How can you override the AC setting in Resorts?

I tried a search to see if anyone had posted something about this, but I couldnt find anything. So does anyone know how to override the AC setting that Disney has set? We like it much cooler than than the Disney 65 degrees :thumbsup2

I had wondered the same thing after we were warm during out June 2005 trip.

When we returned in Nov. 2005, the air was VERY cool. We also had balloons, and I was up frequently during the night because I was pregnant.:)

Copied from other posts. Hope this works

"On the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow (that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. The maintenance man said that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours. We found that it stayed on bypass for a couple of days at a time. It was great to come back to a cold room or not wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat again. The CM that did this for us said it was not a problem doing this as they do it for people all the time. Guess they get a lot of complaints."
Yes, they are motion sensor activated and yes they do get warm unless you move around.

Now, I didn't tell you this:

The thermostat has two buttons on the left (ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN) and two buttons on the right (UP and DOWN)

1) Press the ON/OFF and AUTO/FAN buttons together. The digital display will change to 'CA'.

2) Press the ON/OFF and DOWN button together. The digital display will change to 'OR" (or something similar).

You have just deactivated the motion sensor. This will last for three days at which point you will have to repeat the process.

After reading the paragraph below (taken from the Allears web site), I too, was worried about the AC at POP since I prefer the Arctic Zone.

"Without motion in the room fairly regularly, the thermostat will default to a "shut off" position. The room becomes warmer than you'd like overnight, and you won't find a nice, cool, air-conditioned room upon returning from the parks on a hot day."

Now, here are some helpful (if not ingenious) tips I picked up from the "Talk Disney" message board:
*edited to say these comments were intended as lighthearted fun*

"Tigger2 says": "I'm getting a balloon to tie to a chair to keep the air on.."

"10 min to wdw" says: "just make sure the chair is near the air conditioner vent so while your gone the A/C system will keep it moving around."

And if you're thinking of keeping your Pop room thermostat at the lowest temperature setting (65 degrees?),
"Jeserin" says: "Nope, if you turn it all the way down you can blow a fuse and the whole thing shuts off... if you leave it about 68 it stays nice and cool.."

I definately need to remember this. I wonder if it works on the cruise ships also.

So if you fall asleep does the air conditioner get hot?

It stops running, so yes, the room gets warm. We used the Power button/temp down at CR this last week to override the sensor and it worked fine. We were not able to go below 65 F, so not sure if there is a way to do that. But, it was plenty cool enough especially if you set the fan to hi (not auto). I realize the benefit/savings of not having it on all day when you are not in your room but having it shut down at night while you are trying to sleep is cruel!

so what is the lowest temp anyone has set it to. To me Disney's 65 Degrees is about 73 degrees.

When I stayed at BCV, I looked my thermostat over top, bottom, sides, etc, and there was no power button to hold down. There was a button for ac/heat/fan (but no off setting), and the temp up and down buttons. I tried holding down the a/h/f button and treating it as if it were the on/off button, but no luck. So I'm guessing not all the thermostats are the same.

They need an am/pm timer in them as well, so it could be set to go off when no one is in the room during the day, but have a setting so it wouldn't go off at night when there are people there (but they aren't moving around).

Thanks for the replies, but I think the thread has went a different way than what I am trying to find out. I think the answers here are to override the motion sensors so that the AC stays at whatever temp you set it at.

But I guess what I should have been more clear about was how can you override it to set the temp lower than Disney's 65 degrees (the lowest possible temp).

Hope that made more sense. Thanks in advance.

I don't recall having this problem at OKW but, if I do next time at least I have a solution!:thumbsup2

I think if you are wanting it colder than the lowest possible setting, you might need to have maintenance come and do it. It may not be possible. I always travel with a fan, so if I can get it to 65 and use the fan, I'm usually OK (although the few resorts with thermostats that go below 65 I set below 65). They will probably want you to set it higher during the day, so make sure you find out how they do it, so you can re-do it each night.

Last year in July we were freezing in the room(CSR). Our AC never turned off. We could not seem to adjust it to a comfortable temp for us.

This past February I stayed at ASMo and it happened to be the coldest week of the winter. We had no trouble turning up the heat and keeping the room comfy.

We just returned from BC and had no trouble changing the AC. However, we were making it warmer - we thought the room was absolutely freezing!!! (There was no temp. reading on the thermostat?) It was simple to just turn the dial to "warmer." I am ashamed to admit that my kids were so cold on the first night, even with sweatshirts on under the covers, that I actually changed the setting to "heat" for a couple of hours and it warmed right up! After that, we were able to keep the A/C at a temp. that we could tolerate.
