How are you spending the "extra" cheap gas is creating?

No extra money here - our health care went up much more than our gas went down, not to mention groceries and utilities all went up as well. And we are so "lucky" to have a new governor who is raising taxes all over the place so no savings for us.
are you in Louisiana lol you sound like me

I'm trying to get our net worth up above a milestone number, so every extra dollar I have goes to that.

I just looked at my YNAB software and our 3 month average auto fuel expense is about $40 less than our 12 month average. It'll get eaten up by something else I'm sure.

actually wish the price of oil would go back up. lower crude is wreaking havoc with the stock market and my investments are down. I prefer for my investments to do well than lower gas prices.

Are you in a buying or draw down phase? If buying... it's nice for them to be down right now. Just as long as they go up later!

I swear I have Murphy's luck, lol when it seems I get ahead of the curve some thing breaks or an unexpected bill pops up.

The weak Chinese economy is more to blame for lowered stocks AND lowered gas. Historically speaking though, the stock market does best with extended periods of cheap oil. Every economic boom in your lifetime took place when oil was cheap.

As for me, we're considering actually taking a vacation this year - we were thinking "no". We go through ~1,650 gallons of gas a year. Compared to gas prices from 2 years ago, that's a $3,300 savings.

No extra savings to put anyplace. I've been paying the same annoying 1.65 per gallon for months and seeing posts from other people paying much less.

I guess where I live the gas stations aren't dropping their prices - at least at the place I get gas from isn't.

I need to reinstall the app I used to use to find cheap gas - although if it has me driving miles out of my way to get it, I'd spend more than I'd save......

I just paid $1.36/gallon. We are down about $0.03 in the past week. Heading to SW FL soon which should cost only about $100 in gas round trip.

I'm loving it! We are spending some, saving some. DH has a long commute to work so goes thru a lot of gas. With the low prices it's so nice to have more money left over every month. I save the majority of it, but it's nice to be able splurge whenever we feel like it.

I was wondering the same thing. Lol
Louisiana? Not so loving this governor. And wish oil would go up some. Eventually it will--it's a nasty cycle.

All it's done for me is lessen my monthly deficit by a bit. :confused3

LOL, same here. It's nice that it costs $20 instead of $30 to fill up my tank. That adds up to $20 a month in savings. Nice, but considering our budget still hasn't absorbed the shock of the $500/month it's costing to add me to DH's health insurance, it's not really a boon for us.

Like someone said-loosening the grocery strings - really have gotten lax and I really need to get back to being better about grocery shopping. Especially now that it won't be long til garden is producing again, bought a side of beef in the fall (from a friends dad who raises cattle as a hobby-he started a few years ago raising them on grass their whole life-his daughter is an RD like me who had been telling him the benefits of grass finished cattle LOL) at a great price. And now that my darn chickens have started laying eggs again after their winter break groceries should go down again. Previously I put the extra not spent on groceries and gas into vacation funds. Need to be diligent about that again as I want to do a family cruise over Christmas 2017 (and hopefully a few days at Universal).

Well, lower gas/diesel prices are causing the load fees to come down too so dh's paycheck has gone down (he drives a truck). DS and his family are facing the very real chance that he will be laid off in the next couple of weeks (works in the oilfield). So basically nothing.

And then when you consider that groceries have done nothing but go up along with utilities--

I think I would rather spend $40 a fill up than "enjoy" all this money we are "saving" by paying $20 instead.

Gas was up to $4.50 in the relatively recent past. $1.65 is a big drop from there. Every tank is at least $20 cheaper than it was two years ago.
