How bad is WDW in August?

DH and I have only been to WDW in May. Towards the end of the month the temps did get into the 90's and it was humid. The parks were also more crowded at the end also. We only had 2 days of rain between the combined 4 weeks we have been there. So how bad is August really? Alot of rain? Large crowds? We are starting to plan our next trip (not until 2009 but I am an obsessive planner). We do love May but our children will be in school. I don't want to take them out of school because then we are limited to a week. If we go during summer vacation we can take up to 2 weeks. So please tell me everything I need to know about August.

It IS very humid in August, probably the most humid time of the year. But, we like going the end of August if we can swing a trip then. It is not busy as schools begin in many areas of the country by this time. Just be aware the parks tend to close earlier during this time since it begins and off-peak season into September AND not to forget, it is also begins peak hurricane season.

It is definitely rainier this time than it is in late May/early June, but the sun is not as strong in Aug. as it is in June. I'm not saying the sun isn't hot as the FL sun is very hot, but it tends to be cloudier/more overcast in August (at least later in the month). But, you can cut the humidity with a knife.

If you can deal with late May/early June you can definitely deal with August and it's less crowded. Just depends on what you're comfortable with. Just bring ponchos and have back up plans as the afternoon storms are more frequent and can be longer (and begin earlier) than other months.

We met friends from Boston in WDW last year in late August and all's I remember is that they wanted to do any attraction or ride that had A/C...we're used to the humidity so it didn't matter to us. :teeth: I do also remember lots of rain but it was off and on.

Hot, hot, so hot: Oh my God, is it hot!!!

And I have never felt humidity like they have in Orlando. It is almost like you are in a sauna. We went back to room and showered. Before we even got in the car I was wondering why I'd bothered.

So flippin hot and humid.

I'd take a cooler week than 2 in August.

...but that's just me!

(It is hot.)

we are expecting it to be very hot and humid. of course we live in dallas and used to living in a sauna. pretty much upper 90s and 100s for the last month here it seems.

we will just be prepared with misting fans, frozen water, frozen washclothes and taking breaks at the hotel, pool or AC rides. don't forget your poncho too for those daily rain storms. :sunny: :rotfl:

i am not expecting huge crowds, but I am expecting some- we are going Aug 18-23rd. I know most southern schools will be back in session, but the north doesn't start til after labor day from what I am hearing.

we vacationed at wdw in august 2002 overlapping labor day & it was so hot in the 100s with muggy rain. we prefer november for our trips now.

It is hotter than h*ll, but it is all relevant. We live in New Jersey and it is hotter than h*ll here, and humid, too. I have NEVER minded the crowds in WDW. Although it is crowded, I have found that WDW manages their crowds much better than our local Six Flags.

As everyone has said before it is HOT, and it does rain every day around 3.
But the crowds are lower :thumbsup2
Because southern schools start, and it's just too hot for some people.
I love going down in august

I can think of one word here: HORRIBLE!!!!!
As much as I love Disney if I had to go back in August, I wouldnt go at all. Thats about as blunt as I can get on that subject.

August is a great time to go. Is it hot? Its hot everywhere in August, might as well be on vacation then!

Of all the times Ive been to FLA during any month, its always been hot. Florida is hot.

Thanks everyone. I am going to talk it over with DH. He says he doesn't mind the heat but I am not so good in it.
