Don't get me wrong I love WDW but I can't understand why anyone would go for up to 2 weeks?

I can't figure out what you are doing the whole time.

MGM - can easily be done in a day or less
Epcot - can be done in a day
MK - I like to go for a day plus and an additional night
Water parks - done in a day

Even if you spent another day doing downtown disney and hitting some of your favorite spots again you are still only looking at 5 full days.

If I went a week I'd hit Sea World and Universal too.

Wouldn't it be better to take 2, 7 day trips rather then 1 long one?

My first question to you is: Do you have children? When I take my kids, I am going to need at least a three hour break in the afternoon, for naps(downtime). That cuts a major whole in the day! So, I figure what takes us a full day without kids, will take us two days with kids!
Also, there is Animal Kingdom, which will take another day (or day and 1/2 with kids).

And don't forget, too, that it is a vacation,so I like a couple of days to just hang out by the pool, shop, etc.

So with 2 days for MK,1 1/2 days each for AK and MGM, 1 day for Epcot, 3 days for resting, one day for DTD, and finally 2 days for SW,USIOA,USF,etc. (And don't forget about travel days),That takes me to at least 12-14 days!!

If I didn't have two wonderful kids, I could probably be OK with 1 week.
:wave2:

We love park hopping and doing things over and over, so there is NO PROBLEM for us to make a 2 week trip and we dont even do the water parks. We enjoy our resort, hang out at the pool, spend time at Downtown Disney, we take time...people watch, enjoy the side entertainment and simply take life at a slower place, teaching our kids to not "commando" life. We hope that they will learn to enjoy and appreciate some of the smaller things in life along with the bigger ones..:bounce:

I can't believe I forgot AK.

And you are right, no kids yet but that will change on or around Nov 2!

I never thought about going to Disney and not going to the parks for a day or two to relax.

Trust me! You're going to need more than a week when that happens!

How can you go to Disney for more then 7 days?

Easy - a nine hour flight, 5 hour time difference and the cost ! :p

The flights cost the same for a 2 day trip as for a 2 month trip, we can take our time, enjoy the wonderful weather & relax in between visiting parks :D

Yep, kids change everything, lol! My kids can't handle more than two days in a row in the parks. It is too much stimulation for their little brains. So, rather than having their brains explode, we do 2 park days and then a down day (pool, relax, etc). Also, with two little ones (plus one more due in Nov.), we like to spend 3 days just in MK. AK is usually 1 day, MGM is 1 day, and Epcot could easily be 2 days. Personally, even without kids, I find it hard to see everything in Epcot in 1 day. So, that adds up to 7 park days without any down days right there. We do like to do Seaworld for a day also and then hit the beach for a few days on the way home to relax. We usually take a 2 1/2 week vacation, including the drive down and back, and it still doesn't seem like we have enough time to do everything.

I'd rather take a 2 week trip every 2-3 years v/s 1 week trip every year.

My parents took me as a child and ALWAYS went for two weeks. I'm the same way now. There is just too much to do and with children, you don't want to burn them out...

Between MK, AK, Epcot, MGM, next time we're doing Universal and the Cirque du Soleil show instead of Sea World. Also, I like DTD for the evenings.

My husband is in auto body and his job is ALWAYS "commando" style. I want his vacation to be a little less hectic. I know on park days it does seem "commando" style since I like to be an early starter.

On pool days, I'd spend morning at pool, then the evening at a show or DTD or vise versa. Again, there is just too much to do and to try to do everthing in one week would give you no down time.

Our next trip will be for 2006 or 2008, haven't decided yet...but I told my husband, "DD and I are going for 2 weeks, if you only want 1 week, you'll be flying back alone cause we're staying..."

I think he got the idea and wouldn't attempt to argue. I'm sure he agrees from the last trip (his first) that one week vacation to WDW is just impossible...

We have 3 kids 3,5,11 and 5 days in the park is way more than enough for us...Our schedule is kinda like this next week day 1 travel (we are coming into tampa _don't ask) dinner at Chef Mickeys, downtown disney. day 2 MK, day 3 Ecpcot, day 4 AK and outlet malls, day 5 SW, day 6 BB and MK day 7 tampa zoo and back home (late flight)/ We like to get in early afternoon the first day and out late afternoon the last day so we can do some non park things those days...We have done 10 days and that is way to long for us. I would rather skip a few things and have something to look forward to next time (we only do MGM maybe every 3 trips) On Mk and Epcot days we do not leave the parks for a break (sometimes we will leave our car at the park and hop on the monorail to the other park for a while. that ride alone is a nice little break). on AK days we will leave around 3 then go swim, rest, eat etc and then do some non park things...Not sure how seaworld will work this year as we haven't gone before..My kids are very energetic and even the young ones can keep on going. (my youngest can stay up til 10-11 with me when he gets a good nap during the day).that is what the strollers are for if they get tired they snooze (and they can and do take 1 1/2-2 hour naps in the strollers) and we use that time to go thru shops or do some things that my older daughter wants to do that the younger ones can't (space mountain, etc...) we take turns going on the big rides with her while the younger ones sleep. It may not work for everyone but it works for us and allows us to make the most of our days ..

