How close does wildlife (animals not humans) come to your house?

I just had a herd of deer run past my window!! One of the neighbor's dogs must have startled them.

With our woods a few feet from the back of the house we get many creatures visiting us; racoons; possums, wild turkeys; all the regular birds and once we had a fox.

We have had deer and turkey come up to our back patio door. The turkey also like to attack vehicles.

We have backyard visits from opossum, skunks, raccoons, squirrels-whom we do feed, fox's', wild turkeys, chipmunks, and a ground hog looking animal pops up here and there. There is a wooded area behind our house, so the wild life is always passing through and we welcome their visits. Well, not so much the skunks, but they nice to watch from inside.

I have had deer and turkey on my porch when I lived in PA. Down here I love the Sand hill cranes that come up to the lanai.

My Dad counts sandhill cranes for the Michigan Audobon society. He keeps track of all birds for that matter. That's cool about your sandhill cranes coming that close. I'll have to tell him. :)

I forgot about skunks. I had one spray right underneath our bedroom window this summer. Woke me right up!!

We live in the woods on the lake so we see lots of deer, moose, raccoons, skunk, foxes, turkeys and others but the ones I hate the most is when the coyotes start howling. I know I'm inside and they can't harm me but their voices naturally produce the goose bumps on my arms.

I'm sorry to say that are development took away the home of a few deer. They took their time moving on. Lots of yards were visited on a daily basis in the interim.

We have deer in our area, and I have seen raccoons, skunks, birds etc.

I hear talk of there being coyotes & foxes around, but I live in a slightly more congested of my town than some other areas, so I have not encountered them. Folks I know who live a bit further "out" then I do have seen those as well.

There's talk of coyotes in our woods but I have never seen one. :paw:

a bunny lives in my garden when its not too cold out. Does that count? Her name is Mocah. I'm scared of bunnies(bad experience, county fair, long story), but she's scared of me. So that kinda works out. ;)

We see deer eating the grass in our back yard lots of times throughout the year, mostly doe, sometimes a fawn. There are rabbits that hop all over our yard and will come almost up to our front porch, same with chipmunks and squirrels. Lots of different kinds of birds. Also the one thing I hate most, snakes - poisonous snakes - one year we killed a timber rattler with 13 rattles and a button right at our back porch. Have also seen some wild turkeys and opposums, also know there are some skunks somewhere though we have never seen one, we sometimes get a whif of one in the area. Sometimes at night you might see a small fox or some coyotes as well.

Right now we have two ducks living under our front porch, but they are pets that my DH brought home last week. The last service call he went on Wednesday gave them to him - - along with another dog. So now we have 2 dogs and a puppy (I know, technically thats 3 dogs), a hamster that someone gave me last week, a turtle that someone gave me a month ago and 2 ducks. There are also several cats that hang around our house most days, can't really call them pets as the are to skiddish to let you get close enough to actually touch, but they eat scraps that the dogs leave, catch ground squirells, etc.

My DS loves it, he wants to be a zookeeper and would love to have a farm. Last year he told his teacher that our pig got loose and got in the house, etc., etc., etc. - we have never owned a pig. :confused3

We are in town so the only "wildlife" we get are squirrels and rabbits. There are all kinds of footprints all over the yard and under the windows where my plants were this summer.

My last home was on the edge of a wildlife preserve. I'd always see a herd of deer, at least 2x a week, often more. I think I saw as many as a dozen at a time. They'd walk right past my back patio door.

In my new neighborhood, it's too developed for deer, but I've seen foxes (one time there was one walking down the sidewalk at 5 in the afternoon, struting around like he/she owned the place!) possum, racoons, rabbits, squirels (tons of the little suckers) and hawks.

We have a lot of deer around our house. It's always an adventure getting to the main road because this huge herd of deer tend to wander around in the early morning. :teeth: If I'm flashing my headlights at oncoming traffic, it's not to signal a cop but to tell you to slow down so you don't run smack into a deer!

We have a little chipmunk that lives under our front porch. He sits out on the porch during the day. We've got rabbits, raccoons, and lots of birds in and out of the backyard.

DH came rushing in one day and asked me to take the dog because there was a dead raccoon under the row of pinetrees along the back yard. He came back in laughing and said, "Oops. That wasn't a raccoon. It was a possum. And they really do 'play possum.'" He'd gone back out to get rid of the 'racoon" and it had moved!

We did see a coyote crossing the road once. Forgot about that.

We get snakes, ducks, ibises, and possums (we are in the middle of the city). In the apartment we lived in before buying our house, we also got alligators out behind our apartment. My neighbor and I used to sit out on my patio and watch them. :earseek:

Even though we live in the middle of a small city, we've had squirrels, deer, and foxes in our backyard.

Are you also affraid of dust bunnies? My niece is.

I got bitten by my pet bunny when I was a little kid and we had to make a police report and at the end of the year our local newspaper reported that there were numerous dog bites but only one bunny bite that year.

Where we live now the houses are going up like crazy but we still occassionally have some bobcat and red tail fox walk past our house.

I had a moose in my driveway once. I walked right past him and didn't notice him until I closed my car door and he ran off.

We have seen:
squirrels, deer, turkey, fox, bobcat, rabbit, my dh would see coyotes when he drove to work in the early morning.
