Some of you may have experienced this. My DH had a ball on our trip this Aug/Sept. We always plan our summer vacation before the end of the year so negotiations have started. Last year, hands down, a Disney year. This year, I want to make it atleast a partial Disneyworld year. By show of hands (family of four) I was out voted :sad1: (mom's should have double vote power). DH wants Universal and some Tampa time, maybe with busch gardens and beach. I can't see going to Orlando and not peeking in on my Disney friends. No castle?? No Yeti??? No Soarin??? Oh my. We have talked about land and sea cruise as an option but kids are not interested in a cruise and we talked about a short Disneyland trip in May before school ends but in NJ, testing is in May??? Any suggestions??? I think I'll need a Disney fix before 2009!!! HELP.

If you are going to Universal, why don't you (alone) spend the day at WDW while your family is at Universal. I know it might not be ideal, but it might be better than dragging the family there if they don't want to go.

I can't believe your sons don't want to go to WDW. I am glad that my 13 and 10 year old have never really heard of Universal, so WDW usually wins.

Although they may not be interested in a cruise, they also might not know what to expect. Sometimes they have to experience something before they get a vote. Just an idea.

Could you take two vacations? When Disney has a great deal or code come out could you take a quick trip then?

Good luck! Even with a trip in December and one in June I am still wondering when I can get back between the two.

They want to go but my husband presented it like...do you want to go back to WDW AGAIN where we just came from and we're going back the year after OR do you want to ......New place, cool roller coasters, etc, etc,. They have never been to universal so they voted for Universal. I think a Disney cruise would be good because we could do universal a couple of days if we do land and sea and still get a few disney days in and it would be enough of a change for DH who is not interested in the same vacation twice.

If you want to see if you can get them interested in a Disney Cruise, I have seen a program on the Travel Channel called "Disney Cruise Line" which is supposed to be shown again on November 15 at 5:00 p.m. It gives a great preview of the cruise amenities for both children and adults. Looks as though the kids have a lot of fun on board!! It's at least worth a try--Good Luck!!:thumbsup2

I agree, I was not very interested in a Disney cruise UNTIL I saw this program on the travel channel.

to the OP... how tall is your 6yo? we took ds to universal at 7yo and he was not able to ride the hulk and a few others due to height... that may be a bargaining chip for one more year of disney before universal! ;)

good luck... i usually use the free dining plan to lure dh into going to wdw again!

I

I side with your DH...there's a lot more to see and do in FL than just going to "the Rat"...

If you're that addicted, while the rest of your family is at US...you can go to WDW.

As much as we love Disney and go every year sometimes twice a year we have decided to go to Universal/Portofino Bay Hotel in 2009. We all need a change of pace once in a while. Our DS who is 11 has been to Disney every year since he was born and he is also up for a change. Although I do agree that mom's should have double vote power:thumbsup2 I also feel that maybe you might want to think about splitting your next vacation between the two places. We did that in 2004. We stayed at the GF for 7 days and then Portofino for 5 days. It was a nice vacation. Good luck.

Thank you so much for this. I will make sure we are all at home, front and center for this one.

He will be 7 this month and he is tall for his age. He was able to ride RR for the first time this year. I'll check height requirements though because you are right, it won't be as fun if he can't ride the big rollercoasters. We've used the free dining twice and it could work for us consideirng when we plan to go.

You, my friend, have a grea idea!!! I was looking at the Portofino and I love the way they have the suites set up. I think that splitting the vacation may be the answer. I like the two resort idea and we could do three days at Disney (especially if there is free dining) after a cruise and then a few days at a Universal hotel. There are some really good deals out now.

To the person who posted that there are a lot more things to do in Florida, I realize this and am even open to these things, I just want to include my Disney fix. It's almost like going to your home town for your class reunion and not visiting your close family. (That's how I see it anyway). I don't think I want another 10 day Disney only like we did this year but a little Disney always does us good :cloud9: .

Thanks everyone for the good advice. :flower3:

Use reverse psychology. Say things like we'll probably never go back to Disney, We didn't really have that much fun, There's not really that much to do at Disney, get him to argure YOUR point!
:thumbsup2

Not sure if you have stayed at the Portofino before but it is a really nice hotel. The pool is great. We stayed in a 1 bedroom villa and our view was of the Piazza which was great. It was really nice and really big. There are just three of us and let me tell you the suite opened with two hugh double doors that led to and even bigger foyer, we had the butlers kitchenette with full refrigerator, a dining room table that would seat 10 people, 2 bathrooms which are big, computer area for the laptop, hugh living room area that had a couch that can seat 6 people comfortably. The main bedroom had a wonderful king size bed with a twin pull out chair. Would I pay that much money again for that suite, no as it was a lot of wasted space but they do have other suites that you can reserve. We are reserving the Portofino Suite in 2009. If you stay at one of the Universal hotels you get the "Front of the Line Access" which is another plus. They also have the boats like Disney does as well. What ever your choice is I am sure it will be a good one. At least you will be able to get your Disney fix.

