So I am just wondering how busy is it normally on a random weekday/weekend? Looking at stopping by next January but not sure if I should plan on sticking my head in or actually staying for a snack/drink.

What about around Fireworks time? Crazy busy or not really?

If we want a seat by the window for fireworks we get there about an hour before. Sometimes we get a seat with a view and sometimes not. I've never been there when it isn't crowded. However, we don't go when it first opens, so I have no idea how it is then.

TOTWL is two parts: the lounge inside, and the observation deck outside. During any random week day, the entire facility is usually not crowded. However, if you want to have a seat inside (for example, to order the giant piece of chocolate cake), you'll need to get there 90 minutes before the fireworks, or 30 minutes after the fireworks to get a table. For my wife and I, it's been hit or miss arriving 60 minutes before the fireworks to get a table. If you're not ordering food, and are ok with standing or going out onto the observation deck (which has benches), you can arrive just before the fireworks.

We were at the Totwl almost 2 weeks ago and it was busy but not crazy. The seats around the window were gone around 1 hour before the fireworks started. The wind 1 evening was so bad that nobody went outside to watch so it was very paced inside. The outside space was pretty empty (even with nice weather) on a different evening. The view from the top is pretty nice (Check out some pictures).

This describes our experience.

This is how busy it was for the 30 December New Years fireworks showing, early showing. I expected it to be busier. Although of course, on that date only BLT guests can go up. I would not worry too much about a window seat. I have found no reason to go up an hour before personally.
