How busy is Jan 4th, 5th and 6th?

Considering a quick trip with my college age daughter. Wondering if most schools are back by them or it is still going to be swamped with the holiday travel.

Many schools (at least the ones in Arizona) are off the first week in January for 2023 due to when the holidays fall this year. So I expect it to be crowded with folks (like probably me) trying to get a trip in with the holiday decorations still up. I hoping it will at least be less crazy than the week between Christmas and New Year's.

It will be really packed. 1st week of January is still super "red" in capacity.
People will still be around from the Rose Parade/Rose Bowl. Especially if a midwest team hasn't been to a Rose Bowl in awhile.
On top of this, the College Football Playoffs will be at Sofi this year on January 9th. So that's going to add to the visitor count.

It's always very crowded, as mentioned. I'd avoid it if at all possible. All the passholders who were blocked out over the holiday come en masse for one last go with all the festivities before they go away around the 8th.

I was in the parks Jan 7-9 this year and didn't feel it was that bad. Even with a huge amount of ride breakdowns, ride wait times weren't high given that it was the Christmas season. Web Slingers was often under an hour and Big Thunder Mountain was basically a walk on at the end of the day. But that was before the full return of night shows.

It also depends on what your other options are. If your other choices of when to go were between September and December, I'd say this week in January could actually be good for crowds. But if you could go mid-January, that would have much lighter crowds.

Unfortunately we cannot compare this year with next year for these dates, as many schools had already started by then. Because of the calendar, this year many schools resumed Jan 3rd, whereas next year they resume on January 9th.

But there are reservations, so hopefully that helps prevent everyone from going on the same days compared to before reservations were around, but definitely expect full crowds.

Also last January they were actually restricting capacity. From what I’ve seen in the parks lately and the reservation availability they have basically opened up the floodgates.

Why? Our district (in OC) holiday break will be Dec 19-Jan 2 with a return on Tuesday the 3rd.

Not totally sure on the why, but our district is going all the way up until Dec 23 and then taking the first week of January off. It is the first time we haven't gone back right after New Year's that I can remember.
