Will a family of 5, Two Adults, an 8 year old, a 5 year old and a 20 month old fit in a Studio at SS? Will Disney allow this? I figure the 8 & 5 year old can sleep on the fold out couch and we bring a portable crib for the 20 month old. Is that do-able or reasonable?

I would think that five people would be quite cramped in any studio. Your sleeping arrangements may work out but when you add in luggage, bags, etc I know I would not feel comfortable.

Studios (and 1BR villas ) at all DVC resorts will accommodate four plus a child under age three. You'll be fine. There is a pack-n-play crib provided in every room. In a SSR studio you'll have a queen bed and a sleep sofa- in addtion to the pack-n-play.

Enjoy!

The occupancy limit of a studio is 4 plus one under 3, so you'll be able to fit by Disney's rules. Personally, the studios at most of the DVC resorts (haven't seen OKW) are SMALL! They are on average 30 sq ft smaller than their deluxe counterparts, with the exception of WL. We had two adults one 5YO and a 2YO (in a pack and play) and it was VERY TIGHT! So tight, that we immediately added on more points, since I NEVER wanted to stay in one again.

Is the size comparable to a room at the Carribean Beach Resort? We made that work one year with four of us and I have never been to a DVC resort so I have no way of comparing the two. It sounds like it's reasonable since the alternative is no vacation at all until like next summer and man do I really need one now!

The rooms at CBR are 340 sq ft and the studios are between 350 sq ft and 360 sq ft depending on resort and non-dedicated vs dedicated. The rooms feel slightly smaller though, since there is a lot of wasted sq ft in the entrance area, that doesn't exist at CBR. If you feel that a room at CBR would work, you'll probably find a studio will fit your needs.

We stayed in a studio this past summer. My wife and I and two boys 7 and 11. A crib would be fine. How much time do you plan on being in the room anyway. Move a table or so and life will be good. Have fun. Save the points. You do not need a one bedroom unless the baby needs a hot tub. SMILE

I know what jel0511 means about it feeling smaller, esp at SSR where the furniture is really BIG (beautiful but big). Of course, for size and comfort, it's hard to beat the OKW studios, which are by far the biggest. An added plus is the two queen beds, tho that does make floor space tighter with strollers and pack-n-play.

Moderate resort rooms are listed at around 314 sq. ft. All DVC stuidios are considerably larger- HH is 455, OKW is 390, VB is 375 and the others (BWV, VWL, BCV and SSR) are between 355-360.

All OKW studios have 2 queen beds (and the pack-n-play) and all other DVC studios will have a queen bed and queen sleep sofa (a very few have a double sofa).

In addition, all DVC studios will have a fridge and microwave.

Enjoy!

I'm sorry to tell you Doc, but most of the moderates are 314 sq ft, with the exception of CBR. Their rooms are slightly larger and 340 sq ft. From Deb Wills allearsnet.com:
All rooms open onto an exterior corridor, and are roughly the same layout and size (340 sq. ft., slightly larger than rooms at the other moderate resorts).

I guess it all depends on what source we want to believe then. From Birnbaum's - The Official Guide the description of Caribbean Beach Resort states: Rooms: Rooms are located in each island village. A typical 300-square foot room has two double beds and can sleep up to four. The rooms are a bit smaller than the standard rooms at the other Disney hotels, ...

From the DIS description of CBR it's listed at 315 square feet.

Regardless which source is more correct, all DVC studios are larger than any moderate (including CBR) and some are even more than 100 square feet larger.

Thank you all for the responses. Sounds like we'll be fine for this one trip with it being such short notice. I look forward to day when we can reserve our 1st Home resort 2 bedroom at OKW using our own points. Thanks again.

Good grief!!!! The 2 BR at OKW is so big that you'll lose the kids. Now THAT is luxury.

LOL...that sounds like a bonus feature ;) ...we'll be in a 2BR for the first time at OKW in May.

We stayed in a studio this summer with me, dh, dd8 and ds5 the kids had no problem sharing the pullout sofabed. It was very comfortable, one night when my daughter and I were getting in from Downtown Disney later my husband fell asleep on the pull out with my son and he said it was very comfortable. There is a large entrance way which is where I would put the pack n play if I had the need for one.

Just got back from a Studio at SSR!

There is plenty of room!

It was great!

Enjoy your stay! We Sure Did!

did they upgrade the sofa beds???

I have sleep on the sleeper sofa in BWV, BCV and VWL - it was a double not a queen.

Now the Marriott has a queen sleeper sofa in their studios and a king bed.

Can't really answer your question but from what DD said, it would be comfortable to sleep on! From comparing their size to the one I have at home, I would say it was a double size. It reminded me of one of those "Flip" type beds. The mattress looked like it was attached to the frame.
