How come you don't move?

Ever so often you see threads about where would you live if you could live anywhere. Many of you answer that you would live somewhere else. So why don't people move to their "dream place"?

For DH and I, we would LOVE to move to the mountains. We have talked about it many times, his job even has a office in Colorado and I'm sure they would need teachers somewhere near there. But we never do it. We can't leave our family. I'm an only child and that would be horrible for my mom and dad, as well as me. DH's dad is gone and he's the man of the family and wouldn't leave them. So unless the whole family decided to move I guess we are stuck here.

Sorry to ramble, but I'm really curious. Why don't you move?

I would love to live in Florida, I hate the cold but for now I am stuck here..I have 9 more years to put in at my job before I can retire at 50 years old...and even then I have to wait since I wouldn't pull my daughter out of school here to go to school in FLorida.

I want to live in the Phoenix area of Arizona. We don't move because we are greedy. My husband can't make the same living there as he does here.

I would if I could, in a heartbeat. Right now, I can't. I doubt my SO would ever move, too. He's lived on the same piece of dirt his entire life. I don't think he could handle moving.

I could never find a mortgage as cheap as what I've got. And I need to be even more careful with money now.

I love where I live (St. Louis)... I moved back here after being away for years and I am thrilled to be back with my friends. We just lucked out because DH headquarters is here... but with that being said we do not have any family in town and I would love it if my parents or brothers lived closer.

My husband would like to move to Las Vegas, but I am still here in Hawaii cause I want my daughter to grow up with grandparents, and also since I am going to take care of them as they get older. I'm not sure how things would be in Las Vegas or in the area we would move too, but the place that we are now is pretty safe and more relaxed.

Because it would cost a bloody fortune to move to my 'dream house'. My dream house is a sprawling white-columned Southern Plantation style mansion with a wraparound porch, rockers out front with requisite hounds beside/underneath them, huge backyard with horses and sheepses and cattle and all sorts of farm animals. :) I'll get there........some day.

Family.....work....

Hearth & home....

plus...i love it here!

In previous threads....i have made known how much I enjoy living here...

Even after retirement...I will always "come back home"...

My husband's job has tied us down for now at least. He's doing way too well financially and professionally to be able to start over again. But hopefully someday we can move on.

For the most part, I really like my job. The work, the people, everything. If I hated my job, I just might consider it.

I've lived here my whole life though, and I like being in familiar surroundings. My family is here, my friends are here, my church is here, and I just bought a townhouse about 18 mos. ago. And I like the weather. It never snows!!! I wish it were warm 12 months out of the year.

I just wish it weren't so expensive to live here. AND I wish it weren't so far from the World. ::MickeyMo

The number one reason is family! There are so many places that would be nice to leave, but I would not want to leave my family and friends so far behind, and only get to see them on holidays. I also still live with my parents and definitely don't have the money to move out on my own yet.

We actually did move to Florida when my oldest son was ready for kindergarten. Coral Springs.....just a beautiful town. Husband just started into the electrical field & the pay was low. He was promised a good paying job before we moved, but when we got down there, it didn't pan out.

We missed our families terribly, phone bills costing over $500 a month. I grew up with tons of aunts, uncles, cousins & friends of the family. I wanted that for my kids too. The kids were also unhappy being away from everyone, especially their grandparents.

We gave it a try for almost 1 year, but it didn't work out. It was just the wrong time of our life to do a move like that.

Eventually I want to go back, but not until my kids are grown & settled into their lives & I beg & plead with them to move there with us.;)

Well if dh ever gets offered a package that has total family retirement medical we are out of here. Our familys are deceased so nothing is holding us here except the huge benefits of the medical. DS asthma drugs alone would cost us a fortune each month etc.

Just as soon as the job search pays off, DH and I are out of here. We moved here 4 years ago and really miss the comforts of a larger city.

I would move to Florida in a heartbeat if my family went too. We all live in the same city, my parents just 1/2 mile around the corner from us. I couldnt give that up.

See I have it from an interesting perspective...

My parents are moving almost three hours away to thier retirment home next year.

My MIL has passed away

My FIL is possibly moving to Iowa. (He may propose to his girlfriend who is moving to Iowa)

My sister lives in the same state, a few towns away, but we hardly ever talk.

My BIL's and SIL's also live in the same state, but they also have thier own lives, and don't talk much.

So if I moved, it would be due to job reasons, not for family reasons.

I am in the same boat as Sonya...An only child with family committments.

Mommytotwo! If I lived in Hawaii, Las Vegas is the LAST place I would want to move to! I would move to Hawaii after parents are gone if it wasn't for the 6 month quarnteen for the dogs!
