How Clean are Disney Rooms:

After reading and hearing so much about how dirty hotel rooms are, it made me wonder how much cleaning they do at Disney. Does anyone really know? How often are the comforters washed? Do they really reuse the glasses in the bathroom after wiping them out? Those and all the other places they say are so dirty in most hotel rooms. Anyone out there have any ideas? Ours usually looks pretty good, but is it really?

I think the rooms are pretty clean. Sometimes they need an extra vacuum or dusting but overall they are good.

I don't use the glasses - I bring my own plastic ones from home. I always have done this when traveling.

I also don't use the comforters. I take them off the bed, fold them up and put them aside because I get too hot to sleep with them on the bed.

I don't drink coffee so I don't use the coffee pots.

You could always bring your cleaning supplies and clean yourself if you want. Not how I want to spend my vacation but my one sister does it when she isn't traveling in their RV.

I go 2-3 times a year and haze zero complaints about the cleanliness of the rooms. I've always been impressed.

As clean as any other hotel room which is ... Not very.

Some rooms/housekeepers are going to be better than other, but any hotel room--as countless Dateline NBC "investigative" reports will tell you--is going be pretty groddy if you look too closely, especially the soft furnishings and carpets which are not cleaned/replaced nearly as often as the traffic/usage would warrant, especially in someplace like Disney which has a higher hotel occupancy than your average locale.

The best advice for any traveler is, honestly, don't think about it too much. Or, conversely, don't leave home.

I've watched them clean the rooms and I think they do a great job. We ask to have the comforters washed before we check in because my DD has asthma and dust mites are her enemies.

But....seriously...if I fretted about how clean the hotel rooms were we'd never be able to travel for sports. We do the bed bug check before our luggage enters any hotel room, even at WDW, but other than that there isn't anything serious to worry about. Not as bad as shopping carts and airline seats for sure.

I have no knowledge of the rules of Disney cleaning - but - I do know that wherever we have stayed on Disney property I have been impressed with cleanliness.

We had a very sloppy housekeeper once while staying at POR, but we also stayed at the same resort with very good housekeepers.

I guess the cleanliness of your room depends on one thing - the work ethic of the person who cleaned it.

It is what it is. It's never going to be as clean as the standards in your own home, or be what you're used to. I'm a germ-a-phobe & could make myself INSANE in a hotel room. Every time I pick up the remote I could think "ok how many guests used the restroom, didn't wash their hands, then used this remote?" Every cup I use I could think "how many sick guests used this cup & what if it wasn't sanitized properly?"

If you're going to walk around & give the room the white glove treatment before you unpack, you may be disappointed. There can be water spots in the sink, fuzzies under the bed or dust on the desk anywhere from The Ritz Carlton to Super 8 Motel.

I tend to just let it go in a hotel room. Knock on wood, I've only come home from Disney sick ONCE in over 15 trips. That's a better record than livnig in my own home for 15 weeks straight!

There are different levels of cleanliness; while you will see some dust in some out of the way places, for the most part the rooms are very clean. If they didn't, you wouldn't see as many returning guests.

I bring wipes to use to wipe off some of the most used things, such as remotes, the tv buttons, etc. Luckily, one year they came in very handy when I traveled with two other companions and ended up getting bronchitis. Every time I got up and touched something, I used a wipe - thank goodness they never got sick.

Now as far as an extraordinary level of cleaning; I wouldn't expect it. I have a friend that won't even allow her children to go to a local amusement park because of all the things people touch. If you are going to go to that extreme, I would just stay home as well.

we have had clean rooms every time. I have read many reviews from other guests that have not had as much luck. For our 2009 trip, we requested a VIP cleaning due to my DStwins medical issues. The room was super clean.
We just returned today from our 2012 trip. We did not request a VIP cleaning this time and the room appeared just as clean.

Never had a problem at disney....rooms have always been clean. We also do the bed bug check! Eww!

odd question, i have a tempurpedic which cannot get these "bed bugs" what are they and how do i check for them?

As for the post/..... i generally place the glasses around the room with water so that the housekeepers have to change them out so i know im getting clean ones......other than that i lysol like heck before i touch remotes, faucets, etc.

First off ANY bed can get bed bugs as they do not "have" to live on the matresse itself they can be found ANYWHERE! on box springs, the folds in sheets, on or in headboards, dressers, end tables and even picture frames or on COUCHES they are not particular but prefer beds because thats where the next meal is located :scared1:

I suggest bringing a flashlight and looking especially on the corners of the bed, headboard and folds in the sheets even drawers

people have been know to bring bed bugs home on their clothes and second hand items as well as brand new clothing! They are everywhere

I've always been impressed with how clean everything at Disney is: rooms, parks, restaurants. Some of the buffets have been messy (but that's attributed to kids running around like lunatics with full plates and spilling). I was always happy with Mousekeeping and I'm a neat freak.

