We'll be visiting Feb. 5th through 12th, and my DS's (8 & 10) both really really want to do Blizzard Beach. How cold can it be and still be relatively comfortable? And do they close the waterpark if it gets below a certain temp?
Thanks for any info. or experiences!

The water is heated, except water that falls like in a waterfall or something. For example, if you are on the raft ride the water will be a nice temperature but when you go under a water fall! :crazy2: It will be COLD.

I don't know if the close it or not. When my son was 7, my hubby and he headed out to BB even though it was rather cold. DD & I headed over to MGM - we were drinking hot chocolate there! But my DS had his heart so set on going to BB and the trip was just about over. So they went. Nothing was closed, but they were pretty much the only two there. Hubby said as long as you stayed in the water (as much underwater as possible :D ) you were fine, but the minute you came out it was freezing! They finally had to give up and leave. But the CMs at the gate could see the disappointment on my son's face, so they gave him a free insulated mug. The next trip is was warm (both were in Dec) so everybody got a whole day at BB then. I took from that experience that they would open it if it was scheduled to be open (?)

I don't think they ever close any WP due to cool temps, however, our family does not enjoy swimming when it is cool. It is impossible, especially at a WP, to just "stay under water." How could you do the slides and stuff? Also, how warm can they really get such large pools? Our family enjoys cool weather times of year for park stuff and HOT times for swimming. You would have the place to yourself though if it is cool.

In 5 trips taken in Feb, only one did we not do a water park. BUT your park days must be flexible. If you get there the 5th and the 6th is going to be warm, cancel whatever you had planned and do the water park. You might not get another opportunity. (Watch the long range forecast before you go)
IMO it needs to be 80 degrees outside to be comfortable at a water park. Last year, I took DD and a friend on a day it was 75 ish. While it was do-able, and certainly the kids didn't mind, I spent most of the day not getting wet because it was too cold when you got out of the water. That being said, there were moderate crowds. The warmer it gets, the busier it gets.

BB is a blast. There's a whole area just perfect for your boys. It's relatively contained, so if it was too cold for the rest of the family, you could probably wrap yourself in a towel and sit on a chair and just watch them while they did all the slides, and icebergs and "ski tows" and shivered .

Just a warning that when we were there in Dec 2000, BB did close due to cold weather. It was probably highs of about 62 that day, we called before we went and they told us they were open, we went over there and they'd closed due to low attendance because of the cold. I know we went over to WinterSummerland mini golf (or whatever it's called) and played - I don't remember if it was included in our ticket or free because BB was closed (we had the length of stay passes). We called and tried to go the next day (similar temps) and were told it was closed. I also posted a thread about this a bit back and was told it will close if crowds are too sparse! We're trying to go next week, but the weather forecast isn't looking too good :sad1: !

That depends on you!~

If you are from Wisconsin and 60 degrees is considered warm, then Blizzard Beach may not be out of the question.

However, if you are from Florida and like me, if the temp in the water is higher than the temp outside, you won't catch me near one of those water parks, or a pool!

Also, consider that the CM's working in the waterparks live in Florida.... yes... the water parks can close if the temps are too cold and the attendance very low. Call before going, if it is below about 65 degrees!

It is all pretty relative!
