explained to me that the room was basically "held" in our name with the reservation confirmed after we closed. We did not have a reservation made with cash. I do not know if we were allowed to do this since our contract was expected to close within a few days, or if this is always the policy.

I would call your guide and have them help you also. I don't think we had closed yet when our guide gave us our membership number and I called and made ressies. Also our use year doesn't start until Sept 2002 but you can make ressies as long as the points will be there when you go. Good luck and welcome home.

Thanks to everyone...

Who will my guide be ?? Will it be the guy who was there when we made the tour last september despite the fact we are buying a resale ?

Your guide will stay the same (unless you request a change). However, your guide will not be able to help you make a reservation if you are buying resale. Those who recommend that you call your guide for help (or MS to "make and hold" a ressie) either did not catch that you are buying resale or did not know that the resale process is different from buying direct. Guides and MS can help with ressies before closing ONLY if you are buying direct from Disney.

You will have to wait until you are in the system to call MS for a ressie. That usually takes about a week after you close.

My advice (which is the same as some of the other posters) is to make a back up ressie for cash now. That way you will have a place to stay if things don't work out. As soon as you are able, call MS to make a ressie. Get on the waitlist if you can't get the days you want when you call. There is still time for the waitlist to work. If there is no chance that you will get a ressie, MS will not allow you to go on the waitlist.

Good luck!

Ahhhhhh! Sorry, I missed that you were buying a resale. We bought BCV directly from Disney. Sorry for the confusion!
