How bad is it in August.....

We will be traveling to N. Carolina from Connceticut this summer for our vacation. I am trying to talk my DH into giong to WDW after our week at the beach. He has always been completely opposed to driving from CT BUT since we will be in NC the drive is only about 9 hours. I think I may ba able to pull it off. I am just wondering how bad the heat and humidity will be? I think if free dining comes out that may seal the deal for my DH!!! I know the ride home will be about 22 hours...but maybe my DH won't think about that!!!

We went last year the last week of August to also take advantage of free dining. I was very nervous and hesitant about the heat--mostly because my DH hates it. I have to say, we didn't find it anything like we expected. It was hot, but the day before we left it was over 90 degrees and humid here in NH and it was never that bad the week we were down there. Had a raging and somewhat long thunderstorm our first night there. We were caught on the Jungle Cruise! And one other storm when we were at Typhoon Lagoon (bad timing for us). But if you're concerned with the heat, expect it but we didn't find it unbearable at all. And crowds were moderate. We usually go April vacation and I found the crowds to be about the same, maybe slightly lighter.

It is super hot in August (well a lot of months in FL really)... but if you strategize, hit the parks early, go back the the hotel for a swim and rest, then head back in the evening, it's totally manageable. You just have to know that it is hot, and not be out endless hours a day in the heat. And take breaks, drink water, etc...

We went 4th of July a few years ago, and of course it was super hot, but it didn't take anything away from the vacation. And lots of good time for swimming!

I went last year in August for my birthday and it was very hot. Being a Georgia boy, I thought I could shrug off the heat and humidity. Wrong. The Florida sun seems to be twice as hot as the Georgia sun. All four parks were also crowded. Still I had a blast.

All the usual advice applies. Hit the parks in the morning, go back to the hotel in the afternoon, return at night. Water, sunglasses, and sunscreen must haves.

As we say in Massachusetts... the triple H.
Hazy... Hot and Humid. But as someone else mentioned.. just strategize... its our 3rd time going... first 2 times.. we pushed 2 kids in strollers..

As others said, HOT and HUMID! Plan to get in early, out for a pool break and back after dinner! And you'll be fine, my daughter had a real problem with the "human aromoas" that wafted in the long lines!!!

I totally agree..

i put deodrant in our backpack when we go to the parks ...and dress very lightly.. i pack all white tanks for the boys when we go.. the ice cream does a number on them.. but at least they are cool..

We went on the last 2 weeks of August and we didnt think it was that bad,except in AK.
It only rained on us twice in 2 weeks and on the last few days of our trip we were walking onto most rides.
We prefered the humitity in Florida to the blazing hot sun we have where we live.

the only thing good about going in august is the parks are open really really late like 2am ( if you are staying at a wdw resort), so you can just walk on the rides that you did not want to wait on line for during the day, but it is really really hot especially coming from conn., you may not be used to the heat so much. we are from ny and we were dying during the day but it was over 95 each day we went at the end of august. so if you can stand the heat take advantage of the free dining plan they do tend to offer and the late park hours. good luck planning!

It was pretty hot - we tried to avoid the early afternoon hours and managed to survive - but oh it was HOT.