LOL
Congrats but come back to this post after Nov. 2 and when you start planning your next trip with your child :)

For us, 7 nights is just not long enough but we don't limit ourselves to just WDW. We always go for 9 or 10 days and besides Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM and Animal Kingdom, we also do a water park, Sea World, Discovery Cove (not every year), Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. We squeeze Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island in on an early day (AK) and believe me, we BARELY have enough days. We use to go every year and now we do every other alternating with a Caribbean/AI Resort vacation. This was our year for being beach bums so next February, we are off again to WDW and DCL.

We go for so that we are there for 7 days. Two are the first and last days. We like to get there early and leave late, but still not much to be done on those days. We have five days for the parks. And, ideally, the next time I'd like to add an extra day in there just for doing nothing. We were very busy this last trip. VERY. My kids didin't need naps (well, they might have benefited from them but did great without). We weren't bored at all. In fact, every day of our trip DH and I were up by 7 and left our room by 8. We didn't get back to our room until midnight. I was pooped! My parents were with and watched the kids.

well, as someone else said, by the time I've flown over from the UK, I am not staying for any less than 2 weeks,

even then I have trouble fitting it all in.

We like to do Magic Kingdom many times - not all day every day, but we will be in the park at least 4 times, probably more. Epcot is at least a 2 visit park, again maybe more. MGM and AK probably get one full day and maybe a brief visit to redo some highlights.
then there are the water parks, and downtown disney, and Seaworld, and we could always do Universal/IOA if we got bored (LOL), not to mention the shopping, and the beach is only an hour away..... Heck, I could come for 3 or 4 weeks and not run out of things to do...

i do think if you come for a longer trip, and have an AP (or a 10 day pass which is available in the UK) then you approach the entire vacation from a competely different point of view. Its not all about doing a park in a day, it's about spending a couple of weeks with your family, dipping in and out of the parks as we fancy it - buying an AP or a 10 day pass has completely changed the way we approach our trip. if you have hoppers then there is a feeling that you must get your money's worth out of each day, so the tendency is to either spend the entire day in the park, or not visit the parks at all.

It's also worth noting, that it is very much a cultural thing for Brits to take a 2 week vacation, whether it be Orlando or Spain - we tend to go everywhere for 2 weeks - to such an extent that if you get a charter flight, some of them only fly to Orlando and back every 2 weeks.

(planning for her 2 weeks in October :)

Let's see -

MK - 3 mornings, 2 evenings
EPCOT - 2 mornings, 4 evenings
MGM - 2 mornings, 1 evening
AK - 2 mornings
DTD - 3 evenings
TL - 1 morning
BB - 1 morning

So, I've got us booked for 11 nights!

That's with my Hubby, and DD13 and DD10. As the kids get older, the trips get longer, LOL!

We went May 8-17. 8th being a travel day, and 17th being a travel day. leaving 8 full days. We did MK, EP, AK, MGM, BB, 1 full off day, back to MK, EP, 1/2 day MGM, we also saw Cirque, tried alot of great sit down restaurants, used the Silver Package (great choice). Took alot of breaks, so we wouldn't need a vacation from our vacation when we returned home. Had an 11 month old with us, always took an afternoon break for a good nap. Made life much easier, we told everyone it was for the baby, but the feet sure appreciated it. :D

I find it much more relaxing to extend by a few days, than trying to do everything in 5 days. We had a fantastic time, a trip that made alot of memories. Including my DGD walking for the first time in Cinderella's Castle waiting for dinner at CRT. Great memories. :goodvibes

Well, I have a 4 year old and I am on the opposite end as most of you. I prefer a 5 day trip. We take 1 day to drive there and another to drive home. Our first full day we do a park or 2, the next day is our down day where we don't go to a park, but go to a pool or have special meals, and the 3rd full day we hit another park. I think it is just right for us. Any more than that and we would both be "disneyed out." We take more frequent, short trips, so I don't feel the need to do or see everything. If we don't get to it, there's always next time.

We spent 2 weeks there this past christmas and loved every minute and I could have spent more time...

But Geoff discribing it the way you did one could ask why every go back you have already done it all.

We do the parks many many times during our trips...we go to Epcot and MGM more then MK....So, just "doing" a park isn't how I look at our trips...

I, too, have always wondered how anyone could stay at WDW for two weeks. I love Disney, but there is no way I could stay that long. We'd be bored. I prefer short trips. We usually go for four nights. We fly from Michigan, so it's not like we are in the neighborhood. It's just what we're used to. My husband would not want to stay that long. The longest we've stayed is four nights at BC and three nights at Hard Rock Hotel at Universal.

I understand if you are coming from abroad, you have to make it worth the expense.

Just my two cents, of course.

We go to WDW for 11-12 days at a time and even do that twice a year. Even that isn't enough! I could never consider doing MK in one day. Heck, we go to MK at least on 5 different days on a trip. We ride favorite rides at least 3 times a trip! On a average 10 day trip we go to Epcot twice, MGM once, AK once if that, and MK at least 5 times. We might throw in a day at TL but that is it. We also only do parks for a half day at a time at most. The rest of the day is spent relaxing poolside at our favorite resort, the Polynesian.

I wish I could get my DH to take two weeks off work at a time! I don't know that we'd go to WDW for two weeks though, but I wouldn't mind 10 days.......will have to make do with 7 this time around tho, and I'm thankful we get to go at all.
