How bad are Mosquitos and fire smoke?

Also, how bad are the mosquitoes at Ft Wilderness? Please be honest, I would rather be prepared. And....my younger son (8) is real allergic to smoke of any kind. Do I need to be worried about that as well?

We go in Nov/Dec and mosquitos aren't bad at all - especially compared to summers here in New England. If we're sitting out at dusk there are usually a few about, but it's hardly even worth going to find the bug spray - and I'm a big wimp when it comes to mosquitos.

Seems campfires are rarely allowed at the Fort these days, with the possible exception of covered fire pits (but even then only when there aren't drought conditions). I've maybe seen 3 fires in 10 weeks we've spent at the Fort over the past 4 years. Again we go in Nov/Dec and usually there is a "no fires" ban when we're there.

Steer clear of the nightly campfire with Chip 'n Dale and you should be fine.

We have stayed in the 1400 loop which is near the campfire sing a long and movie. We couldn't open the windows in the RV due to the smoke smell from the campfire. So I'd avoid that loop because of your child.
We've usually go to the Fort in November so the mosquitoes aren't bad at all.

It's just my opinion, but I think all mosquitoes are bad, I don't like any of them, no matter where they are at.

and onna serious note, remember, it's a campground and the sites are stacked on top of each other for the most part, lotta folk grill out at their sites,,

where there's a fire there's gonna be smoke.

Good point, Frank - I wasn't even thinking about grill smoke... which seems to increase on our site if I'm cooking. ;)

We just got back, the mosquitoes were not bad at our site, but my kids legs were eaten up at the beach during fireworks.

The bites your kids got at the beach were probably from the sand fleas and not mosquitoes. Them sand fleas are nasty little buggers!!

Reminds me that while we didn't run into many mosquitos last November, something DID bite up my feet/ankles pretty good. Wasn't sand fleas, but I think it was from walking the pup out on the 300 dog walk every morning in just my croc sandles.

We stayed in the 1400 Loop for 2 weeks in June 2009 and we never once had smoke issues from the campfire. It just depends on which way the wind blows I guess. Over all, we loved the 1400 loop. I wouldn't cross it off the list because of the campfire!

If my son were allergic to peanuts, I wouldn't take him to the Skippy factory. Just saying.
