How bad is LAX?

Not sure about magical airport experience. But a magical trip to DLR of course, and the airport is part of that trip.

Awww, Hydroguy, I was just giving you a bit of a ribbing. Although it really did make me laugh out loud at the idea. This is what makes the boards so interesting - everyone has their own perspective. And weighing all perspectives is a good thing when you're about to plop down serious dineros for a vacation. It honestly never occurred to me to consider the flight as part of the vacation. More like a necessary evil.

You'd spend more money on an airport, I'd spend more money on a room. So we're even

No, I'd stick w/ LAX. That is too long of a drive for the benefits of avoiding that airport to outweigh the inconvenience.

If LAX were such a h3ll-hole, do you think all of the stars and celebrities would fly in and out of it all the time?

It's because they fly out of Burbank whenever they can.

Having flown out of LAX once, I can't really give an accurate report on it, just that the traffic getting there can be a nightmare and security is a headache compared to the other airports (but it's also the airport that has the most business/tourist people coming through). People who can tend to avoid LAX like the plague and fly out of Burbank (rarely a line...I've encountered a line at security once and never at ticketing/bag drop-off) or Long Beach/John Wayne (never been to Long Beach, but John Wayne was never hectic as a kid in a pre-9/11 world).
