How close is WL to the campgrounds?

We're staying at WL in June. My teenage DS wants to go cane pole fishing at Wilderness Campground. I see there's a jogging trail that runs between WL and the campground, and from the map it looks like this trail is the shortest way between the two resorts. Does anyone know how far this distance is? Is it an easy walk? Have any of you ever gone fishing at the campground. I've read that there are several places to fish at the campground. I realize that it's catch and release.

I think based on what Smanatha Brown said when she reviewed WL on her show Great Hotels, that the trail is about a mile or so. You can take the resort launch over there, you can actualy see the docks from each other. When we stayed at WL th elaunches seemed to run about every 10 minutes or so.

When we stayed at WL last time we rented bikes. I am not a good judge of distance but time wise it took us about 10 to 15 minutes to ride our bikes over there.

Yup, the path is abt a mile. It's not lite, so don't go after dark.

WL rents bikes. I don't know for sure, but would assume you could bike between the two. There are also the 2 boats. Large, green one, WL/FW/MK and small blue one, WL/CR/FW that come and go very frequently during the day. Also, the FW Orange, internal bus makes a stop at WL.

This reminds me of an interesting experience we had when we road the rental bikes back from the campground to WL. After we left the road and were riding on the walking path to WL, two deer crossed our path just in front of us. Not that seeing the deer itself was a big deal, since here in Connecticut there are more deer than people or so it seems some times. (Hit one with my car the other night by the way)

What was special was seeing the deer so close to the WL, it added to resort's theme.

Poor Bambi.

At certain times of day, the launch picks up first from WL and at others it picks up first from FW, so you might have to stop at MK on the way to FW.

Still not a bad way to go, but I'd hate stopping at MK and not getting off the launch!

it's an easy walk - and very nice! I'd say 15-20 minutes tops.

We just did it. I's a mile walk on a nice paved path to get to FW. It might be farther depending on where he wanted to walk to. We actually saw three large deer grazing on our walk. (Strange to see wilderness in the middle of WDW.)

If he was going to the beach area, boat would be fastest. There are also busses that run from WL to the campground area. Then there are busses that run within the campground.

:fish: Thanks everybody for the great info. I wonder if we can carry fishing tackle on the buses or boats? Is there a charge for fishing the canals or off the shore at the campgrounds? Last year at the POR fishing hole the CM said we could use our own gear but the charge would be the same ...that would be OK. I'm really not a fishing fanatic but my 2 boys love it ...so I fish.

While I've never done it, I'm sure you can carry the fishing gear on the launch.

The best FW fishing spot--get off the launch and walk towards the Settlement Trading Post. Go past the trading post and walk down the path between the trading post and the camping loop. It is the path that leads to the nature trail. You will come to a secluded beach area, cross over the bridge and you can see a little cabin. Good fishing spot, from what I've heard. Great spot to watch the sunset!!! You can see Space Mountain and Cindy's castle from this spot, too!
