I was able to get CL room by using my spg pts for most of our nights during our upcoming Xmas trip.

I know the CL rooms will not be renovated by the time we get there. How are they?

Thanks:D

They're just as nice as the regular Dolphin rooms...... usually a robe in the closet, and a convertible couch in the room.

However......... there are no balconies in any of the club rooms, and although we'd specified a non-smoking room (DH is allergic), they didn't have any. They tried to do a good job de-smoking the room though, and I added a bit of orange odor neutralizer.

Other than that, the room was great...... the lounge was handy at breakfast, but the rest of the hours were not too flexible with our schedule.

"When is the food offered? Morning (7-10am), Afternoon (only offered at the Swan) and Evening (5-7pm) "

I hope that this helps......

Thanks for the reply.

We were at Swan CL in late May and did not see any afternoon offering. Is this something new?

Actually, it might be something old........ it was a clip from glo's Swan/Dolphin post.

You just might want to call the Dolphin and ask about the snack hours. Also, the lounge didn't stay open all day. It seemed that it was only open during 'offerings' time.

I could be wrong though.......

Lat -

I thought you couldn't request an upgrade using points until 5 days prior to arrival?

Jodi, yes, but you can use 11,000 pts to get a free night at the club level. I learned that today when calling to get a suite using points and they told me that the suites are not available for point reservation. I thought Starwood has no black out dates for any of their rooms.

I would go for a renovated room, over a club level room, but it may depend on how important the food is to you. We do a grocery stop and buy snacks.

I agree with swilphil. I stayed on CL in a standard room which was okay and view was fair. That was fine by us since we were in our room so little of the time. We used the morning CL offerings but were never able to use the 5-7 offerings due to our schedules. I thoroughly enjoyed the CL experience since we had never done it before and, most importantly, we didn't pay for it - we received it as a comp uprade. I prefer to use points for a room with a view and/or balcony - renovated.

I stayed at the Swan this summer and was upgraded to a jr. suite with balcony and was offered CL privleges at $50 a night. I turned CL privleges down b/c for us it meant just for breakfast - we knew we wouldn't use the afternoon offerings). The Swan offerings schedule is the same as the Dolphin - at least that was so in July.

Now you are making me thinking about changing again.

We have rooms reserved with cash at the Swan already and I was hoping that I can get a 2-br suite. However, since the suites are not available, I was told that I can use my pts for the Club Level at Dolphin, CL at Swan is not available.

Now I am thinking about keeping what I had.

Too many choices!!!!

I really enjoyed our Swan stay. Don't get me wrong, I adore the Dolphin, too. However. I would choose the Swan first. With that said, I must clarify - we don't have young children so we don't need to have quick access to Tubbi's and other areas that help when you have young children. Our children are older - so they can go off on their own if they so desire.

In the mornings, one of us went to the Lobby Lounge to bring to the room breakfast pastries and coffee. We like a continental breakfast since it allows us to get going in the morning much quicker.

Here's pix of Jr. Suite @ the Swan with views - room 625 -east wing:

Mouseteacher, thank you so much for the pictures!! We loved our room at Swan CL, even though it does not have a balcony.

Now I think you just convinced me to keep my rooms at Swan and save the points to see if I can just use 1,000 pts for the upgrade 5 days prior. If the CL rooms are not available, we will still have a balcony.

Where do you get your breakfast stuff when staying at Swan? Thanks again.

We had a Dolphin Club room as a free upgrade once ( upgrades seem to be the luck of the draw even for spg members, we have gotten a club room, a balcony, but sometimes no upgrade at all) Our room had an absolutely terrible view of the roof of the convention hall, maybe that's why they "gave" it away. But the breakfast bar was very good. Still, I would never trade in my points just for a good continental breakfast. I personally would rather pay to upgrade for a balcony.

lat~ We went to the Lobby Lounge where you could purchase breakfast pastries, juices, coffee, etc. You could eat there or take it back to the room. Since we had a dining area in the suite, we brought our breakfast back to the room. One morning, while DH slept in a bit, I sat at the little tables in the Lobby Lounge to have my coffee and croissant and read the newspaper. I was the only one there - it was very peaceful and relaxing.

Bimmy~ our comp upgrade to CL room - view was of the conference room roof and the bus stop. We had never stayed CL before, so we were excited about this and didn't want to complain about the view. However, for our stay at the Swan we really wanted a balcony room with a view. We were so lucky to get the balcony and it was a jr. suite! We enjoyed the balcony so much more than the Club room.

Thanks again for your replies. I switched our reservation back to Swan.

Do you think if it is a good deal to use 40,000 pts for 5 nights? They have the 5th night for free so it only takes 40k, rather than 50k, for 5 nights?

Also, do you still have to pay the $10 resort fee if you redeem spg pts for the free night?

Thanks

Are there any good rooms that have a great view that aren't balcony rooms? We have a 2 and 4 yo and it would freak us out to think they could fall over! Right now we have dolphin CL reserved but I think I'd rather have a good view and room service.

lat, If you don't want to redeem 40,000 points for 5 nights at the Swan you can opt for cash and points. With cash and points it is 60.00 and 4000 per night.

Unfortunatly you do have to pay the daily resort fee unless you are Plat SPG.
