How come I did not see any Magical Express Cast Members at baggage claim?

You mean to say that if intentionally untagged baggage doesn't show up, the guest should follow the procedure for guests who did not get their yellow tags, that is, go to the welcoming area and show the CM's the baggage claim checks?

NO If untagged baggage doesn't show up the passenger should immediately go to the airlines unclaimed luggage office and file a claim. Chances are the luggage didn't make the flight. At that point I'd probably ask the airline and the CM at the DME desk to ship my bags via DME. The bags would probably get to my room faster the the normal airline procedures.

The search function doesn't work great, I'M SURE THE TWO EXAMPLES I REMEMBER ARE EXCEPTIONS one group checked in at their home airport early. The airline sent the luggage down on an earlier flight. The other example was a family that stopped for a sit down lunch. Both families found out that a DME CM pulled the bags out of the unclaimed luggage office and sent the bags on to WDW. I don't know how common the procedure is, probably depends how many bags are in the unclaimed baggage office when the CM makes the rounds.

Sorry, I have to disagree. The DME Luggage Reps all have manifests with the names of all of the guests that are scheduled to arrive on that day. They are continously checking in the Baggage Service Offices of the airlines for any unclaimed bag that has a name that matches one on the manifest. When they find one they double check that it is one of their guests by calling to the DME Luggage office and have them check the reservation in the computer for any other information that may be matching (e.g. flight #, home address on personal ID, etc).

You are wrong, Sluggo. I have seen to many CM's around the offices with no passenger manifest and have been told by Delta office workers that luggage is not picked up unless the CM matches the passengers claim numbers with the bags.

The only Disney employees who carry a passenger manifest with them are the greeters. I sometimes doubt if they are even current. 5000 - 8000 names, at about 50 per page (a line for each passenger), on the manifest makes a big book. Over 100 computer printed pages each day. I have not yet seen the luggage CM carrying a book like that.

Ed, you can do a search, a couple of posters had their luggage pulled from the unclaimed luggage office. It happened exactly as described by Sluggo.

I agree with your point, as DME has become more popular it's probably less likely to happen. I don't care what a Delta employee told you. My guess is Delta is happy to rid of bags from the unclaimed baggage office. I suspect if DME says a passenger is listed as a DME passenger the baggage will get released.

How many passengers don't get to the carousel before the unclaimed bags are pulled? My guess is they're either passengers that forgot they had to use the yellow DME tag or passengers that didn't take the same flight as their baggage.

Edd, I don't think that I am wrong. Let me look in my side leg pocket. Yup, there is a manifest there. Does every single one of the luggage CM's have one at all times? No, they do share back and forth because they are all not searching the unclaimed bags at the same time. Next time you see a DME luggage CM, ask them what "sweeping the bags" means. Let me know what they say.

By the way, not only are the manifests up to date they are updated, reprinted, and distributed twice a day.

I will be watching for that. The only manifests I ever see are the ones the DME greeters have in their 8 x 11 books. I do know that they are "sweeping the floor" and it is my understanding they are looking for luggage with the Disney tags on them. I see that all the time. As many times as I have watched them I have never seen them get down and read each name off each bag and check to see if that name was on a roster. That would be a heck of a job, specifically if they went by U.S. Air or American during a busy period.

That actually is a complete waste of time. If Disney sets up regulations that state you must tag or carry your luggage. Than someone does neither and expects their luggage to appear at Disney. They find 5 or maybe even none unclaimed bags and spent 1 -2 hours looking for it. Can you imagine the time that is spent looking at each unclaimed bag and checking a roster to see if that bag goes to Disney, because someone didn't do the right thing. On A side alone I would bet at any given time there are 200 unclaimed bags in the airline offices that are on that side, maybe 10 offices. No wonder the Disney manager is watching her man hours so closely.

Edd, I am not sure who you were talking to, but the Airport Luggage Manager is a man. There is no one over him at the airport.

Sluggo

Sluggo,

I PM'ed the name of the lady I am talking about. The airport luggage manager must not know about the DME station manager. It would seem to me that would be a higher management position than just a luggage manager.

Edd,

I did not get your PM, so I PM'ed you.

1. I was bumped from my flight but somehow my checked bag with my swimsuit and toothbrush and no yellow tag went on the original flight.
2. I did not get yellow tags but am going directly from the gate to the ME welcoming area so will not see whether my bag never made the flight.
3. I go to Disney often but this time my Orlando trip is totally non-Disney and of course I have no yellow tags on my bags.
4. I decided to grab a bite at a food stand in the gate hub before taking the tram to the main terminal.

Only Edd's description will prevent screwups of any of the above.
