We are staying in a 1 bedroom villa at okw with a jacuzzi tub and I would personally like to clean it before it is used. I can't find the thread on peoples suggestions on what to bring (we are flying). Thank you!

Any bathtub cleaner should do. It is probably a fiberglass tub. Scrubbing bubbles, and bath and shower spray.

To properly clean and sanitize. I would fill tub up with water and bleach, circulate and drain. Refill tub with plain water, circulate and dump. This will ensure all bleach is out of jets, etc. 3rd time fill up and enjoy. Bleach will be a quick kill on bacteria. Enjoy

One of the easiest ways I've read is to use the dishwasher detergent they provide. Fill tub with hot water, pour in detergent, run jets, empty, repeate with water only. It's the way us DVC'ers clean them prior to using.

That's what we do too :)

I use dishwasher detergent. I do the same thing with my home jacuzzi.

I always bring a clorox scrub pad with the plastic handle. You attach it and wet it, then you can use it, and you do not have to travel with a liquid. I use this for cleaning any tub. I would recommend following the other's instructions to be sure the vents are clean on the jacuzzi tub.

I've never used the jacuzzi tubs when staying in hotels because I've never known how to clean them.

How much bleach do you use? A cup? A gallon?

And what about the dishwasher detergent? I don't want to end up with suds all over the bathroom! ;)

Bleach?? How do you pack that if you are flying?:confused3 I am always afraid to use the hotel jacuzzi and we have one in the BWI garden suite. I would love to clean it myself!!

What a great thread! I am also in the BWI GS and am looking forward to using the jacuzzi. Elitravlor: what I thought I'd do is have the bleach and other cleaning supplies delivered along with some water and a few other things that I'm ordering from gardengrocer.com. I don't think I'd risk flying with bleach, can you imagine if it opened during the flight :headache: ?

Last year we stayed at a very nice hotel in San Francisco, the suite had a very deep jacuzzi tub. We filled it up and there were brown bubbles floating everywhere  . Drained and repeated, still brown bubbles. We ended up just not using it. Thanks for the tips!

When we were there in 2005 we asked housekeeper for bleach, they brought us about 2 cups, I just gave her a nice tip.

I agree with using dishwasher detergent - that's how I was told to clean mine at home. Buy some of those electrosol tablets, and throw a few in your suitcase - no worries about packing any liquids or having to get cleaner once you're there.

I think the idea of having housekeeping bring you some bleach makes the most sense. Nothing to buy, nothing to pack...what could be easier? And if you want to scrub it, there are a lot of travel-type products out that would pack easily and not leak. With bleach, you know that you will be killing any germs.

the idea of asking mousekeeping is great....if that doesn't work (they won't bring us any) then how much dish detergent should I put in it so we don't have a HUGE bubble mess to clean up?

A tablespoon of beach will bring the chlorination up to the same level as a pool or hot tub. It'll kill any germs and you can even bath in it without needing to do the fill drain rinse thing.

Great ideas! I have the tablet dishwasher detergent so I can put a couple in my suitcase. I still think I might ask for bleach--sounds germ free to me. I can't believe I didn't hear this before. We have a jacuzzi at home but we never use it because we have a big spa by the pool. It is great under the stars or in the snow. Plus filling our huge jacuzzi takes some water!! I am going to try the cleaning at home! DH is going to love this---more hints from the Disboards!!!:thumbsup2

Dis Ohana--What are you having delivered? I figured with the DDP and the lounge for Club level, I am not going to bother with a delivery. Plus, I heard there is a Hess station within walking distance from the BWI for extras.

A couple of tablespoons--like the amount you'd put in the cup of your dishwasher. DW detergent is lows suds, no worries about that.

They have the powdered Cascade dishwashing detergent in the kitchen. I filled the tub to the minimum jet line, put a generous amount of Cascade in, and ran it for a few minutes. Then I emptied, refilled to minimum jet line, added bleach, and ran again. Then I did it a third time with clear water. I didn't see anything funky coming out of the jets, but I felt a lot better about using the tub.

Dishwasher detergent not Dish Detergent.

Dishwasher Detergent has bleach in it and doen't make bubbles like Dish Detergent would.

I work in a Beauty Salon and the Nail Techs use bleach in the pedicure foot soak tub to clean the jets between use. Just make sure to rinse by running clear water again after the bleach and before refilling to use.

We're CL too, but only on the DDP for the BWI part of our trip. We drink a lot of water all day, and I heard that CL doesn't have bottled water to take into the park or back to your room. I don't drink tap water on vacation, it's weird..but no matter where we go the water tastes funky to me. I was also going to get some disinfecting wipes and lysol, and now dishwashing detergent! I was also going to get some energy drinks for DH.
What is the Hess Station?
Don't forget to report back when you get home from your trip! I know you're heading out soon. Have a great time :goodvibes .