Until our trip this past October I had never had a room at Disney that felt unclean. When we first entered our room at CSR, there was a stale smell like it hadn't been used in a while and it was very very dusty. My kids allergies started acting up immediately. We headed on to the park and got back rather late and went straight to bed - we had been up since 3:00 am that morning. The following morning, I looked down between the bed and nightstand and there was a cotton ball there. But then I went to pick ds stuffed bear off the floor between the bed and wall and there was an open condom. I didn't bother with the phone - I hiked myself right up to the front desk and just happened to get a manager when I got up to the front of the line. Let me tell you our room was spotless when we returned later that afternoon and every day for the next 10 days and we had an abundance of toiletries and extra towels.

we've stayed at many of the Disney resorts, and it's totally hit and miss, with no discernible pattern. Have a dirty rooms at deluxe, and dirty rooms at values. Usually corrected quickly with a call to the front desk. Have never had a "perfect" room...Disney housekeeping seems to miss most dusting duties, somehow. Like the table will be dusted, but not the night stand or the tv cabinet:confused3

But same is true when we're traveling anywhere--hit & miss. We have been checked into some attrocious rooms (and asked for another room!) But mostly, anymore we stick with a couple of chains on the road that tend to have a better track record on cleanliness (Drury, and the Marriott hotels like Fairfields, and Residence Inns.) They're all usually acceptable, but not spotless by any means.

We usually pull the comforters off the beds at all Disney resorts...somehow, they all seem to weigh about 100 lbs...and way too hot, too.

As a germ-a-phobe and a person who stays in hotels for a living (I'm a flight attendant) you can be proactive, but you have to surrender to certain things. Germs are everywhere, even in the 5 star luxury resorts! Here is my routine:

1. I automatically check for bedbugs. (biggest tip: check the seams and piping of the mattress, if you see small black reddish spots that is excrement from a bedbug. EWWWW!!!! After freaking out, get a new room immediately!)

2. I peel back the comforter. You don't know the last time that thing was washed. (Google blacklight hotel comforter for more gruesome info.)

3. Inspect the sheets. Make sure they have been changed. I've found hairs, dirty band aids, and blood spots over the years. Pull them down, check out what your slipping into before it's too late. And don't forget the pillow cases. (Also, if they have a decorative pillow, that thing immediately gets tossed to the chair or couch. Not staying on my bed, no sir.)

4. Don't touch the floor with bare feet! I bring washable slippers. You have no idea what is lurking on that floor. (As previously mentioned, google blacklight hotel room for more info.)

5. I don't use the coffee maker if it has a carafe. I have no idea when that thing was cleaned. If they have the new kind in which your cup is the vessel (ie. Keurig) then I'll check to see if the machine is clean.

6. The remote. Oh the remote. That was found to be the most disgusting item in the room. Bring disenfecting wipes and clean it. Or, if you forget them, here is a handy tip. If you don't use the ice bucket, take the bag they give you for it and put it on like a mitten. Pick up the remote with that hand and turn the bag inside out and voila, your remote has a shield! :)

7. Toilet, I always give the seat a quick wipe down. Never hurts.

8. Tub. I check for strangers hairs and wash 'em away. I've been caught in the game of "follow that hair" while showering one to many times. It's not a fun game. :sad2:

9. This is my paranoia but I never leave my toothbrush out. Don't know if it is urban legend about housekeeping using a guest toothbrush to clean the toilet , but just the mere thought of it makes me shudder. I'll pack it away for safe keeping just to be sure. :cutie:

I know, I said you have to let go of some control, but after doing this for 15 years this routine is done in 5 minutes flat. Am I missing things? Sure --light switches anyone?? :rolleyes1 But at some point you have to surrender. This is just enough to protect myself without going overboard. :rotfl2:

Disney hotels usually been on the higher end of clean, but no hotel is spotless.

Flygirl-love your post! We always clean the remote and the toilet seat. I have known for years that comforters are one of the most dirty items in the room (after the remote). Also, everyone should also wipe down their phone. Wake up calls from Mickey (and Stitch) are probably heard by everyone. That phone has got to have a lot of germs on it. When it is something you are going to bring very close to your face, always give it a disinfecting wipe!!
