How bad is the pizza at WDW?

LOL, I love Boars Head cold cuts too and it is what I am used to eating. When I went to college at University of Maryland I missed Boars Head so much, along with bagels and pizza! Chinese food too...I never get that on vacation either! Addicted to China New Star on Flatbush Avenue close to Kings Plaza.

I also love pizza from L & B, and also Original on Ralph Ave. Also the local place in my neighborhood a few blocks away. Usually on vacation I stick to steaks, seafood, burgers, fries, etc. No deli, no pizza, no bagels, no Chinese food normally.

Now, I will eat what is probably known as the most disgusting "Mexican" food when I am on vacation! I don't know good Mexican food from a hole in the wall, so much of it tastes good to me. But my friend who is from Southern California cannot stand the "Mexican" food here in NY and she really misses it from back home. For me I can eat at any chain Mexican place like On The Border and really enjoy it! Same concept I guess as my pizza thing.

I will stick with burgers, fries, maybe the fake Mexican food at some of the places like in Epcot, but no pizza or Asian food for me!

you must live right around me=china new star is the best!!

You have 2 different kinds of pizza at the CS at the parks/resorts. One is the round, typical pizza that tastes like the 99 cents stuff they sell in the frozen section at Winn Dixie. One is the flatbread kind of pizza which is actually pretty good (had it at Mara, Roarin' Forks and Captain Cook's).

The pizza at Spoodles boardwalk window was good IMO. Not NY-pizza good, but good enough.

Best pizza we had at Disney was at Wolfgang Puck Express in Downtown Disney.

I agree with this aswell. Wolfgang Puck Express was by far the best pizza we had. In fact the only pizza we enjoyed. I struggle to find any pizza I like in the USA as its very different from here. I hate the thick dohey stuff they serve in WDW. But I really liked the Wolfgang Puck pizza.

It really does make you think - why is it all so dreadful.

After all, pizza isn't really "rocket science." It all comes down to great sauce, dough that isn't pre-made at some assembly line, and real cheese...

The reason that WDW pizza is so consistently below par (or - let's face it - bad) is that it is cheap! They could quite easily have quality sauce shipped in from Chicago (Pastorelli's) or somewhere in New York (sorry NY-ers, not familiar with your local sauces...) However, that costs money and they'll never do that.

Odds are they sell enough of the cheap stuff that they honestly don't care about the taste...

I'm from NY too, and even if I was from some backwoods town where the pizza is awful, I still wouldn't recommend Disney's pizza...i'd rather eat Ellios frozen pizza...or high school cafeteria pizza (remember how bad that used to be?/?) BLECH... Definitely skip the pizza unless it's from a table service restaurant such as Mama Melrose MMMMMMMMMMMMM

Don't go to WDW for the pizza. It's not the best. Get your pizza in NY and enjoy everything else in WDW.

The pizza in Disney World is ok, but it is definetaly not like the pizza in NY. I would say SKIP it if you are looking for that great taste of NY pizza. (Especially if your a pizza snob l.o.l)

The sad thing is that the WDW pizza IS shipped in from Chicago. It is Connie's pizza--you can google them. I used to like the pizza for what it was (frozen) but this year as they have switched to healthy food they switched the buns and pizza crust to multigrain which contains flax, rye, and sunflower seeds. SO now it's the same "quality" as before with little hard lumps in it. Not to mention that for those of us who are nut allergic it is no longer safe due to cross contamination issues with the stupid seeds

I found that hard to believe, but just read the following, from an article about Connie's:

"The company also ships another 25 million frozen pizzas nationwide, to places like Disney World."

However, I've seen specials in the past about how they make WDW pizza in a production line system on property. As such, perhaps only a portion of the WDW pizza is from Connie's??

I also read the following in the Connie's article:

"All our flour, all our sauce, all our cheese -- a lot of that stuff is from California..."

If that sauce isn't from Chicago, then that's a definite strike against that chain, and another reason to embrace your local, unique pizza place! California pizza sauce??

I know those small personal pizzas from Pizza Planet and Pizzafari are NOT frozen. They showed how they made them on the Travel Channel.

We had pizza at POR one night and it was pretty good. Way better than we thought it would be based on what we've heard here.

The pizza at WDW is horrible....
what we do is order by phone from Giordanos. They deliver right to your resort if you are on-site, and they have 2 locations near WDW. One in Lake Buena Vista and one in Kissimmie.

I've never had a less than excellent pizza there.

We used to go to the very first Giordanos when they opened in the early 70s. The original one was about the size of a moderate resort rooms at WDW. We've had it down at LBV, and it is still real good. One of the best Chicago pizzas outside of Chicago. Much better than that stuff from other cities.

Interesting. I've never been a huge Connie's fan. It's okay, but not my fav. Prefer Home Run Inn to Connie's.

My sister lives in Chicago - a trip to Giordanos is a must for us every trip.

However, I will still eat frozen pizzas, so I am definitely not a pizza snob. I stand by my prior statements - run from CS pizza at Disney.

:upsidedow Your right... I saw the same special...

I think the problem is not that they are frozen (because they are not at these two CS)... It is the quality of the products used to make the pizza (as someone else explained earlier)... They do not use high-quality because they want to keep it cheap... Us New Yorkers are willing to pay for a quality product. They are frozen at the resort CS... I saw ours being prepared.

Other than a trip to Giordanos, we usually just go over to Winn Dixie and let the girls pick up a couple frozen ones to cook when they are ready for them.

I think it speaks volumes that many of us would rather purchase frozen pizzas (which are not that great by any pizza standards) than purchase CS pizzas from Disney.

That show is mostly out of date now. At any pizza place on property you can request the ingredients list--they keep this info for allergies. They are all Connie's pizza except places that serve things like flatbread pizza. They do get the components separately and put the sauce onto the crust etc. Even on the buffets like Chef Mickey's and 1900 they used the same Connie's stuff to make bigger pizzas. I kept checking everywhere (including Pizza Planet and Pizzafari) this past trip in hopes that some place didn't use the Connie's that I no longer can eat due to allergies.

Personally I do not like NY style Pizza. DO NOT TOSS THE DOUGH!! It makes it flat and tasteless. Sicilian, Chicago, or Old Forge is the way to go.

That being said, the WDW pizza is ok. It tastes like DiGiorno from the frozen section of the store. It is thick and doughy. The sauce is fairly bland but the cheese is good. The only reason we would go out of the way to get it is because my son loves Pizza Planet.

I think the answer to this is it stinks but I do believe it stinks more for some than others. I think what part of the country your from has a lot to do with your pizza palette.
