I can't decide on which hotel I want to stay at. I want to do a split stay to get the best of both but DH is opposed to the idea. How can I change his mind?

My DH is also dead set against doing split stays so I have to sub and see what ideas people come up with

By the way good luck

My poor family gets zero say in the vacation. This stay I planned 4 hotesl!!! In 10 days...I just hand out the itinerary and they roll with it.! We really like trying new places and honestly to me it is awesome split stay. At the end of one 3 night stay, I take all the dirty clothes and souvineers and mail them home to myself. So by the end of the trip our luggage load is quite small, no dirty clothes or souvineers to contend with etc. For eample this vacation, DD12 really wanted to try Poly but DH loves his YC CL. So I compromised and did 2 nigthts for DD at Poly and that way if it isn't our cup of tea we have BC CL to look forward to (couldn't get yacht garden) which is a resort area we know well. Personally I don't like taking a 7 day risk at a new hotel. Split stays allow you to experience a sample.

He's already asked me how he can convince you to stay put in one hotel because he doesn't want to pack up and move after a few days. ;)

If you do a split stay and are on a package, you have to purchase tickets for each part of your trip. And the dining plan for each part of your trip (and the plan expires on the day you check out each time). So if you want the package, it winds up costing you more because of the extra tickets starting on day one each time.

No advice for you. We HAD to do a split stay when we were there over Christmas and both of us thought it to be a hassle. I guess I agree with your DH about not wanting to pack up and move in the middle of a vaca:confused3

Sjs- hopefully someone can give us some good advice!
Scottmel- wow, I'm totally jealous! I wish I had that kind of clout.
Deb- we aren't doing a package. I can't bring myself to spend twice as much on beach club, but I'd still like to stay a few nights, so I suppose the only way to convince me to do one hotel would be to tell me not to worry about the extra money. I'm kind of frugile.

I want so badly to stay at all the monorail resorts, I mentioned to DH about staying at each one for 2 nights and he looked at me like I had grown a second head and then said no way. This was when we were booked at CR TPV for our current trip. We ended up switching to BWI when the 30% discounts came out CR was only 5%, but even back when we use to do longer trips of 9+ days it was always at one resort. DH like to get there and settle in. I guess I really do like settling in also but if I could stay at a few more resorts I would deal with it.

I personally only like to do split stays if it's a 10 night vaca or more. That said we are doing 2 nights BWV and 5 nights BCV next month but only because BCV wasn't available for all 7 nights.
Have you thought about renting points for a studio at BCvillas? We've rented points and it's allowed us to experience BC and AKL without paying the high price.

It's either a split stay or an extra vacation to go back to a different resort, lol...that would convince my DH :goodvibes

Just kidding (kinda :upsidedow)

actually, my soap opera buddy, this is not true. we have done split stays many times, and we buy enough park tickets on the package for the first leg of the trip... then, for the 2nd leg, we have a room only reservation.

example: we did a 5 night stay at POFQ, with the dining plan and 7 day park tickets. then a 5 night (room only) at POR. the dining credits continued until midnight of our first night at POR. so we ate at Boatwrights our first night at POR. and we purchased a CS meal at the food court "to go" and put it in our fridge in our room for the next ight. (they have microwaves at the food courts.

and our tickets were still good throughout our stay. we just had to keep our KTTW cards, and keep them sep. from our new room keyss (with the credit card charge priviledge.)

actually you can have the tickets transferred to the new key, but we don't like to do that.. once they messed it up.

also, another hint. we never do a park on transfer day. we enjoy the next resorts pool, and use our "carry over" TS credit.

actually, one of the reasons we started doing split stays was because we got a taste (pun intended;)) of the dining plan with free dining. but we didn't want to purchase it for the whole trip, only part of it. and they don't let you do that. hence, the split stay. (you can also use snack credits to buy some snacks to save for the 2nd leg of the trip)

Well do tell him its so easy to move since they will move your luggage for you..What we did last time since we wanted to try AKL was stay there for one night without park tickets and just enjoyed the resort. THen moved to our next resort with our package.
This time we have a package with dining for 5 nights (7 dAY TICKETS) and then will switch to a room only at another resort for 2 nights. Our tickets will still cover us and we will just pay out of pocket for a few meals.

Same here! We had to do one since our first choice (Contemporary) was only available for the first half. It's such a waste to unpack and repack over and over - and the move itself was awful and had us wasting hours out of a precious Disney day because of an issue with our tickets that couldn't be resolved right away (and we were assured they would be fine).

DH and I were talking the other day about what a relief it will be to go on this vacation and simply unpack and relax!

But if they want to do a package for both stays, then they have to buy tickets for each stay.

You're right if you don't get the package for the second (and third) leg of the trip.

true.. one of the reasons we started doing split stays was because we didn't want the dining package for the whole trip.. too expensive and too much food. we would stratch it over to the 2nd stay.

another reason was, like others, we wanted to try deluxe resorts, but couldn't afford them for the whole trip.

there are many people who do not get the dining plan.

I did a "split stay" the first three years, with the land/sea package.

You are not completely unpacking twice. What I did on the land/sea package is brought a large plastic bag for my dirty clothes. I unpacked what I needed for the first four days and put it in the hamper as necessary. On the night before my transfer, I put all the remaining clean clothes from my luggage on the bed, folded and placed the dirty clothes on the bottom and then placed the plastic bag (as a placeholder) and then placed the clean clothes on top.

When you get to the next place, you are only unpacking what you haven't worn. Place a set of clothes in your carry-on and take it with you to the next place, so in case you want to hang out at the resort all day or do something other than go straight to the parks, you will have clothes/bathing suits with you until your luggage arrives around 4:00 pm, when they begin doing transfers.

It allows you to stay a few days at a mod/value and then upgrade to a deluxe for a few days.

You don't have to split the tickets in two; you already have tickets from your first stay to carry over. Do a room only (always stay at the deluxe last, so it is a treat) and drop the dining plan. Eat at your leisure for the last few days.
