How can you clean the keyboard on a lap top?

My space bar keeps sticking and it was driving me crazy earlier when I was trying to type something..

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and it doesn't look like I can take the top off to get to just the keyboard..

i have a dell inspiron 1525 and i can pop individual buttons off, and clean under them. canned air would probably work too.

Oooo.. That sounds kind of scary! I can't afford to buy a new lap top, so I don't want to chance breaking anything.. No canned air here at the lake - guess I'll have to deal with it until I get back to my DD's.. I'm such a chicken..

I have replaced the keyboard of my Dell E1525 because several important keys just kept getting stuck and it was driving me nuts. It was really easy too! The replacement keyboard came with a little sheet of diagram that shows you which screws to take out from the bottom. Then you disconnect the old keyboard, take it out, put the new one in, reconnect the wire strip, and put the screws back in. Took like 3 minutes and I'm no tech whiz.

You can buy replacement keyboards online directly from Dell.

As to cleaning the keyboard, if you can see/feel the sticky spot, here's a technique that usually works for me. Take a small piece of wire and give it a tight loop (paper clip works, hairpin, too), then put the loop to the back of a cleaning wipe and pull it fairly tight. See if you can run the fabric-covered loop around the edge underneath the key; that might take care of the problem for you. If you don't have pre-treated wipes, rubbing alcohol would be the moistener of choice, but you only want damp, not sopping wet.

I bought it from Dell website. Just enter your computer's service tag and look for the "parts and upgrades" link. The keyboard was refurbished, but I can't see any signs of use and works just fine.

I had a friend of mine blow the dickens out of the keyboard with canned air. Mine had a lot of cat hair and even pieces of KITTY LITTER in there....

Do you have a vacuum up at the lake? If so try that skinny attachment and see if that will suck some of he crap out.