Ummm...helllloooooo:yay:
It's me!! How are you?????

So glad to see you:surfweb:
So...order the DVD from DCL...oh my gosh.it worked for me!! As soon as DH and DD10 saw it...that was it! Plus, as the other poster mentioned, that episode on the Travel Channel is awesome as well!!
DD10 and I were going to do another quick mother/daughter b day trip for her....(with our double incentive pts)...realized they would be much better used for a cruise! Its only a 3 nighter to get our feet wet....lol

Order that DVD from their site, so much information! YOu could always tie it in with beach time at Cocoa Beach...plus you are getting beach time at CC and you will have ports to visit!
Compromise...3 night Disney Cruise.....and Universal or something else they want to do.....there are deals for cruises...especially through Costco or alot of internet TA's...like the sponsors here:)

Missed you on the boards:sad1: I saw a post from ktink recently, but that was it.

No help here- I love Universal better than I love WDW. No lines with Fotl and the hotels are Much nicer than those at WDW.

Disneybride!!!!!! It's been a journey. I still haven't posted my trip report. I have my pictures downloaded but no time. I'm about to take my praxis (teaching exam to become certified) so I've been studying. I haven't decided if I am going to teach in September or not.......I really want to be at home with the kiddo's BUT....I really love to teach....(More choices).

I am on my way to ordering the video. I really think that we may do the cruise thing. Friends of ours went last christmas and said it was the best cruise they've been on. They said they didn't see much of the children because there was soooo much to do. I'd love to try sea and then land with a little bit of Disney and a little bit of Universal. I don't know if that's possible. We could fly down for Universal, followed by Land and then sea which would be great because we could end with the beach time....Oh my, just sooo many decisions. Whatever we decide, I know that I want AKL or AKV this time. (DS wants GF if you can believe that or Poly). He saw the GF and said that looks cool on an island all by itself....:scared1: Figures he'd pick that one. It's NOT HIS TURN THIS TIME :lmao: . Anyway, It's good to hear from you. You have soooo many trips planned!!!!! You have to let me know how you like both the cruise and AKV...don't hold back either. I want the good and the bad. I did hear from Ktink. She's planning a trip to WDW :yay: I saw her posting on another thread and gave her a shout out. We have to find another home for planning our new trips and invite all of our friends. :grouphug:

I think the land /sea sounds great, now if you could just sway the kids then your all set. I would think a split with Disney/Universal would be a nice compromise. Talk to your DH about it. You don't need more than 3 days at Universal and 4 for Disney. You could even do Universal for 2 days 3 Disney days and then 2 at the beach :confused3 . Work out a compromise because us mom's really need our Disney fix :) .

Can you fit Universal/IA in 2 days? My DH and I took a "just us" for our anniversary in 2006 and one day was for Universal/Islands of Adventure. We had a combo ticket and did a little at each park and then enjoyed a wonderful concert that night at Universal. It was a bit chaotic but we managed to do quite a bit. I remember saying that I'd like to spend a day at each park but I'd like to also spend some time at the resort since it will be a first for the kids. Since we also did a bit of Disney on that trip including a pre-season baseball game at WDWSports, I can't quite remember everything. Do you think 4 days at US/IA is too much? Maybe three days. You guys are really helping me.

I'm going to try the "Oh we didn't have much fun" approach suggested by Cara. He likes to think it's his idea anyway. ;)

you may want to point out that the Harry Potter area will not be open until 2009, so during that period there may be less attraction available in IOA than usual. Maybe you can point this out, Go to Disney/Tampa in 2008 and Universal/(something else if not Disney or cruise) in 2009.

 perhaps you can swing the kids vote with the HP info also.

Excellent Point!

So, stepdisney.....Dec is just a SOLO trip:scared1: ...just shopping for 2 days and checking out SSR..a dinner w/Dis Friends at Le Cellier. I have a studio....as Lumiere says...."Be My guest..Be My guest"..(ok, its "our"...)
Its a THurs to a Sat....13-15th....
We are at BWV the night before the cruise and AKV the day we come back...to check it out...we did get a 1bdr so I could wash the clothes before we go home....:lmao: well. Dh fell for it!
And June is my DS14's 8th grade grad gift, he gets to take a buddy and we're taking my mom, and OKW has the biggest 2 bdrs.
Only because we got those double incentive pts, otherwise DH probably wouldnt of said ok to DVC!
So, thats it in a nut shell......
Serious abt the SSR thing!

And I really think you are getting great ideas:thumbsup2 to make him say YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
