I bought a package of imitation crab meat-it looked so yummy! Now I haven't got a clue what to do with it! I don't really want to do a dip, any ideas on how to use it in a salad or something on the bbq??
Thanks

You could just tear it into bite size pieces and add it to a mixed green salad.

I used to use it with pasta. I would make a sauce with white wine, chicken broth, butter and lemon and add the crab. You can add capers, onion brocolli for more body. Add whatever spices you like -- such as oregano, basil etc. Put that over pasta.

We like this stuff! We eat it plain - dipping it into cocktail sauce - with a green salad & either rice pilaf or baked potatoes.

I've also added it to an alfredo-type sauce for pasta.

Recently, I've been using it in a stir-fry. This is currently our favorite! Broccoli, red & green bell peppers, whole green beans, snow peas, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots - sometimes I'll throw in a small bag of salad shrimp, if I have them. I just put a little oil in the wok, throw in a bit of minced garlic for a minute or so, then add the veggies by how long they take to cook. When everything is done, I add a bottle of "Rice Road - Ginger & Garlic". Yummy!

My new favorite pasta salad is the mayo/miracle whip, crab salad and a package of dry vegetable dip.

I'm from St. Louis originally and crab rangoon is big there (at Chinese restaurants). You take the canned crab meat, mix it with 8 oz package of cream cheese, some worstecershire sauce and garlic & onion salt, I believe, for seasoning and then spoon that into wonton wraps, fold like a wonton and then fry. YUMMY!

Disfamily - That's funny! I woke up this morning and thought about crab rangoon & realized I didn't post that recipe suggestion! You beat me to it. ;) Mine calls for 1/2 tsp A-1 Sauce & 1/4 tsp garlic powder to 8 oz of cream cheese & crab. I don't deep fry then, though. I either pan fry - or if I'm espcially virtuous I just spray with olive oil & bake. (I forget how long, though.)

I had copied this one because I love Chi-Chi's Seafood Chimis, but I haven't tried it yet . . ..

Seafood Chimichangas with Cheese Sauce
Copycat for Chi-Chi’s Chimichanga Cancun

Serves 6
1 pkg. flour tortillas, 6 or 8 inch
1 16 oz. package crabs, flakes
1 cup cottage cheese
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1 egg
1 Tbsp. dried parsley flakes
1/4 tsp. onion powder

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix all ingredients except tortillas. Warm tortillas until pliable ( about 10 second in microwave ). Wet one side of tortilla and place wet side down. Spoon on filling ingredients. Roll to hold in filling. Spray baking dish with non-stick coating. Lay chimichangas seam side down on baking dish. Bake 25 minutes. Serve with cheese sauce. Cheese Sauce 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine 4 Tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 dashes pepper 2 cups milk (I use evaporated skim milk for this) 8 oz. grated montery jack cheese 1 Tbsp. lemon juice In a small sucepan melt butter or margarine. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat untill thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 1 to 2 minutes more. Remove from heat. Add cheese, stir until melted. Just before serving, add lemon juice and stir until smooth.

I've actually used the imitation stuff to make "crab" cakes (not salad or bbq, sorry)! I make mini ones for large parties sometimes & the real stuff gets too expensive! I don't have a good recipe but I do chop it all up prettty well beforehand. It doesn't break apart as well as real crab.

I tell everyone it's the imitation stuff & still get lots of compliments! :D

i use it to make shrimp and crabmeat eggs - it's a seafood take on deviled eggs using shrimp, crabmeat, and dry ranch dressing - it usually makes more than the eggs can hold so i make a dip out of it also - the recipe is on the family fun website -
